A barnstar for you![edit]

The GA barnstar
I present you with this barnstar for all the productive work on expanding articles related to Kylie Minogue's albums and bringing them to GA status. This is to let you know that your efforts have been noticed and are greatly appreciated. I wish you the best of luck in the future, and good luck with your current expansion of KM94. – Gabrielflorin01 (talk) 22:41, 6 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
What an honor! Thank you so much. I really enjoy reading your P!nk-related articles for quite some time now. I was an administrator of a local fan page of hers during the album rollout of The Truth About Love and the whole world tour after that. Your work reminds me of that particular time, all fun and being productive lol. Keep up the good work and good luck! Damian Vo (talk) 16:07, 7 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Kylie Minogue (album)[edit]

Hello:

The copy edit you requested from the Guild of Copy Editors of the article Kylie Minogue (album) has been completed.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

I have added two "Clarification needed" tags because I was uncertain what both sentences were trying to convey. You'll need to fix them if you can. I'm also fairly certain, having looked at it, that this sentence in the Music and lyrics section has the wrong citation ("fortune"): The original sentence in the section read: "Automatic Love" is one of the ballads that "had Minogue eager in her burgeoning womanhood". I edited it to read {{tq|Harrison felt "Automatic Love" is one of the ballads that showed Minogue "eager" for "her burgeoning womanhood". guessing that was the intended meaning. Perhaps this can be checked and clarified.

Best of luck with the GAN when you get to it.

Kylie Minogue[edit]

Hey! How are you? I wanted to congratulate you on your amazing work on the Kylie Minogue album and Impossible Princess articles! Will you be doing Light Years next? Will you re-expand Fever, Body Language and the following albums? Will you work on the singles eventually? LOL so many questions 😅 anyway, great job you did there. Let me know if you ever need help. Cheers! --Christian (talk) 19:35, 26 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello there. Thank u for all the support. I am currently on a short wiki-break after weeks of writing those two (lengthy) articles. I have intended to write all of the KM albums and make a few changes to her main article, before going deep into her singles and small releases. I actually found your draft of Light Years to be very cohesive and smooth and I'd love to work on it someday if you don't mind 🤓 KM's Parlophone years always intrigue me. Btw I love all of your Madonna articles recently! Have a nice week! Damian Vo (talk) 04:38, 5 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Damian Vo: OMG I would be honored if you based your future work in one of my sandboxes 😄 Let me know if I can help you on anything. It was very good to review another one of these album articles for you, but I am honestly not too familiar with Kylie Minogue's work. I would like to get into her material though; could you recommend me a Minogue album to start off? And by the way, I did not ask this until today because I had a hearing impairment for over a week. --K. Peake 12:57, 7 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Kyle Peake: I was just thinking about giving you a barnstar before receiving this message. I can't thank you enough for all the support and helpful comments, especially with a non-native English speaker like me :D I hope you're feeling better, having a hearing impairment must have been painful, especially to music lovers during this horrible pandemic. About Minogue, I think Fever and Body Language would be great for starters–they are filled with sugar-coated synths and easy 90s feels. If you're looking for something more edgy, as I assume most West's fans would be, the hip-hop influenced 1994 album and Impossible Princess will please you, I hope. I heard the UK is going through tough times during the pandemic. Stay safe! Damian Vo (talk) 17:20, 7 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I am very glad to hear how grateful you are of my hard work and yes, it was a struggle since I could not hear out my right ear for over a week and I still need to put oil drops in twice a day until syringing in nine days! Thank you for giving me different directions to go in with your recommendations; it is interesting to see you observed myself as being a West fan from the GANs page but I do enjoy variety, so I may be more likely to check out one of the albums from the former group mentioned by you to be honest. --K. Peake 17:52, 7 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Glad I could help :D Damian Vo (talk) 10:18, 9 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I did check out Body Language yesterday, it was a very good album with the enticing production and love-based lyrics; thanks for the recommendation! --K. Peake 07:06, 13 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It's never too late to fall in love with Kylie! How's your hearing? Are you feeling better? Damian Vo (talk) 07:24, 13 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Got to appreciate the classics of course and I do still need to have syringing on 16 March due to my canal having overproduced wax in both ears, but I can hear out my right one again so I'm doing okay thanks! --K. Peake 08:18, 13 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

"Single Chart-Book Complete Edition 1968-2005"[edit]

Hi there, I tried to ping you back in January, but was having some issues with pings at the time, and realize you may not have received it. In any event, an editor requested help finding a work on the resource exchange, and I noticed that you have used the same work in your own edits, and may thus be able to help. If so, it would certainly be appreciated. But no worries if not, of course, and apologies if you did, if fact, already see the request. Impossible Princess[edit]

Hello:

I'm working on the copy edit for Impossible Princess you requested at the GOCE. I have a couple of points needing clarification. In the Recording and development section it says.

