Heyy Dell

Hey Delldot,

congrats with getting admin! Anyway, I want to ask you a favor. The webpage SUNY Old Westbury has been vandalized a couple of times. My guess is from students who have personal issues with the campus or organizations in them. If at all possible, could you block this page from edits by new users and non-registered users. Just for a few weeks. I mean until somebody could look over this page and do something constructive with it at least ;-) Thanx a bunch! Mystify85JEC 23:11, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

'Move' Mission accomplished. But now...

Thanks for the advice on moving my page. I got that accomplished, and even deleted a double redirect that I wound up creating along the way. But there one little 'cleanup' I'd like to do. Let's call the first page that I made A1. I moved it to the renamed page, A2.

Now when I go to the new page, A2, there is a bit of tiny text at the very top that says "redirect from A1."

Is that text going to be on A2 permanently? There is really nothing left on A1, so it would be nice to get rid of the text saying that A2 is a redirect.

Does the redirect eventually 'melt away'?

Or is this something I need to call on an admin to do?

Thanks!Ted nw 01:22, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

Moving

I'd love to share the page with you -- it's about software called eXtremeDB. If you type 'extremedb' into the search box, you'll see what I mean. There is that 'Redirected from Extremedb' text at the top. Any idea how to make that go away?

The only thing difference between the title of the moved page, and the title of the original page, is that the new page is ExtremeDB, not Extremedb...Curse these ridiculous technology name formattings.Ted nw 01:56, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

But -- is the empty Extremedb page just always going to be there? It would be good to get rid of it. When using search engine/boxes people generally type all in lower case -- if I wanted info on an iPod, I'd just type "ipod", for example - so they're likely to get to the page with the redirect on it. Am I making sense? I mean, why have this meaningless, empty page that serves no purpose other than redirecting people to the correct page? Thanks.Ted nw 02:24, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

Good points. Thanks.~~

One more edit?

To clarify that i own "The One Media Group" it may make sense to add "which is owned by Wolfington" at the end of the below sentence: It currently reads: "Metanoia Films owns half of the film Bella, and the other half is owned by a media investment company called the One Media group." The new version would read: "Metanoia Films owns half of the film Bella, and the other half is owned by a media investment company called the One Media group, which is owned by Wolfington". Would this be possible to add to clarify the ownership? Thanks for all of your help! SeanSeanwolfington 03:47, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

St Johns Centre

Right

Tell you what, i will "allow" you to delete St Johns Centre article as it if is not worth keeping. I have visited this place every time i go to Perth, it is "very" small, believe me, only a handful of stores, it's just comparable to a mall.

I have tried to save it by using the reference of their website, but it's not interesting enough.

Thank you for the contact. I approve your decision very much. Go ahead, i give you permission.

Thanks again. I had a non-responding window and was trying to compose a report to WP:AIV about the vandal who attacked the page we reverted. It looks like an admin blocked him without my intervention as my system locked up just after my boo-boo with you. Editor Reveiw reply

Thank you for the review! Yeah, I have been waiting a while, and its so good to see when not only someone replies, but they also give a very in-depth explanation on their thoughts. Thank you very much for the advice, I will take it all into consideration when seeking to better myself as an editor, and I thank thee especially for the areas where I lacked civility. I have realised in the past that some problems I may have had with vandals, but I will look towards more civil routes to get around them. One little thing, you said in the editor review that removing warning templates was discouraged, but not against the rules, yet I was warned that my editing privileges could be removed when I removed a warning template on my page (back in the day when I tested on any old page rather then the sandbox). I am a little confused as to the exact rules here, so could you just clear this up for me? Thanks ≈ The Haunted Angel //The Forest Whispers My Name// 17:08, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the review

I took a ten-minute wikibreak-break to check on the review you did and to comment on the Daniel Brandt nonsense. Thanks for the thorough review. Basically I don't intend to be seriously active again until I graduate college in May. I did occasionally vandalize, a long time ago, and I decided not to destroy the evidence. Actually, it's even a little more interesting than that. The first edition of my first article ([1]) contained a silly link on the very last line. It was actually a sneaky (and successful) attempt to Google bomb my university president, as I explained in this blog post. I sometimes think that my near-obsession with deleting articles that should be deleted is a vestige of the carnal temptation to delete articles that should not be deleted.

