September 2017[edit]

Hello, I'm DVdm. Your recent edit to Escape velocity appears to have added incorrect information, so I removed it for now. If you believe the information was correct, please cite a reliable source or discuss your change on the article's talk page. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. DVdm (talk) 21:01, 21 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Note re this: the English Wikipedia uses the period as a decimal point, and the comma as the thousands separator. The original value was correct (and sourced). - DVdm (talk) 21:30, 21 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I don't understand, you say that the period is used but on the page it clearly displays: "11.186 km/s (6.951 mi/s; 40,270 km/h; 25,020 mph)" from the automated converter. I don't care if a comma or period is used, but since the converter is defaulting to a comma for the generated values leaving it as a period makes no sense. Additionally citing a source isn't relevant here because I'm changing formatting, not content.

The esacpe velocity is 11.186 km/s, not 11186 km/s. If you change that to 11,186 km/s, you change the value to 11186 km/s, which is wrong. The original "11.186 km/s (6.951 mi/s; 40,270 km/h; 25,020 mph)" shows four correct values. Your "11,186 km/s (6,951 mi/s; 40,270,000 km/h; 25,020,000 mph)" is wrong—just look at these strings "40,270,000 km/h" and "25,020,000 mph": there is no way they can make sense. - DVdm (talk) 22:47, 21 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
... and see also WP:DECIMAL:
  • A period/full point (.), never a comma, is used as the decimal point (6.57, not 6,57).

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your contributions. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, please note that there is a Manual of Style that should be followed to maintain a consistent, encyclopedic appearance. Deviating from this style, as you did in Martavis Bryant, disturbs uniformity among articles and may cause readability or accessibility problems. This was a bad edit. See wp:REFPUNCT. - DVdm (talk) 18:41, 3 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
