Double redirect project

Do you have a question on it? I saw that you backed out of editing one of the sections. If you have any questions, let me know. I'm here to help. --Woohookitty 10:43, 21 October 2005 (UTC)

I'll use that example. Basically, you see where it says "WWF The Main Event"? You want to highlight and copy that. And then you would click where it says "The Main Event results". It will then open up the page at here. You would then click on the "edit this page" link. You would see the page here. You would then replace "WWF The Main Event results" with "WWF The Main Event", which you had copied earlier. Save it and that's that. Once you get the hang of it, it's easy. Let me know if you need any help. Btw, about 1/3rd of the double redirects are not actually double redirects. You don't have to do anything with those. --Woohookitty 11:21, 21 October 2005 (UTC)

Great! We always need new janitors. :) --Woohookitty 12:46, 21 October 2005 (UTC)

Page move

Completely without announcement, an article was moved from its common English name Nidhogg to the old Norse version Níðhöggr, even though a proposal to move mythology articles to non-English spellings failed to gain consensus. You have expressed interest in simular page moves in the past. Please take a minute to look at this one. CDThieme 18:43, 28 November 2005 (UTC)

User redirects

Hi, Tom! Usually, I'll move info to a new user page if I see that the person responsible writing it has an account name similar to that of the title. Sadly, in my experience, many of these new accounts are created solely for adding vanity and nonsense. Even worse, there have been lots of newly registered users checking in with pure, unadulterated garbage as of late. Polite warning doesn't seem to help. Still, gotta assume good faith. Stay in touch and keep up the good work. - Lucky 6.9 02:06, 6 December 2005 (UTC)

Looks like the vandalism of that football player's article is coming from a single IP. Think he's due for a block under the three-revert rule. Thanks for letting me know. - Lucky 6.9 02:27, 6 December 2005 (UTC)

CSD tags

Hi Tom. Please be more careful when appending speedy deletion tags to Wikipedia pages. You really must review the page's history to ascertain whether the version you come to is just vandalism which can be reverted or not. Such was the case for Portal:Browse, a principal page for portals on Wikipedia. Happy editing, --cj | talk 03:52, 20 December 2005 (UTC)

Wikipedia Project

Hi, my name is Federico (alias Pain) and I am creating a section for nominating th best user page, I was wondering if you were interested in joining the project.

The project has just started, and we need help to spread the word and ameliorate it.

Thank you.

Tom, I can't tell you how nice it was to have gotten your note at the R/C Wiki. If you ever decide to take the plunge into "geekdom," I'll be there to catch you.  :)

It's reassuring to hear from a Wikipedian every once in awhile. There are still some nice people on this site. Others are not so nice and continue to be so. It's disheartening as hell and I don't need the aggravation.

OTOH, feel free to drop me a note at any time. Should anyone ask, please send them to the R/C Wiki if they'd like to e-mail me. All the best, the "Artist Formerly Known as Lucky 6.9" via 71.102.76.166 17:27, 24 March 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the message (dab template)

Thanks for the message about the dab template on Adler. I had to go check the MoS too. lol. I do a lot of work on dab pages and I thought it went on the bottom, but I wasnt 100% positive! :) Take care - grubber 17:15, 3 April 2006 (UTC)

I have restored the page. I would have done so for the other user if he had not used two swear words directed at me in his request. Please edit the page to make clear why it is notable, otherwise someone else may propose it for deletion (I will not, as I do not wish to become involved in a dispute with the other contributor).--File Éireann 09:28, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

Anon. suggestion xfrd from my user page to here

To Col tom If you try to change articles, you should edit yourself than just put some words saying that "this needs to change or delete". You suck! (suggestion was re: speedy nom for Music Morpher, recreated here per commitment to User:220.231.71.235

re: speedy delete/PROD

I took a look at the article you mentioned. You were right not to re-instate the PROD tag, since once that is challenged, the article needs to be deleted by some other mechanism, usually WP:AFD. The 'protocol', such as it is, for dealing with disappearing speedy tags is to replace them until you tire of the fun, really, as long as you remain certain of the article's speediness. When you get bored, then use some non-removable mechanism, like AfD or WP:CP as appropriate. In this particular case, I can't locate a specific site that the article is copied from; it seems to be very similar to a largeish number of advertising sites. But I think all of them are not commercial content providers, which is the very narrow scope of the speedy-copyvio. So I think you need to find the URL(s) from which the article is copied adn use {{copyvio}} instead. Failing that, an AfD would probably succeed since it is very clearly advertising. -Splashtalk 12:58, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

Copyvio issues 'outrank' AfD issues. If we have copyright infringing content, we can't retain it (unless permission is given) regardless of what an AfD debate might say. I found a number of other articles by the author(s) of this one, and have variously PRODded them. -Splashtalk 13:11, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
No problem. You might keep those pages on your watchlist until they are deleted; removal of a copyvio tag is revert-on-sightable, unless GFDL or public domain permission is established. -Splashtalk 13:14, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

Welcome to Esperanza!

Welcome, Col tom, to Esperanza, the Wikipedia member association! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.

Now that you are a member you should read the guide to what to do now or you may be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is the StressUnit, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. We will send you newsletters to keep you up to date. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.

In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Possibles.

I encourage you to take an active voice in the running of Esperanza. We have a small government system, headed by our Administrator general, Celestianpower, and guided by the Advisory Committee comprised of JoanneB, FireFox and Titoxd. The next set of elections will be in April, we will keep you updated about the results. Because you are a new member, you are not able to vote in these elections, but you will be more than welcome to take part in the elections in June.

