Speedy deletion nomination of Down Home Music Archives (DHMA)[edit]

What happened to "Please don't bite the newcomers"?
"The Down Home Music Archives (DHMA)" page, which existed for several years as a stub (?), was recently deleted, so I spent quite a bit of time today figuring out how to respond/appeal, and (correctly, I hope) posted my content on the deleting editor's talk page.
I included expanded information on the talk page regarding the DHMA project that was not provided on "The Down Home Music Archives (DHMA)" page because I did not wish to cross the line into self-promotion (am still confused about rules of factual info being provided by an interested party). This information was not well received by the editor - an uncivil and dismissive comment was made in response.
Several hours later, this account was blocked (am still unclear on the ramifications).
I am requesting additional sets of knowledgeable eyes to examine my deleted page, my usertalk post and the editor's response and please advise what should be the next step for me?
My interactions with Wikipedia are infrequent and I am probably destined to remain the "eternal newbie" so please assume total ignorance on my part.
Pointless conflict with others does not serve Wikipedia nor the DHMA project. My hope is to engage with an advisor intending to facilitate rather than disable my sincere attempt to provide useful information to the Wikipedia community.

- The article gave no indication of significance or importance of its subject, so deletion was perfectly correct by Wikipedia standards.
- You said "My general position is that any entity performing a music research project deserves its own page in Wikipedia. Such projects are typically small and/or regional - by listing them Wikipedia will contribute to these entities' ultimate survival (documenting the documenters' existence). Interested parties need to be able to find us." Unfortunately, that is not consistent with Wikipedia's policies, for at least two reasons. Firstly, Wikipedia requires evidence of notability of a subject, and the idea that "any entity performing a music research project", no matter how notable or un-notable the "entity" may be, does not fit in with that principal. Secondly, using Wikipedia to "contribute to these entities' ultimate survival" is to use Wikipedia for promotion, which again is contrary to policy.
- Your account clearly represents an organisation, and although the amount of editing you have done over the years has been very small, it is clear that you have edited with the intention of promoting that organisation. That being so, your block was completely justified by our blocking policy. Indeed, you might well have been given a "spamusername" block, which would have meant that any IP address you have used would be blocked from creating a new account, whereas you were in fact given a more limited block.
- Coming to the issue of civility and "biting", I'm afraid I have to agree with you. The blocking administrator was not very helpful, and I will post a message to him about it. JamesBWatson (talk) 10:23, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) I was going to say much the same as James; the only things I have to add are that over time, as knowledge of Wikipedia has spread and the number of people hoping to use it to promote themselves or their organizations has increased, the community's resistance to that has also increased, so that the WP:Notability and WP:Conflict of interest rules are more firmly enforced, see also Wikipedia is not here to tell the world about your noble cause.