The process was at times upsetting and infuriating because of schedule conflicts between the producers. "Infuriating" or Minogue, the producers, who?

It refers to Minogue or the process as a whole. Here's the quote from the book: "There had been many changes of direction and remixes in that time. Some co-writers had been dropped and others recruited even though Kylie herself had written or co-written every single track that ended up on the set. All the same, the project had been a long - and at times - an upsetting and infuriating process."Checked TfT

Lyrics and melodies come to Minogue easily, in which she precisely tells a story and emphasize it. The first part of the sentence makes sense. Should it just be left at that? The second half isn't clear.

Sure thing! Maybe I tried too hard on including many clues/info within the production parts. Damian Vo (talk) 06:28, 24 March 2021 (UTC)Checked TfT[reply]

"Too Far" was written on a grand piano, which is the easiest track for Minogue to write and also "makes the most senses" to her.[1][2] Minogue imagined performing "Too Far" while writing it—she had to write it at a local cafe in order to leave her home in London, which she claimed to have infested "negative vibes" at the time. There's a lot going on here. It says she wrote it on a piano but she also wrote it at a cafe. Do I assume she wrote the melody on a piano and the lyrics at a cafe? It was the easiest track to write? On the album? Why/in what way does it make the "most sense". Any idea why the house was "infested" with negative vibes? Since it raises questions as it stands, it needs to be elaborated to be included in the article I think.

Minogue never actually discusses why the house had the "negative vibes" or what really happened to her that led to writing the song. All she said was how she wrote the song as a way to express her negative emotions, like a kind of therapy or "exorcise the demons inside of her", things like that. I tried to incorporate so many clues that I found into the production paragraphs that it maybe too much. Maybe we could trim it down to the local cafe background and the "grand piano" part to give it a little background story, the chaotic nature of the song is sort of referenced in the song analysis section. Damian Vo (talk) 06:28, 24 March 2021 (UTC)Checked TfT[reply]

I'll carry on with the copy edit and incorporate your responses when I hear from you.

Impossible Princess continued[edit]

Hello:

A few clarifications, if you can, of Sessions with Brothers in Rhythm section.

"Tracks like "Floating" and "Looking Down On Me" were available only as demos. This is the first time these tracks are mentioned. Since they aren't on the album, why are they being mentioned. Doesn't seem relevant to me.

Yeah, I tried to give a little more substance to the process but if it's not working, we could trim it down. Damian Vo (talk) 06:53, 24 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Checked TfT

"Deconstruction's A&R department was absent during the album's process because Pete Hadfield, the label's director, was ill." Surely the A&R dept had more than one employee? Would it be more accurate to say P.H., the label's A&R director, was ill when then album was being recorded?

The source only mentioned Minogue involved in the production during the time P.H. was ill. The A&R part sentence was taken from the previous GA version. Maybe we could trim that part down. Damian Vo (talk) 06:53, 24 March 2021 (UTC)Checked TfT[reply]

"As a result, she is credited as a co-composer and co-producer with Brothers in Rhythm on the songs "Too Far", "Breathe", and "Say Hey";" Since she composed the lyrics for these she would already be a co-composer. Should perhaps just mention she got co-producer credit for the studio work on these?

Sure! Damian Vo (talk) 06:53, 24 March 2021 (UTC)Checked TfT[reply]

"she played the grand piano and the synthesizer". This is an orphan sentence at the end of the section. Needs clarification. She played on which tracks? on some, or every track using them?

The credits said Minogue only played synthesizer and did extra vocals. Damian Vo (talk) 06:53, 24 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Checked TfT Look forward to your comments. I'll continue with my c/e.

Thank you for informing me about the errors. My apologies for not being able to double-check the small details that you mentioned above, which were kept since the previous GA version. Damian Vo (talk) 06:53, 24 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Twofingered Typist (talk) 20:36, 23 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Damian Vo Please don't apologize. I hope my tone isn't accusatory. I realize the article has been around for many years and many hands of varying ability have worked on it. I've finished the requested copy edit of [[Impossible Princess. As it stands now, I think the article is in good shape.

Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Since it's been a considerable time, and the article has changed greatly, I wonder whether it would be an idea to have the GA status reassessed before putting it up for FAC?

Kylie articles[edit]

Hello Damian! How are you? Good to see you're back expanding the Kylie articles :D I was wondering if you plan on doing Fever, Aphrodite, Kiss Me Once and the rest; will you nominate for GA Light Years and X? Also, I wanted to tell you: I've began an expansion of one of my favorite Kylie songs here if you're interested in helping me finish it, I could gladly use the help. let me know. Cheers! --Christian (talk) 21:03, 15 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Christian. I am planning on promoting Light Years and X to GAs in a very near future, and maybe then taking a brief break on the Kylie articles. Writing four lengthy articles of her albums back-to-back in seven months is quite an achievement to me, regarding the horrible pandemic and my poor social life. I am currently working on something else during the break and I will return to the Kylie articles soon. Since Fever and Aphrodite are already GAs and not particularly in bad shape, I think I would expand on the non-GA albums first. I'd love to work on your draft of YDNY too! Thanks for the heads up and the constant support. Damian Vo (talk) 04:02, 16 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Kylie debut album - Canada chart peak[edit]

Hi Damian,

Check this out

https://worldradiohistory.com/Archive-All-Music/Billboard/80s/1988/BB-1988-12-24.pdf

Billboard mag has the chart peak of #10 (see page 149). The RPM site is incomplete and missing much of the 1988/1989 chart run

Not sure how to update it - can you help out?

Hi @Jarrod76:, I just added a new entry for the peak! The Canadian Charts published in the Hits of the World column in Billboard was actually taken from The Record magazine, which is different from the more popular RPM charts. Please leave me a message if you find more missing peaks for the Kylie Minogue albums/singles. Thank you! Damian Vo (talk) 07:35, 20 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

X: operatic-type shouting "whooo"[edit]

Hi Damian, You may have noticed that I've done some CE of X (Kylie Minogue album) (I didn't reply formally to your request on the GOCE page as I don't want to fully commit to this due to time constraints).

Some word choices in the Writing & Recording section caught my eye. Can you please have a look at them?

  • "and re-did her vocals on the verses" - not clear how she re-did it if it was not her track originally. Also not sure that 'whoos' at the end of the song constitute "operatic-type shouting" :)
I removed the confusing 'whoos' part and changed the "re-did" into "did several takes". Damian Vo (talk) 08:47, 16 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • "furthering the track" - how about joined her in recording the track / working on the track / polishing the track ?
Fixed. Damian Vo (talk) 08:47, 16 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Minogue formed a friendship with her frequent co-writing partner Poole; Minogue feels "easy" when co-writing songs with her because they are sharing the same register." Did she form it while working on the album or did she already have it? This sentence needs rewording.
I gave it a little tweak. Damian Vo (talk) 08:47, 16 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Overall, it's well written and extensively researched. GA nomination perhaps? Leoseliv (talk) 22:10, 15 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Can I ask why you've changed the sourcing format on this article and Charlene Robinson? Is this a new preferred way to lay out references? I'm not sure what was wrong with the previous format, and now neither of these pages match the other Neighbours articles. - JuneGloom07 Talk 18:42, 8 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @JuneGloom07: Both of your articles are well-written and extensively researched. There was nothing wrong with the previous format either! I'm currently trying to update old Kylie-related GAs by archiving and formatting all the sources. I found both of your articles have a lot of rare book/magazine sources (through libraries and archive sites) rather than regular websites, therefore I think this format would help emphasize the rare sources to readers (the same refs layout can be found in this and this). I also replaced the old book refs with the widely used {{Harvard citation no brackets}}. Damian Vo (talk) 05:09, 9 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The TFL blurb can be seen here. If you have any thoughts on the selection, please post them on my talk page or at TFL talk. Regards, Giants2008 (Talk) 00:21, 9 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2021 Elections voter message[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2021 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 6 December 2021. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2021 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:37, 23 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Dick in a Box[edit]

On 15 December 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Dick in a Box, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Asa Taccone was paid just $60 for co-editing and co-writing the Lonely Island's "Dick in a Box"? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Dick in a Box. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Dick in a Box), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.