Oh, and as for the Daniel Brandt nonsense...what a shame. It makes adminship seem like so much politics. YechielMan 05:34, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

Inuktitut

Thank you very much for your advice, thankfully he has not made any edits that are helpful and has used hate speech in all his edit summaries so I just refereneced his contribs. You can go on there and help, it doesnt matter if you cant speak inuktitut im the only native user and all the conversations on talk pages are done in English, i also speak spanish and we have danish, german, and italian spekaers too. Everyone can speak english though and his edits are in english. Thats my biggest beef with him, im trying to help rpeserve my mom's family's language and this guy comes in here doesnt sign up and only starts to mess with article's images and threaten me. and hes removing text captions from certain articles when he switches the pictures which really bugs me bacsue i dont have a keyboard that can write in canadian syllabics, so i literally have to cut and paste for ALL 155 articles that ive written and contributed too into additon of having to transcribe them into roman letters which inuktitut is also written in, in some areas of North West territoris, but in Nunavut, Québec (Nunavik) and Labrador (Nutsinaivut) is written using syyabics. it would be great if you could take a look at the recnt edits over there once in a while and let me know of spam which we get a lot. the only other active user has nominated me for adminship so i can deal with this better in the future, since the only other admin is taking time off and the wp is extremely vulnerable to spam and vandalism, i had to tag many pages just today of all spam. and i cant look at my wp's policies since we havnt developed any yet, all we have is a few templates an interwiki, a commons, a speedy delete, and a stub. most of the interface has been translated but needs work. unfortunatly inuktitut has a very small vocabulary and untill recently there wasnt computer access anywhere where there were many inuktitut speakers. and even tho some of the interface is in inuktitut you can just hover over anything for the english equilvalant and it is also in the same order and format as in english and if u were to open the english version in another window you could simply compare the spacing and location to know where to click. thank you very much for your advice.qrc 21:55, 27 February 2007 (UTC)—Preceding unsigned comment added by Qrc2006 (talkcontribs)

inuktitut

i think the most important thing that is needed right now is box below any text box youre editing that has special charicters simple doesnt work for the inuktitut edition, it would make things a lot easier if you could just click and enter, do you have any idea how that could be fixed? and thank you very very much for your help.

thanks for creating an account i hope you stop by often to check on the progress and help with anything thing you can. it is sad that its in english i guess, but because theres none for me to talk to in inuktitut. im glad for the 3 editors that we have they have been very very helpful and i dont hvae the knowhow nor abilityt to change the interface which they did for me after i suggested the translations. the second thing i just need someone knowledgeable i can ask questions to. theres an issue with the main page which is somehow a template and articles are separated by a slash which seems to be a problem now as the backlogs dont update soon enough an sometimes there are two versions of the same page but it only seems to be an issue on the main page, it might on other articles im not sure. the interwikis are very very helpful, if you could make interwikis between the articles to greenlandic, swedish, norweigian, nyorsk, finnish, russian, english, german, and danish and french as the priority languages that would be great beacuse an inuktitut speaker might most likely speak one of those languages northern sami too and icelandic and faorese and if they see a link to inuktitut they might find out about us. would you have a suggestion for the most important wikipedia tutorial pages to begin or translate? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Qrc2006 (talkcontribs) 00:32, 28 February 2007 (UTC).

Editor Review

Thanks again for the fine review. That obviously took you considerable time. I've left the review open mainly because I am in a position where I could become contentious. I am a professional SEO, and am speaking at SES NY on the topic of Wikipedia. A lot of Wikipedians have a negative view of SEOs (rightly so in many cases). I am trying to diffuse that tension by explaining both sides to each other. How long can I keep this review open, do you think? Jehochman (Talk/Contrib) 22:39, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

Re:Images

Sure thing delldot, glad to help. It's a pretty easy process when you get used to it, it's just time consuming and gets tedious.

An easy one: Image:16-s.jpg is unsourced and there's no copyright tag. Straight forward deletion.

An easy fix: Image:Tasuki.jpg is a scanned playing card cover. There's no possible free image for this article. Remove the notice, and use {{Fair use in}} since there's not an applicable fair use tag.

Things can get trickier if you are researching to find the proper tag, but basically if there is no public domain or fair use tag, it qualifies for deletion. 7 day old orphans are free to delete. If it is sourced, check that the source if valid. If it says "taken by me" it needs to be deleted and the uploader notified to reupload with the {{GFDL-self}} tag by the author. Other tags you can do yourself.

Just remember to see if you've made an image redlink by if the image is included in an article. And ask questions if you have them! Just check the deletion log for people who delete a lot of images that will probably have more legal knowledge than I do.

Happy editing to you! Teke (talk) 06:14, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

Oh, and the timidity will go away and you'll get used to using the buttons like all the other ones you had before. You will get talk page notices that you'd have never received before had you not been and admin, and the other jumble that goes with the misconceptions of what an administrator is and is not. Just remember that you're doing unthankful gruntwork and you'll be on the short end of the stick 90% of the time. OTOH, it's nice when you get an email from someone you have blocked that says "Sorry 'bout that man bro homie" instead of a personal attack :) Keep cool and whittle the end of the mop into a shiv, and you'll be just fine. Feelix Growing

Hi, Delldot - just saw your comments re: the Feelix Growing project on the "Articles for Creation" page. There have been a couple of news reports since that request was made; the BBC did a story, which was also covered by Engadget and Gizmodo. Their press coverage seems to have taken off over the last week or so, I believe the Spanish newspaper el Pais will have an article tomorrow as well.

