Welcome![edit]

Hello, DanH1922, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you edited was Poppy Factory, which appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms of use and our policy on paid editing.

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Again, welcome!

Your contributions appear constructive and therefore have not been reverted. Please attend though to this matter before editing again. Kind Regards, Martin of Sheffield (talk) 15:59, 16 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, DanH1922. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Poppy Factory, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you.

Please respond to this, I do not want to raise this with the administrators. Martin of Sheffield (talk) 15:03, 14 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Martin of Sheffield, sorry for not replying sooner. I am new to editing on Wikipedia and have just properly noticed the Talk section. I am the Senior Communications Manager at The Poppy Factory and part of my job is to make sure any online information about our charity is up to date and not incorrect.
I have been working to correct inaccuracies in our Wikipedia entry, as these appear to have been posted a long time ago when our operation was very different. For example, we no longer produce individual remembrance poppies, however the wreaths are still made at the factory. The size and shape of our workforce has also changed.
It is also the case that 90 per cent of our activity as a charity now involves employment support for veterans across England and Wales, helping them into all kinds of employment. While this work is a directly linked to our long history of employment support for veterans, it has no direct link to the production of poppies or wreaths, and I have been trying to clarify this in our entry.
Please be assured I am not trying to use Wikipedia as a promotional tool, only to ensure that the information is accurate and up to date. Many thanks for your support.
All the best,
Dan DanH1922 (talk) 16:12, 17 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@DanH1922: Thank you for getting back to me. As I've mentioned a couple of times, I could see that your edits were well intentioned and not any sort of vandalism or excessive promotion. I hope you've had a chance to read the two sections WP:PAID and WP:COI mentioned above. Let me stress that these restrictions only apply to the Poppy Factory and possibly anything similar such as the Appeal or the Legion. They don't apply to anything you do in your spare time that is off topic.
Wiki needs to keep a balance between provable facts and blatant advertising; you'd be surprised what some companies try to do. That's why we strongly advise that you do not edit pages directly, but place a request on the article's talk page. Usually a sympathetic editor who has worked on the page in the past (for instance me) will notice the edit request and respond. You'll also need to place a couple of standard notices on the Poppy Factory's talk page (Template:Connected contributor (paid)) and on your own user page (Template:Paid). I'd be happy to help with this if you are unsure about templates.
I mentioned that Wiki needs to be able to demonstrate facts. You'll see a few "Citation needed" messages put in by other editors. They are simply that, facts cannot be asserted they need to be supported by published sources. Generally a reliable newspaper article or a third party website is sufficient. I did say "generally", there are some newspapers which have been sufficiently inaccurate in the past that they are regarded as unreliable, the Daily Mail is one of those.
Finally, thanks for getting back to me. I hated having to start the process of referring this up to administrators but now we are talking I'll do my best to help you. I've cancelled the notice about the COI infringement. Please, please get back to me for any help or advice. I've been a supporter of the Legion since a youngster (not qualified to be a member) and genuinely wish all concerned well. Martin of Sheffield (talk) 17:57, 17 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
