Hi, David. Just letting you know that you added two references, "waypoint-infinitynotes" and "gamesradar-infinityreleased", both to the same URL. I assume the latter was a mistake. —zziccardi (talk) 19:48, 28 February 2016 (UTC)

Re: Edward Drinker Cope

Every linked genus has its own Wikipedia page saying that it was named by Cope, so each link is its own "source." The list is not exhaustive, just me procrastinating today by going around Wikipedia seeing how many genera named by Cope I could find. I've never seen a list of animals named by Cope, and was curious how many famous taxa would be on it. I was planning to keep adding to the list until it was complete, but it looks like I'm not very welcome to!

EDIT: I have no interest in spending time adding a source for each genus, so go ahead an delete my edit.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.67.186.136 (talk) 22:44, 1 March 2016 (UTC)

Klingons

Is there a particular reason you reverted my changes instead of placing a "citation needed" tag? A simple viewing of early TOS episodes or a simple Google search will show that I am not just making this up, even if an official source is not so easy to come by. After all, Gene Roddenberry's political motivations are present in the article with nothing to back them up, and this is much more easily verifiable than that. --Sm5574 (talk) 19:49, 21 March 2016 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for April 22

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Star Trek Generations, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Bluescreen. Simply put, AfDs aren't votes. Arguments for deletion were more compelling and based in Wikipedia policies and guidelines than arguments to keep because it's interesting or informative. Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs(talk) 16:20, 11 May 2016 (UTC)

Input about article section for a character list

Hey David! It's been too long! So, my current emphasis has been on improving List of Alien characters, after I saved it from deletion. For putting it together, I have had smooth sailing with setting this on course for the first two films on the page, but Alien 3 has been- pardon my French- a real bitch. I've hit an absolute roadblock with the character Robert Morse, as I cannot find any sources that give him any special emphasis beyond, "Yeah, he was played by this guy," or, "The man was a dick". Tell me, even though he has a bit of an impact on story in the end, does he even belong on the list page? I want to keep as much information as possible, but it's apparent his character has no lasting impact, is not the subject of any analytical discussion and worst yet, the character will prevent the page from reaching FL status. Should I remove him? DARTHBOTTO talkcont 03:15, 25 May 2016 (UTC)

Well, I'd appreciate your input for whenever you're back. But for now, I've removed the character from the list, as they apparently don't hold any cultural weight and their complete lack of sources are a hindrance to the list's FL potential. But yeah, let me know what you think when you're back. DARTHBOTTO talkcont 01:11, 29 May 2016 (UTC)

"@DarthBotto: Sorry for the delay. I think it's mostly up to your discretion. For Characters of Halo we drew the line that the only characters who would get mentioned would be recurring characters, to cut down on the scope. I dunno if that would work in your case, but I also don't think every section needs real-world info. If you're covering the major characters for each film it'd probably be better to leave him in, unless you narrow the scope significantly. Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs(talk) 21:04, 30 May 2016 (UTC)

Well, Morse is a very peripheral character who doesn't display any note-worthy actions, save for the fact that he's the lone survivor of the protagonists. I mean, I can't really say he's notable with the plot summary alone. I have considered having the page be only for recurring characters, but the problem with that is it would only likely be ten characters seen more than once, with literally only three of them being something more than a photograph or body double, haha. Big problem, eh? My instinct is to cut out peripheral characters with little narrative or cultural impact and see what happens. It's kind of frustrating, as it feels like I'm trudging into unfamiliar territory, as the nature of the way characters exist in the Alien franchise is unique, where there's one big recurring player in each movie, along with almost equally important supporting characters who don't make it into the sequel and if they do, they're not really characters! The cover art used in this article is the lesser known UK version, or this cover. The official US cover looks like this: http://pcmedia.ign.com/pc/image/rct3_pcusbox.jpg. FAC voluntary mentoring scheme

During a recent lengthy discussion on the WP:FAC talkpage, several ideas were put forward as to how this procedure could be improved, particularly in making it more user-friendly towards first-time nominees. The promotion rate for first-timers at FAC is depressingly low – around 16 percent – which is a cause for concern. To help remedy this, Mike Christie and I, with the co-operation of the FAC coordinators, have devised a voluntary mentoring scheme, in which newcomers will guided by more experienced editors through the stages of preparation and submission of their articles. The general format of the scheme is explained in more detail on Wikipedia: Mentoring for FAC, which also includes a list of editors who have indicated that they are prepared to act as mentors.

Would you be prepared to take on this role occasionally? If so, please add your name to the list. By doing so you incur no obligation; it will be entirely for you to decide how often and on which articles you want to act in this capacity. We anticipate that the scheme will have a trial run for a few months before we appraise its effectiveness. Your participation will be most welcome. Brianboulton (talk) 18:02, 29 August 2016 (UTC)

Many thanks for signing up. The response from would-be mentors has been most encouraging. Schemes like this are often slow to take off, and it may be a while before we know if it's working. But with this level of support, including that of many of our most experienced FA editors, I think it has every chance. Brianboulton (talk) 16:32, 30 August 2016 (UTC)

He defeated both his opponents by KO.

Extended confirmed protection

Hello, David Fuchs. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.

Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.

In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:

  • Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
  • A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.

Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.
This message was sent to the administrators' mass message list. To opt-out of future messages, please remove yourself from the list. 17:49, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

Two-Factor Authentication now available for admins

Hello,

Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard. A new user right for New Page Patrollers

Hi David Fuchs.

A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.

It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.

If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR. (Sent to all admins).MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:47, 15 November 2016 (UTC)

ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open!

Hello, David Fuchs. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.

Advice or help

Hello, I was wondering if you could help me as your name is on the FAC mentor page. I have nominated Joker (comics) for FAC for a second time at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Joker (comics)/archive2. Shortly after it was listed, user CurlyTurkey, who had opposed it's promotion last time, opposed it again but did so under faulty pretenses. In this particular case, the user did not read the article and judged that the changes requested last time had not been enacted. After pointing this out he retracted his oppose. He's since gotten into a debate with a different user over the Disambiguation title and has now opposed the article again citing 1E, the stability of the article. But this rule refers to the Edit History of the article not a debate between two users. Can you please advise because the user is derailing the nomination with these oppositions, and neither have been applicable. Darkwarriorblake / SEXY ACTION TALK PAGE! 23:26, 6 January 2017 (UTC)

File permission problem with File:Ilb phone call.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Ilb phone call.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

ATTENTION: This is an automated, bot-generated message. This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 03:00, 20 January 2017 (UTC)

Mentoring

Hi David, I saw you listed as an FA mentor with experience on film topics, and I was wondering if you could assist me in nominating Planet of the Apes. I've been involved in the FA process before, but it's been quite some time, so I figured it would be best to bring in someone with more experience. The article just completed a peer review and I think it's ready (or close to it). Thanks!--Cúchullain t/c 16:22, 2 March 2017 (UTC)

@Cuchullain: I'd be happy to look. I'm going to be out of town for most of this weekend so I'll try and give it a thorough look early next week and give you might thoughts. Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs(talk) 16:31, 2 March 2017 (UTC)
Great, thanks again!--Cúchullain t/c 16:44, 2 March 2017 (UTC)

I'm hoping to submit this for Featured soon, I saw your name for mentoring and was wondering if you could offer some advice in that regard if you think it's ready or needs further work. Thank you.--CyberGhostface (talk) 18:36, 3 March 2017 (UTC)