Full disclosure: the project coordinator is my partner, so I'm not entirely an unbiased source :-)

It wasn't me who suggested the article in the first place, but I'll certainly add some notes to the talk page for anyone who would like to expand the article; I have a few new references that I can add. A question - would it be acceptable for my partner to add anything there (on the talk page, I appreciate that the article itself will almost certainly be out-of-bounds to her)?

Re: ER

First off, I would like to thank you for reviewing me, delldot, and I am sorry for not replying sooner. The page somehow slipped by me on my watchlist. I will agree with you, I was a little abrupt during that conflict now that I look back upon it. Although in hindsight I am not quite sure why, however you are correct; I did not intend to be abrupt. In the future, with edits such as the one in question, and any edit to be perfectly honest, I will wait until I am definitively sure it is vandalism before bringing up that word. While I am not sure if attempting to talk to the editor more would have caused them to cease, I do agree that the t3 should have been prefaced by a t2. That editor did seem to have some sort of motive for including the guidebook information, though I still cannot determine what even in hindsight.

I believe I thought that by going into detail about the resources he or she could have used that they would have stopped and asked why their edits were being reverted, however apparently that didn't work. Even so, I am glad I did try at least, and in the future I shall try to explain in greater detail what the problem is with the edit in question should I encounter another situation such as this. Again, thank you very much for your kind comments, delldot, and I hope you have a most wonderful day. Kyra~(talk) 13:08, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

Congratulations and an update

Congratulations on getting adminship! I just wanted to ask for more advice on my own progress towards RfA, since the advice you gave me before was very helpful. I've chalked up my 3,000th edit today; looking at most recent RfAs, 3,000 should be enough to give me a fighting chance, particularly as I'm pretty familiar with policy and now have a lot of experience with AfDs. However, I want to be sure of success (another failed RfA would be a disaster for me), so I'll probably wait to chalk up another 500 edits or so, and will ask advice from some other experienced editors. Do you think there's anything particular I should be working on in the meantime, in order to give me a better chance? Walton Vivat Regina! 19:46, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

My reply delldot talk 05:28, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for your reply. The low number of WP talkspace edits was worrying me as well; however, luckily, there seem to be a plethora of new policy discussions starting at the moment, so I should have ample opportunity to chalk up more edits in this area. Although I've had positive feedback from the other users I've consulted, I agree that I wouldn't be certain of gaining the 75% necessary to achieve consensus, so I'll wait a couple more weeks and concentrate on WP talkspace discussions (policy, WikiProjects etc.). Thanks again for your help. Walton Vivat Regina! 13:58, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

Again, thanks for your support. Everything that I wrote is attributable. Proofs of history can be found on my web site at www.damngoodwriter.com. Articles, over the years, have been penned about me. I just wanted to make certain that the information written about me is accurate.

Sharon Dahlonega 06:08, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

I object to the deletion of the article I've written because I am a professional writer and everything that is included can be substantiated. The article is not self-serving. It is accurate. I have had articles written about me before throughout my near 30-year career in broadcast and print journalism and there were many inaccuracies.

This is an effort to assure factual accuracy. If you would like for me to delete certain sections of the article to better abide by your standards, I will be more than delighted to do so.

However, I have made history in America and it should be duly noted. Thank you.

In addition to my low number of WP talkspace edits (which is increasing rapidly, so shouldn't be a problem by the time I go for RfA), I also have virtually zero edits to categories, templates or images. Is this likely to hinder me at RfA, or do you think it will be OK if I just explain that if I get adminship, I will be prioritising the areas I know more about? I've spent a lot of time around RfA lately, and have hardly ever seen Oppose per lack of experience with templates, cats and images, but somethng of the sort did come up at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/KyraVixen. Looking at myself in relation to current standards for RfA, I think I'm now experienced enough that I wouldn't get a flood of Oppose per low editcount, but I might attract votes along the lines of Weak Oppose per limited range of experience, etc. So should I be worried about my lack of experience in these areas? My reply delldot talk 16:58, 10 March 2007 (UTC)
OK, thanks for your help. I think I should now be ready for RfA in about 2 weeks; I should have around 3500 edits by then, including at least 100 in WP talkspace, which is the only remaining serious concern. I agree with you that the necessity to rack up edits in particular areas is one of the more detrimental side-effects of the RfA process, but it's also true (hopefully) that many editors will look at the quality of my edits, as well as their number. Thanks again for all your help - I think I've come a long way as an editor in the last couple of months, largely due to following your advice. Walton Vivat Regina! 18:50, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

BellyBelly

Apologies for posting my BellyBelly link, I saw other commercial links and thought it was okay. I offer information on my site which is balanced and gives women the opportunity to make informed decisions, most pregnancy and baby websites are biased and owned by media or commercial companies, I am a birth attendant (doula) and mum working from home. My articles are proof-read and contributed to by many in the industry who are highly regarded, and even those who contribute to Wikipedia. It was an honest mistake but a shame I can't include the odd link offering balanced info. I dont make a salary from my site so I am not gaining any financial benefits from linking on Wikipedia. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 58.106.69.202 (talk) 01:35, 10 March 2007 (UTC).

