Hi there[edit]

Hi, thanks for (partially) fixing my userbox align problem on my userpage :) - Any additional idea, why these boxes don't really align? Best greetings to Ireland, MikeZ 20:09, 10 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Supporting your opinion[edit]

I simply couldn't help but support your opinion in Wikipedia_talk: Jimbo_on_userboxes. Userboxes express what you are, they should be there. For example I couldn't know there was so much in common between what we think unless I saw all those userboxes there on your page. Long live userboxes!! (Ahnaf 11:51, 15 September 2006 (UTC))[reply]

WikiProject South Park[edit]

I have thought of creating a WikiProject for South Park since it is now near its' 10th anniversary and has more articles than ever. I feel we could all do the following things through this project:

  • Cleanup any short/poorly written/unformatted articles
  • Merge/lengthen the many character articles
  • Improve the South Park main page

I have seen your South Park fan template and wondered if you were interested in joining. If so reply to my talk page and I'll get back to you as quick as I can. Thanks, Mr. Garrison

Equestrian Link Repair[edit]

I am taking part in the Wikipedia Link Repair and links that direct to a disambiguation page need to be diverted to their appropriate article. Since there is no "Equestrian" article, it must be put in one of the four seperate articles listed on the disambiguation page. If you want, you can direct it to a more appropriate article. I believe that linking it to the Equestrianism article was most appropriate as that is what most previous links have linked itself to. If you believe that those two pages you listed should be put in another article, please redirect them yourself. I am only following the standards of the WikiProject, and if you want you can help out as well. Also, please remember to sign your posts so it is easier to contact you. Sorry for any trouble this may have caused, but if you still have any other questions please let me know so these articles can be improved for the better. --Nehrams2020 02:37, 7 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the compliment![edit]

Thanks Culnacreann for your kind words (sorry I haven't replied sooner) about the Spruce Meadows page I set up-that means a lot coming from a equestrian event fan such as yourself. You're right though, it's too bad they don't have a better listing of their winners (they do however have a large winner's post listing all past winners at their facility and I hope to complete the list when I go back). Last year's Master's was the first show jumping event I've ever seen live and I definitely plan to see more! SinisterLemon 02:30, 18 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Irish flag in your sig[edit]

As per preferences page Raw signature (If unchecked, the contents of the box above will be treated as your nickname and link automatically to your user page; if checked, the contents should be source code, including all links. Don't use images, templates, or external links in your signature) (Gnevin 01:30, 9 December 2006 (UTC))[reply]

Hi Culnacreann, to be honest I've never used this option for signing. I guess if you want a signature with special effects (like the flag you wish to display) you should go to your "my preferences", and uncheck the box "raw signature", so your flag shows as an image. I guess when you have this box checked you should only have a plain text signature with no images, etc. If you have any further problem, please, let me know. Hoverfish 15:35, 9 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

To clarify, raw signature means that whatever you type as your signature will be your signature. If you uncheck the box, then if you write a link, it'll make it a link instead of having the URL fully written out. So what you're during it right, because I can see your flag of Ireland in the signature. Mipchunk 17:29, 9 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Its not that i was picking on you or anything your the only user i've seen using an image . If you provide me with a list of users using image in their signature i would be more than happy to ask them to remove it (Gnevin 08:52, 20 December 2006 (UTC))[reply]

RE:[edit]

Yeah you could use that or of course you could use Tiocfaidh ar lá which means more or less the same thing. Where abouts are you from anyway? Derry Boi 11:23, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

the Troubles[edit]

I did 2+ deaths because I am one person and could not do all of them myself at this stage (I do have a life outside Wikiland). The ultimate intention would be to record all deaths, but others disagree and I have already had people seeking to remove all of the articles. See: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The Troubles in Moneymore and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The Troubles in Tynan. Of course, you could always give us a hand, rather than complaining that I haven't covered everything - Wikipedia is a collaborative effort and aticles can be expanded at any time. Look forward to your help. Ardfern 19:52, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Userboxes[edit]

I just came upon your page and saw some of your Userboxes were broken, I've fixed up some of them, I also liked some of them (some that I hadn't seen before), so I copied a few to my own page. Thanks for the Boxes, lol. --Hibernian 14:18, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright question[edit]

Hi - I got your mail. Basically you would have to use the pictures under our fair use rules. These are pretty complex - but it can be boiled down to two points:

  • Do we compete with the original source (i.e. do we potentially take money away from them by using their image) ? (fair use law)
  • Could we replace the image we something we created ourselves ? (wikipedia fair use policy)

If the horse is still active on the racing circuit then it wouldn't be fair use for us to use the images (since we could take a photograph of him racing). If the horse is dead/retired then you have a reasonable argument that the image would be fair use. Ideally the image would be a promotional photograph released by his owner to the public for promotional purposes. A horse/racing encyclopedia/history book or horse art book are more questionable - since we are an encyclopedia/history book and thus we would be competing with the original copyright holder. An art book likewise - it wouldn't be fairuse since we aren't talking about the picture - we are using it to illustrate it's subject. Post cards would probably be better - can you upload an example. If they are pre-1950s - they may be PD depending on exactly where you live and they were published. If you upload an example postcard (please add an attribution (who took the photo), copyright notices, dates of postage to the image description) I'll take a look. Sorry - it's really complicated. Greetings[edit]

