Image:FloydThompson.jpg[edit]

Hi, I apreciate the fact that you have gotten permission to use the image on Wikipedia, but the problem here is that Wikipedia only accept free content, and having an exclusive permission to use something only on Wikipedia does not make it free content, this was explained on the notice that where put on the image when you uploaded it (please let us know how that message could be made clearer).

What we need is for the copyright holder to give explicit permission for anyone to use that image under terms that would qualify as a free licence, that is anyone must be eable to use, modify and potentialy use that image for commercial purposes. Only then can it be considered to be "free licensed" and used on Wikipedia. Please see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for details for more info and tips on how to go about requesting this.

Failing that please read Wikipedia:Fair use#Policy, if the image meet all the criterea listed there you may make a fair use claim along with a fair use rationale justifying the use of the unfree image in the article(s) you intend to include it in. --Sherool (talk) 11:04, 9 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't get it, why did you delete the picture you did not wait for me to replay, 3 Minutes after I uploaded the picture you deleted it. You at least could have waited for me to reply and then could have decided to delete image. There was no copyright on the image at all; I also took the time to write to the owner of the picture to ask permission to USE IT ON WIKIPEDIA. He said it was OK to use it on WIKIPEDIA. Hawar is an Iraqi player - please take a look at this; Mladen Bartolović - he is Croatian but he plays for the Bosnian national team, thus making him a Bosnian Croat player. Hi D.Kurdistani,

I think you're right about strating the project. Just use one of the names we suggested because they seem to be the logical ones; others offer some names with full paranoia. The problem is that I was really busy until last week and coincidently my ISP cut my Internet so I need some time to come back and do some work on this. But if you have time please do the Main Page and the other themes of the project so that people could see there is at least a start. Apart from that I think there is a lot of unfairness going on in Kurdish related articles and there's always the Turkish, Arabic or Persian users around to change the factual Kurdish articles to their countries product and that's simply because Kurds haven't got a country. It's like we need to fight for our history, literature and any other subject because every country in the middle east are trying to hide the Kurdish factor in their culture and political arena. No it was not discussed. Wikipedia doesn't belong to anyone, I would like to remind you. Even Ozgurgerilla had suggested that he had favored the WP Kurds name. Believe me, this will be better and more efficient for the project. People are not allowed to create WikiProjects to their liking by themselves either - that can also be seen as disruptive. WikiProjects are open to everyone and everyone has a right to contribute, you cannot block people from contributing per WP:OWN, that's all I am saying. Have a look at this for example: Wikipedia:WikiProject Basque. Listen, I know the issue, but we cannot overlook the fact that there is no independent Kurdish state. But that's exactly what the discussion in the proposals page was for? :) Don't forget that it was also with your individual decision that it was named as such, right? The other question is for future considerations: not only is there too much potential for edit-wars over that template if it stayed like that, but there is also a problem with WP:V - of what can be included in Kurdistan. I am sorry, but things are not clear cut as you might think. That region has been home to many other peoples for millenia like Assyrians, Armenians, Turks, Persians and Arabs - when I say that there are serious academic and legitimate problems about WP:V, I mean it. As I had said earlier, there is not much Wikipedia can do if there is no independent Kurdish state. Listen, there is not even a WikiProject TRNC even thought that is an actual state, do you see what I mean? Its stubs are speedily deleted for that reason. I am seriously cool with WP Kurds - but I am also worried about the actual efficiency this project will achieve if this issue is not taken care of. I was thinking that some people may object to the creation of such a portal, however as there are portals on almost everything I see little reason for it. Hope you're fine. First of all, what Baristarim is doing is very wrong. We have decided the projects name and have applied it; thus no one has the right to tell us what to name it. The name should be changed to Kurdistan as soon as possible and should Baristarim behave in the same manner, then we would have to put some administrators into the issue. Concerning the content and articles of which the Project should work for, to be honest there is a huge lack of academic studies in Kurdish let alone Wikipedia, but this doesn't mean we have nothing to do. In fact there is so many articles we could add and improve regarding Kurds and Kurdistan. We just have to work on the WikiProject page from now on, let's start of by listing the articles we could improve. Currently I am busy reading our rights and the WikiRules to proceed in a systamic manner. We should decide fundamental problems such as categorizing the articles, by country or else. Please do proceed developing the Project, I think this project is absolutely vital for Kurdish-related articles to be improved for the better Wikipedia and realiable Internet source. And do not hesitate to ignore those nationalist users who are accusing as of doing a political propaganda but are boycotting our Project pages; apart from that everyone should be welcomed to participate. "Group"? What group has decided this? In the final roll call there were only two users. Get real :)) In any case, it is irrlevant, Wikipedia is not the local high school where every group has their "own turf". You were the only one pushing for the Kurdistan name in the WP Proposals page. I contribute to wide range of articles, so don't pass such a judgement call on my contributions please. Had I really been interested in negativity, I wouldn't even have said a word about this whole thing but just went on edit-warring at articles about the WP template per WP:VERIFIABILITY - meaning the criteria that can be used to determine what article falls into the scope of "Kurdistan" and not "Kurds". With the Kurdistan name the WP will become marginal, can't you see that? In fact, maybe you should go ahead and plaster all sorts of Ocalan and PKK images on the WP, how about that? That would really nail the coffin. I put another post at the WP talk page about how it is childish to try to create the WP before the country. It is lame dude, cannot u see that?? :)) I fully support WP Kurds and I know that I can really help but I also know that with Kurdistan this project will become dead in a short while (in fact I am not even sure if it is active at this stage really). I don't know if the additions to Iraqi Kurdistan are in copyright violations or not, but I could put them back on the article and get sources for them. I started the Demographics of Iraqi Kurdistan page for this article, but it was merged with this article. Orphaned non-free image (Image:The Saga of Jim Thompson 2.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:The Saga of Jim Thompson 2.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. September WPOR Collaboration of the Week[edit]