Hi again

I wanted to ask you to please orrect my page. It says that Self Medicated won 17 film festivals. It has won 36 festivals. If you visit the link on my page that goes to the "Self Medicated" page in IMDB you will notice that IMDB has 21 of the festivals listed and the website has all of them listed. Thank you again for everything. Sean Wolfington76.18.54.173 04:55, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

Sharon Bush

I've seen your magic. I'm really impressed and appreciate your assistance.

As far as "Habitat for Humanity" is concerned, I worked with the former President while in the capacity of Community Affairs Manager for WCNC-TV (NBC) in Charlotte, NC. Unfortunately, I am unable to provide you with a reference because it was one of many initiatives in which I was involved. In other words, that was my job...to ascertain the community's needs and address them.

In addition to Habitat for Humanity, I produced telethons which provided a Christmas for thousands of needy children. I actually flew in actor Blair Underwood and actor Ronnie Cox to help me raise needed funds one year. Our efforts aided more than 2,000 children. Only the film/video morgue at WCNC will be able to provide proof as the telethon was televised live.

I do, however, have a photo of the late Danny Thomas and me co-hosting the St. Jude Chidren's Research Hospital's annual telethon in Memphis, Tennessee, if you're interested.

I can scan and e-mail to you some of the articles written about me, if that would help.

With all due respect, I would prefer if you would replace "non-white" with "African-American."

Hi

I just realized that the film Self-Medicated actually has won 38 awards. This link has all the details for each award: http://www.selfmedicated.com/blog_new/. I think it would suffice to simply mention that it won the 38 awards and you can determine if it is newsworthy to highlight any of the festivals and/or articles, which all are listed at this site. On another unrelated topic i wanted to ask you for your help. The director of our film was honored at the whitehouse with an award and i wanted to see if you could help me update his page at Alejandro Gomez Monteverde. Here is an article that gives an overview of the event: http://www.zenit.org/english/. Also, Alejandro and the lead actor Eduardo Verastegui are recieving the "Legacy Award" from the Smithsonian this Tuesday and i wanted to ask you if you could update that on both their pages also. Here is the link to an article that explains it: http://www.socialmiami.com/features/SmithsonianHonorsBella.asp Thank you for your help. By the way, your invited to the private screening that the Smithsonian is hosting in Miami this Tuesday if you want to come. Thank you for everything. Sean Wolfington. Seanwolfington 20:40, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

Here are some other links to references regarding Alejandro Monteverde's web page. I am giving you these because there is a note on his page that say's he lacks references. Both of these articles reference most of what is on his page.

Pyoderma gangrenosum pictures

Sorry for taking so long to get back to you but I am trying to learn this site, and it's slow going sorry to say. Anyways, I have the pictures I told you about but I don't understand yet how to show them. So, I would like to email them to you, if that's ok, along with the email giving me permission to share the photos. Please email me back and let me know how you feel about this and how to do it from Microsoft Outlook. I have at least a half a dozen photos to share for the article for you to choose from. They are very graffic. Thanks, --Crohnie 12:54, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

(copied from my talk page to make sure you see my response.)

First, I would love to have you as my mentor. If you have patience with someone with serious medical problems and a slow learning curve then I accept. If I am too much to handle let me know.

I got your email, thanks, what I did was forward it all to you ( the pictures and the email giving me permission from the personal owner who sent me the pictures.) The pictures are not copywriten, they are an email friend's personal pictures he took, this is so you are clear on this. I looked and tried to download and fill out that form and didn't understand it as of yet. As for putting the pictures on the talk page, they are very graffic so I would love your opinion about them. As for downloading them anywhere, I tried and couldn't do it. I tried for over thirty minutes before asking you to email me. I hope the pictures are ok to use because they really show what PG is. Thanks for your help. --Crohnie 21:21, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

I've Changed my Username

Just wanted to let you know that I've decided to don a new mask so that I may become a contributor. I hope that I did it correctly. I've noticed that most folks masquerade in this manner. So I will no longer be signing "Sharon Dahlonega." Incidentally, I've given a few areas a cursory look, and you've got your work cut out for you. I see what you mean.