Hey, how are you? I'm just curious what your relation to Pittsburgh is? Keep up the good work. --RiverHockey 19:05, 24 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, glad to hear from you. Hard to believe you could find your relatives after that long of a period. My family comes from Connemara, County Galway, a small town called Cornamona. How are things in Ireland these days? --RiverHockey 20:22, 25 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Pebbles[edit]

Thanks for your edit on the article about Pebbles. She was a great favourite of mine, I started the article and I was highly embarassed to realise that I'd tagged her as a bay! Thanks! Bcp67 15:49, 29 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

FEI WEG[edit]

Thanks for the thanks! Just started with all the editing yesterday, and plan on keeping it up until I can get all 6 games done, plus a rewrite of the main article. It's going to take a while though. haha. My username is simply my last name "Nurmsoo" and first initial "K". One of my friends once drew up a cartoon figure of myself and named it "Nurmsook", and it's stuck ever since. Happy wikipediaing! – Canada Nurmsook! 06:12, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sigh...[edit]

See you are also reverting things left by our new friend User:EBrunker. I count at least 15 articles that were hit. Busy person... I left a second round of warnings. I guess one bad brain fart isn't worth admin intervention, but just FYI that I left warnings too. Montanabw(talk) 22:14, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Flags gone missing[edit]

Apparently Wikipedia is having some problems with the thumbnails of some flags lately. I recommend that you purge the description page of any images that are not appearing, causing ill of its thumbnails to be regenerated. --TigerTjäder 22:38, 15 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

FYI, as I was exploring in the issue I found this at the Village Pump and thought it could interest you. --TigerTjäder 01:56, 16 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Invite[edit]

There is now a proposal at Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals#Horses for a new "parent" horse project. If anyone who looks at this page is interested, they are more than welcome to indicate their support there. Also, there is a discussion over at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Horse breeds about whether to merge that project in or keep it as a spinoff. Montanabw(talk) 04:48, 4 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Invite to WikiProject Equine[edit]

This is the official word: WikiProject Equine was quietly created by someone while the rest of us were endlessly discussing a WikiProject Horse. We have an official project! So let's go with it, and I am officially inviting you to formally join! Go to Wikipedia:WikiProject Equine, add your name to the list and see what you can contribute. If you haven't already joined Wikipedia:WikiProject Horse breeds or one of the other "child" or "affiliated" wikiprojects at WikiProject Equine, please feel free to do so. Just trying to tag articles with the new templates has awakened me to the fact that there are over 1000 equine articles in Wikipedia! (My watchlist alone is now at something like 700+) There's much to do and plenty for everyone! Thanks! Montanabw(talk) 09:28, 29 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Howdy Culnacreann[edit]

Thanks for the heads up on the article with the "free advertising", yes, I feel it is generally a good idea to take out names of horses anywhere except in articles either about the horse or where the name of the horse somehow matters deeply, such as the foundation sires of a breed or something of similar significance. If I don't get to it, feel free to fix it. Thanks! Montanabw(talk) 01:47, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Daivd Broome[edit]

I've turned David Broome (disambiguation) back to being a disambiguation page. KTC (talk) 00:10, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Horse murders article request for editors[edit]

Hello, all --

I realize that this is a distasteful subject to many in the horse field, especially among those with a love of show jumpers, but the John Edwards and Rielle Hunter affair currently in the news has opened up many, many questions on the subject of the late 20th century horse murders scandal. The reason for that, in case you don't know, is that Rielle Hunter was formerly Lisa Druck, whose father, James Druck conspired to have her beloved show jumper Henry the Hawk electrocuted to collect the insurance money on him. This tragedy formed the backgtound for a 1988 novel based on Lisa Druck's life, called Story of my Life by Jay McInerney. Later, in the early to mid 1990s, the scandal was exposed to the public through articles in the New York imes and Sports Illustrated, and then through a full-length book called "Hot Blood." An FBI investigation into the horse murders led to the conviction of a number of highly placed people in the show jumper and general equestrian sports world on charges of insurance fraud.

When Rielle Hunter's background was probed, due to her affair with John Edwards, it turned out that she and her horse were prominent victims of the horse murder insurance scam. But in trying to link this information up to her bio article, it turned up that there is no article on the subject of the horse murders at Wikipedia, doubtless because the scandal occured before the development of the world wide web. There is an article on the murder of the millionairess Helen Brach whose death, in 1977, was also connected to the horse murder scandal. An article was just created today, but it is not comprehensive in scope and needs to be expanded greatly lest it be deleted.

I am looking for a few good editors who have the brackground to write the horse murders article, and to link it to the Helen Brach murder, show jumping, and Rielle Hunter articles. No need to reply to me -- if you are interested, you know what to do. I will try to help, also, as best i can, but the topic is far from my usual field of writing, and i would prefer to see it handled by those with the greatest depth of knowledge on the subject.

I am posting this identical request to a number of horse-rleated talk pages, so you may see it more than once, for which i apologize in advance.

Sincerely, catherine yronwode Catherineyronwode (talk) 02:52, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This might be fun[edit]

Hey C, There is a high school student who did an upgrade of Banker Horse for a class project, collaborating with other wikipedia editors (like me). It is now listed at Peer review and because apparently the entire class flooded PR with about 20 simultaneous requests, they asked if WikiProject Equine would help review this particular article. Myself, and some of the other most active horse article editors helped a bit so are sort of COI on doing a neutral review, so I'm asking some of the other horse article editors if they'd like to take a look-see at the article and comment at the peer review page. This was a great kid to work with and a neat thing for a school to do as an assignment. So if you can help out, Thanks in advance! Montanabw(talk) 20:15, 20 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