First off, great job to all WikiProject Oregon folks for last week’s List of Oregon State Parks work. We pounded out six new state park articles: Sarah Helmick, Bald Peak, Bob Straub, Sumpter Valley Gold Dredge, Tumalo, and Peter Skene Ogden. Plus numerous other edits to improve the existing articles. As a reward, we are introducing the COTW award {{WPOR COTW award}}, and this time it goes to User:Woodstein52 for starting three of the articles.

WPOR CoTW: Don Schollander & Conde McCullough[edit]

Greetings WPOR world. Last week was great with the Barlow Road seeing lots of improvement, maybe even B class. Columbia River Plateau also saw some improvement, maybe enough to bump it to Start. On with the countdown, another two Stubs in the High category, both happen to be people: Don Schollander a multi-gold medalist; and then world-renowned bridge architect and all-around swell guy Conde McCullough. New Year COTW from WP:ORE[edit]

Happy New Year to all the Oregon WikiProject People. A big round of applause for everyone last year, we got a lot done. A thank you to everyone who helped with the last Collaboration of the Week, I saw a large number of articles in the unassessed section and our total number of articles is over 5000 (we were around 4000 in June when the assessment program finished the initial run) so I know at one person was busy tagging. This week we are back to a High importance Stub article the one and only max security prison, first prison, and only one with a death row in the state, the Oregon State Penitentiary. Oregon GA COTW[edit]

Howdy to WikiProject Oregon members, time for another edition of the Collaboration of the Week. As you may have already noticed, our flagship article Oregon is up for the third time as we make a push to get WP:GA status before going for WP:FA. Since this will take some time to get where it needs to be, this will be the COTW for more than just a week. On another note, just a general good job/pat on the back to the project for a great 2007, the first full year of the project. Tom Peterson says it time for Oregon COTW[edit]

Wake up! Wake up to a happy day! Says Tom Peterson. Greetings to the gang at WP:ORE, its time for another round of Collaboration of the Week. Last week was a very successful endeavor with great improvement to Oregon Swallowtail and Deuce Biglow Canyon Wind Farm. OK, so there’s no “e” but it makes me laugh. The Biglow production was so successful we got our first DYK out of it. So, let’s try for a second with the tallest building in the state, the Wells Fargo Center. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Clown COTW[edit]

Greetings once again to members of the best encyclopedia online about Oregon (aka WP:ORE)! Last week we improved Neil Goldschmidt to close to GA level, and moved the Wells Fargo Center from Stub to Start for the Collaboration of the Week. This week we’re clowning around with some bozo from Oregon, Pinto Colvig, and then in an attempt to garner another DYK, the rather stubby Cooper Spur. Old Buildings and Pictures[edit]

March 14 OR COTW[edit]

Hello again or welcome if you are new to WP:WikiProject Oregon! Last week we did a picture drive and a NRHP creation drive. It’s hard to track the picture results, but I know I saw quite a few pictures added, so great job. With NRHP we added 7 that I saw: Mitchell Recreation Area, Salem First United Methodist Church, Portland City Hall, Crater Lake Lodge, Central Library (Portland, Oregon), Watchman Lookout Station, and Alvin T. Smith House; with most now nominated for DYK’s! So great work everybody.

