Saddam Hussein article

Don't revert important information. This screams POV. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Crud3w4re (talkcontribs)

sorry for late response. I have been pretty busy. I didn't mean to revert your edits on Saddam Hussein. About 2 days ago, There were many Wikipedians try to add more informations about his execution, and then try to improve the article by changing in their own words. Anyways, I reverted this because your edits contains what each person was saying during Hussein's execution. Most of the article doesn't need what person's saying which means their conversation. I think that I already explained the reason for reverting your edits on edit summary, but I'm here to explain my reversion more detailed. Daniel5127 <Talk> 04:47, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
Ahh I forgot to mention that you need to follow 3RR. If you keep reverting other's edits repeatedly, It might be considered violating 3RR rule. So, Please follow the 3RR. Thanks. Daniel5127 <Talk> 04:49, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

Hi Daniel. The list on my userpage is generated by a script that User:Dragons flight operates. You can include it on your userpage using the following code: {{User:Dragons_flight/RFA_summary}}. Good luck, Gwernol 01:20, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

Hi again Daniel! Meetups happen whenever enough people decide to have one. I have only gone to one so far (Wikipedia:Meetup/Santa Barbara) -- it was a lot of fun, but there were only two of us. Have a look at the page on the last Los Angeles meetup: I think another could be organized. I couldn't go to the last one because it was at a bad time (I don't really want to drive to LA during rush hour for an evening meetup!) Happy editing, Antandrus (talk) 01:32, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
Hi Daniel. No, actually Angela contacted me; she was going to be in town for a conference on developing technologies, specifically wikis, at UCSB. Ironically it was a closed conference by invitation only so I couldn't go. Oh, the irony. Antandrus (talk) 03:36, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

Re: Pinguim Crystal.

Oh, heh. If you check Image:Pinguim_Crystal_2000.png#filelinks, it's been added to a number of userpages. To add to the mystery, however, I don't who added it or if they had a reason for it, heh. ;) Seems cute and harmless enough, unless there's some sinister purpose I don't know about. I'm not sure I fully understand your question, but I'll try to answer it anyway :) The Main page is kind of like a summary, or newspaper front page as you say. It details current world events (like Saddams execution), and provides a place for Featured Content to be showcased to the readers of Wikipedia, among other things. Some people refer to the Main page as a Portal to Wikipedia's large base of content. If you have a question or comments relating to the Main Page, you can ask it here. I hope this helps. -- Longhair\talk 08:29, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

Proxy vandal

Hi Daniel5127,

Most of the open proxies I mark are typically flagged on the SORBS list of open proxies. The backslashing proxy behavior is only indicative of a poorly configured proxy. Hope this helps! Syrthiss 12:55, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

Bureaucrats

Are essentially admins who have been given two additional tools. They can promote admins, and they can mark an editor as a bot (so it doesn't show up when someone has asked there watchlist or recent changes list not to show bot edits). For more detail I suggest you look at Wikipedia:Bureaucrat. JoshuaZ 07:09, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

NOT the same

You know, i recall no instance of vandalizing an article. You know how when you forget to login and you may have a different IP adress than when the last time you forgot to login well it is just like that when you forget to login and somebody vandalizes a page with your IP and guess what?...You end up getting blamed for it! I didn't vandalize no usepage. Would you PLEASE say what page was vandalized BEFORE you complain about it? Thank you (sarcastic)--74.138.102.134 20:43, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for quick response. As I have been reading about your bot (WP 1.0 Bot) on WP 1.0 bot, does this bot always updates an assessment on every wiki project? Is it right? Daniel5127 | Talk 04:28, 24 February 2007 (UTC)
It does not update the assessments page on any wikiproject, only those which follow the instructions. Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 05:45, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

Hi, Daniel5127, I just wanted to thank you for your support on my RfA, which was successful with a final tally of 61/0/2. I'm glad you found me a good candidate, and I'm honored at the trust the community has placed in me and hope my conduct as an administrator will justify that trust. If you have any comments about my use of the tools I would be glad to hear from you on my talk page. Thanks again! Heimstern Läufer 08:44, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

Text editors

Mozex is an extension for Firefox/Mozilla that lets you use external programs for different things, and in particular for editing. It works for Windows, Linux, or Mac. With Mozex, you open a page for editing, and then right-click in the text area and select 'use external editor.' Then Mozex feeds the text to your editor of choice - Windows Notepad, Vim, or whatever. You make your edits and save, then go back to the browser and Mozex pastes the edit into the edit window. I have not used Mozex for several months, but I remember it being pretty good. There is more at the link on my user page.

As you say, Vim is a text editor, like Notepad. Vim is mostly used by Unix/Linux guys, but is available for Windows, Mac, and most other operating systems. Vim is very powerful and fully script-able, but it is not very intuitive and has a steep learning curve, and I think it works best in conjunction with the utilities found on a Unix system. I use it and like it, but unless you are specifically interested in Unix/Linux, you might want to think about learning Emacs instead. It is as powerful as Vim, has a built in Lisp interpreter, and is popular among math guys. It has quite a few different editing modes for special purposes, including editing Wikipedia. Both Vim and Emacs, and most other good text editors, have Syntax highlighting, which is just great. Cream (Vim) is another thing I want to look at when I get time.