If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact Celestianpower by email or talk page or the Esperanza talk page. Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). If you're new to IRC, you may find help at an IRC Tutorial written by one of our members. I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to work!

Barnstar

Thanks. The recognition is rewarding. I do have a few other barnstars floating about, which reminds me, they're not on my userpage anymore. I'll proudly find a place for them soon. :) -- Longhair 12:03, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

Aw shucks! Thanks Colonel :) — Донама 02:06, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
thanks for the recognition. My first barnstar, which I now feature proudly on my user page. I have just had a lull in my editing partly due to a lengthy holiday in Western Australia, but hope to resume my contributions shortly. Have collected quite a bit of field data and photos from my travels for both new and updates to existing geographical and biological articles.--Takver 01:09, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

WP:AN contributions

(copied from User talk:Tijuana Brass)

I'm concerned that your contributions to this discussion may not be in keeping with the guiding principles of Esperanza. As a relative n00b,I'm quite willing to accept that I may have missed some of the finer points, but I wonder if a less dismissive approach to the concept in general might not be appropriate. After all, this discussion can be viewed by all editors/users, not just the relevant party. With thanks, Colonel Tom 12:48, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

What makes you say that? Tijuana Brass¡Épa!-E@ 14:14, 25 April 2006 (UTC)
"if they keep going, {{personalproblems2}} could refer them to User talk:Crzrussian. Guarantee they won't come back after that. " doesn't seem to marry too well with "members strive to recognize situations where Wikipedians need help, hope, or reassurance. Esperanzians try to match those who desire help with those who offer it." Colonel Tom 16:06, 25 April 2006 (UTC)
Sorry that you see things that way. This was a case of a repeat vandal manipulating a serious subject because he thought it was "fun" — which may be why some people may not have reacted as you expected to. I think that reading over my comments in the thread, along with other things I've done, would make it abundantly clear how I stand on the issue — the {{suicidehelp}} template was made primarily to address the need that you and a couple other editors pointed out.
There's a balance to be struck between goodwill and playing into vandals hands... for that matter, there's one between taking Wikipedia seriously without taking oneself too seriously. Tijuana Brass¡Épa!-E@ 17:32, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

Hi Tom. Don't know if you've followed the suicide conversation much — not a whole lot has changed lately — but the {{suicidehelp}} template is up for deletion. Thought it may be of interest to you. Tijuana Brass¡Épa!-E@ 06:53, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for dropping by the TfD to add your two cents — I value your opinion on the issue, so it's good to have your support. Let me know if you come up with any ideas concerning the matter that would work better... I've been bouncing around the idea of having a separate alert page on Esperanza for issues like this one, which could use a friendly talk page message and suggestion of better resources to try. What do you think? Tijuana Brass¡Épa!-E@ 18:29, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

Hell Col tom. I just wanted you to know that I took the liberty to add ribbons to your barnstars awarded section. They are really cool looking blue ones. I hope you don't mind. If you do, I won't do it again. Best, Kukini 15:17, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

Thanks again!

I got your latest note at the R/C wiki and thought I'd answer here as well. Thank you so much for helping out and feel free to pass the word around here to any like-minded users who'd like to help out over there. I just e-mailed Phroziac with my concerns about the site's stagnation. Any and all fresh blood would be greatly appreciated. I suppose there aren't many radio control hobbyists who enjoy writing as much as we do.  :) Anyway, thank you again and feel free to drop by over there anytime. Since I'm a bureaucrat, I can make you an admin if that will help seal the deal. As for Wikipedia, don't let it burn you out. It's all too easy to do, believe me. For every one person that cares about the project there are ten who are out to vandalize it, flame it, troll it and otherwise ruin it. Wikipedia IMO is the Internet's most noble cause as well as its most chaotic and crazy site. Have a great weekend and stay in touch. The former Lucky 6.9 via 71.102.76.166 16:02, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

License tagging for Image:Princess Superstar.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Princess Superstar.jpg. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 04:06, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #3

The Administrator Coaching program is a program aimed at preparing Wikipedians for Adminship or helping them understand the intricacies of Wikipedia better. Recently, changes have been made to the requirements of coachees. Please review them before requesting this service.
This would be something like the Welcoming Committee, but for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. Some might like suggestions about how to learn vandal patrol, or mentoring on taking an article to featured status, or guidance with a proposal they plan to make at the Village Pump, for example. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.
The Stressbusters are a subset of Esperanza aiming to investigate the causes of stress. New eyes on the situation are always welcome!
Note from the editor
As always, MiszaBot handled this delivery. Thank you! Also, congratulations go to Pschemp, Titoxd and Freakofnurture for being elected in the last elections! An Esperanzial May to all of the readership!
  1. Posting logs of the Esperanza IRC channel are explicitly banned anywhere. Violation of this rule results in deletion and a ban from the channel.
  2. A disclaimer is going to be added to the Esperanza main page. We are humans and, as such, are imperfect.
  3. Various revisions have been made to the Code of Conduct. Please see them, as the proposal is ready to be ratified by the community and enacted. All members will members to have to re-confirm their membership after accepting the Code of Conduct.
  4. Referendums are to be held on whether terms of AC members should be lengthened and whether we should abolish votes full stop.
  5. Admin Coaching reform is agreed upon.

I do regret

...that I was so curt with User:Burg Hambler. I totally take your point about it -- I over-reacted and it really was quite uncalled for. I never doubted his good intentions or meant to insult him; I was just exasperated, esp. reading on his user-page that he rewrote stuff he knew nothing about. I have amended my message to him and hopefully this is what he will see. Regards, ImpuMozhi 19:07, 13 May 2006 (UTC)