This week, its back to stubs with one of the largest newspapers in the state, The Register-Guard, and a request with Oregon Coast. Feel free to help with either one, and the paper article is so short a DYK should be pretty easy to get (just need 5X expansion). Elected Oregon[edit]

Hello fellow WikiProject Oregon folks and entities. Thanks to those who helped out with improving Vera Katz and History of Oregon during the last Collaboration of the Week! As you may have noticed, we have changed the banners a bit, but not our dedication to everything Oregon! This week, in honor of the political process, we have: Current Oregon Senate members & Current Oregon House members. Hopefully by November we can have an article on every current member of the Oregon Legislature. So feel free to turn a red link blue or expand an existing article. Since it is an election year, there should be plenty of newspaper stories. Plus, the state archives has this site that allows you to go back and see when they started serving and district info, plus at a minimum show they were a state legislator from a WP:RS. Juxtaposition COTW[edit]

Howdy Ho WikiProject Oregon! Time for another installment of Collaboration of the Week. The last few weeks we’ve knocked out quite a few articles of our current state legislators, and even a few former ones too. Great job to all those who helped make it happen. On a related note, we have had several DYKs from this and now have 53 DYKs so far this year (not counting multiples), less than four full months into the year. Last year we had a total of 83 DYKs for the entire year, and 7 combined for 2006 & 2005. So we are well on our way to another record year. Each time an article makes it to the main page as a DYK it will typically get an extra 1000 hits, which is usually far more than the typical 100 hits per month most minor articles receive. Wiki Loves Pride[edit]

You are invited! Wiki Loves Pride

You are invited to participate in Wiki Loves Pride, a global campaign to create and improve LGBT-related content at Wikipedia during the month of June, culminating with a multinational edit-a-thon on June 21. The project is being spearheaded by two organizers with roots in the Pacific Northwest. Meetups are being organized in some cities, or you can participate remotely. Wikimedia Commons will also be hosting an LGBT-related photo challenge.

In Portland, there are two ways to contribute. One is a photography campaign called "Pride PDX", for pictures related to LGBT culture and history. The Wiki Loves Pride edit-a-thon will be held on Saturday, June 21 from noon–4pm at Smith Memorial Student Union, Room 236 at Portland State University. Prior Wikipedia editing is not required; assistance will be available the day of the event. Attendees should bring their own laptops and cords.

International Women's Day Wikipedia Edit-a-thon, Oregon Jewish Museum, Thursday, March 7[edit]

The Oregon Jewish Museum and Center for Holocaust Education, in partnership with social practice artist Shoshana Gugenheim and as part of the Art+Feminism Project, will host the 2nd Annual International Women's Day Wikipedia Edit-a-thon to edit and/or create Wikipedia articles for Jewish women artists. The event will be held at the museum on Thursday, March 7 from 4 to 8 pm. Pre-registration is preferred but not required. Members of the public are invited to come to the museum to learn about the editing process, its history, its impact, and how to do it. Portland Art+Feminism Edit-a-thon: March 12, 2022[edit]

You are invited! An Art+Feminism Wikipedia edit-a-thon will be held in Portland, Oregon, on March 12, 2022. Learn more here!

Wikipedia is one of the most-visited sites on the internet—and it’s created by people who volunteer their time to write and edit pages. Learn how to edit Wikipedia and be a part of shaping our understanding of our world. In this workshop, volunteer Wikipedia editors will be on hand to train participants on how to get started editing pages and offer ideas for which pages you can pitch in to help improve. Show up at any point during the four hours to get started!

Also: Free burritos!! We will be providing vegan, vegetarian, and meat burritos from food cart Loncheria Las Mayos. Alder Commons has a large, fenced playground. Children are welcome! Some computers will be available to borrow, but if you have a laptop, please bring it to use. We will also be leading an online training for new editors at 11am-12pm PST. Please feel free to join that training if you are not able to show up IRL.