Separate from Mozex, the software that runs Wikipedia has a feature that lets you use an external editor directly. I think this will work from Windows, but I have only used it with Linux, and do not know how to set it up for anything else. It works perfectly most of the time, but fails mysteriously on a few pages.

Linux, as you know, is an operating system. I use the Debian distribution and only rarely edit from a Windows system. For desktop use, Ubuntu is excellent. If I were installing a new Linux system for a Desktop, I would use Ubuntu. It comes with a live CD, so you can try it out without installing anything. Tom Harrison Talk 23:58, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

Hi, Wikinight. I'm really sorry to bother you ask this question. As I enjoy reverting all vandalisms on many articles, I saw many wikipedian use TWINKLE to revert into last version. In my opinion, Twinklekuff is very similar to Popups. Reason I asked you question about Twinkle is that I haven't seen new tools for reverting vandalism. I usually use Javascript to enjoy reverting all vandals. Have you ever used Twinkle before when you revert vandalism on many articles? Anyways, Could you please explain a bit about Twinkle? Please reply in my talk page. your response would be appreciated. Daniel5127 | Talk 04:46, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

Sorry, I haven't used it. One of the sysop tools I use is a Rollback button at the top of every diff and history page. Sorry I can't tell you much about TWINKLE. I've seen it referenced quite a bit myself - I may have to investigate. —Wknight94 (talk) 04:49, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

Salt.js

Salt.js doesn't replace the monobook.js, which I think may be the cause of your confusion. It's much like User:Lupin/popups.js which you've got in your monobook, a script that can be placed into the monobook.js. Salt.js is basically a script that allows admins to WP:SALT pages more easily. – Steel 02:33, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi, Netsnipe. I saw you blocked this ip for about six months as School ip. Is there any reason you blocked school ip for 6 months even it could be shared by different students in School? I hope you could explain why you blocked school ip for 6 monthes. Please reply in my talk page. Cheers! Daniel5127 | Talk 07:04, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

The block is anonymous-only and was imposed after these vandalism edits as a preventative measure. I along several admins who patrol WP:AIV regularly schoolblock IPs of K-12 schools for 6 months at a time since our experience shows that 95% of edits originating from such schools are pure vandalism. --  Netsnipe  ►  07:11, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

Blue letters

Hi, Sandstein. My purpose here is to ask you about the blue letters on your user page. I saw that there are three words on Swiss Federal Supreme Court Building, Pediment incision. The three words are LEX, IVISTITIA, PAX. Could you please explain what does three words mean? Please, reply in my talk page. Thanks in advance! Daniel5127 | Talk 18:39, 8 April 2007 (UTC)

Hi. It's Latin for "Law, Justice, Peace". The words are wikilinked, click to find out more... Sandstein 18:44, 8 April 2007 (UTC)

Re: Block on Open Proxies

Yes, there is a reason behind it. Simply because an IP is an open proxy now does not mean it always will be. To steal Centrx's words, it's because "most IPs are no longer open proxies after so long a time. Many are no longer open proxies even after only a month or a year, let alone 5 years."[2] If these IPs are still open proxies on April 14 2012, we'll re-scan and re-block them accordingly. --Michael Billington (talk) 03:57, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

You put some light into my days
With your warm and beautiful words,

TUPjs.js

Hi. The TUPjs script is called by the line "importScript('User:HighInBC/TUPjs.js');" in my monobook.js. It is on its own page just to keep it out of the way.

I have a script that finds temporary userpages that need deleting or removing from the category and then open up the right window in the browser. The script also adds an extra parameter to the query string to trigger my script. In short it removes categories and fills in edit summaries and hits the preview button. HighInBC(Need help? Hi

I am new here. I was going to leave a warning forCarpet9 Because he had been "vandalising" an article. The article is no longer here because he did so much damage to it, i put it up for speedy deletion, and it was deleted. May i say this was back in Feb.9 of 2007.(or around) Anyway, i say he had been blocked for doing something i don't get. If you have time, and i saw the message that you may not respond in a while, please tell me what he did, and what was the punishment! God Bless, Politics rule 9:44pm EST.-4/18/2007.

Main page images

Hi. Main page images, as well as everything else that appears on the main page are protected because of their high visibility. If they were not protected, they would very likely be vandalised, that is, someone would upload a different file (a shock image, for example) over the correct image. This would result in said shock image appearing on the main page instead of the intended picture. I hope this explains the protection. --KFP (talk | contribs) 13:36, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

re: Regex.js

Hi, Pathoschild. I saw that you created Regex.js yesterday. Well, I personally like to know more about different kinds of monobooks in wikipedia which is created by various users, and I also think that different types of monobooks in Wikipedia is used for different things. What do you use Regex.js for? Could you please explain Regex.js to me briefly in my talk pages? Please, respond in my talk page. Cheers! Daniel 5127 06:35, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
Hello Daniel. regex.js is a JavaScript file which is transcluded in a skin file. This makes it easier to edit, and allows other users to transclude it as well. For example, see the following code in monobook.js:
/*************
*** Semi-auto regex replacement toolbar
*************/
document.write('<script type="text/javascript" src="'
  + '&action=raw&ctype=text/javascript&dontcountme=s"></script>');
The script itself adds a "regex tools" menu on the sidebar. Clicking a link on the menu runs a small script which automatically changes the textbox. For example, it might be used to automagically correct block templates with one click. (However, it's not working correctly yet.) —{admin} Pathoschild 18:20:19, 03 May 2007 (UTC)
