Swiss cheese[edit]

Hello. I was just looking at your recent edit to Swiss cheese and see that you changed the 2014 number from 297.8 million pounds to 397.8 million pounds, which I thought was a typo, but I also see you added a new source. I can't fully see that source without a subscription, but from what I can see, it does look they are showing a much higher bar for 2014 on their graph. Is the 397.8 number accurate? The old source definitely says 297.8 (up 1.1% from 2013), and 397.8 seems like too much of a coincidence to me. Station1 (talk) 23:14, 18 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, I had problems with the previous source. And now, similar to your experience, the new source is paywalled. It did indeed show 397.8, though that was an outlier. I'll edit again with a more reliable source. Chumpih t 23:34, 18 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
OK, that's done. Hope it's acceptable. Thanks for raising the question. Chumpih t 23:42, 18 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Looks good now. Station1 (talk) 01:26, 19 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Chumpih. We were chatting on the LastPass page a few weeks ago here regarding some balance issues. It seemed like you agreed with my assessment and nobody else has since chimed in. I wanted to check-in and see if it was still on your radar? Is there anything I could do to be helpful in balancing the page? Appreciate your time. Best regards. AmyMarchiando (talk) 18:07, 31 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the prompt, @AmyMarchiando. It's a bit quiet over there, which perhaps isn't ideal. Would be happier if another editor was involved, but here we are. I'll post an any objections..., and in the absence of a response in a week or so, I'll make some further edits.
And may I commend you on your stance and approach here. Most appreciated. Chumpih t 03:09, 5 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Chumpih, I wanted to check with you on this rejection. The subject has adequate coverage and references. These include books with ISBN numbers referenced in various leading global libraries, publishing houses, independent global refence websites such as JSTOR.org and worldcat.org. His works and bio are also referenced on websites of publishing houses and language web portals like rekhta.org for which citations have been provided. As an administrator, his career has references in news media as well. I could not see the entire bio (except for being refenced on publishing houses websites under the biography of the author). However, this is not different as compared to many Indian administrators which have wiki pages where a lot of the career details are not publicly cited. Examples - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V._P._Joy, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amitabh_Rajan.

The Career sheets of all IAS officers are available on Government of India portal - https://supremo.nic.in/knowyourofficerIAs.aspx where the details are available after adding basic information like name and batch (1970 in this case). Unfortunately, the resultant weblink does not get retained as a citation.

Look forward to understanding how this draft can be improved. Many thanks. YRSing (talk) 15:14, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks YRSing for reaching out, but apologies - I may only be able to help a little. The criteria for acceptance can seem a little arcane and obscure, but it's worth checking out wp:note and WP:NBIO. If there were articles written about the subject, that are significant, independent of the subject, in reliable publications, then several of those should be cited in the draft article, so a reviewer can affirm that there is notability. The 'independent' aspect is important: if a direct employer or publisher has details of the subject then that might not be sufficiently independent. Chumpih t 22:11, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Appreciate the colour Chumpih, thank you. I looked at the links you referred to. From these, I get the sense that the subject meets the following guidelines ( I have highlighted the portions from the guidelines that seem to apply):
From wp:note -We consider evidence from reliable and independent sources to gauge this attention.
From WP:NBIO - People are presumed notable if they have received significant coverage in multiple published secondary sources that are reliable, intellectually independent of each other, and independent of the subject.
If the depth of coverage in any given source is not substantial, then multiple independent sources may be combined to demonstrate notability'; trivial coverage of a subject by secondary sources is not usually sufficient to establish notability.
In the case of the subject as an author, there have been multiple citations in independent sources of high repute like JSTOR, worldcat as well as bio in a couple of .org websites. As an administrator, there are several news publications as well as government websites that have been referenced.
I would agree that the longer career bio link in Government of India Supremo website seems to be breaking down. However, this seems to be the case for several other wiki bios of Indian administrators that I included in my question. When I checked, no complete bios could be found in independent sources.
Given my relative lack of understanding, I seek your guidance in understanding what kind of amendments need to be made for getting this thru. Thanks! YRSing (talk) 00:32, 20 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Chumpih, awaiting your feedback, thank you. YRSing (talk) 07:24, 30 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
There's some guidance WP:SIRS that suggests how to consider the sources for organisations, but for individuals (per WP:GNG) the situation isn't so different. It's the same criteria as you mention in your comment above.
Generally pages will get accepted for creation when it is obvious that there are multiple, satisfactory sources, per the criteria already identified. Perhaps also consider WP:THREE to show the best ones that are clearly independent, reliable, secondary and significant.
I suggest you follow up in the talk on the draft page. Perhaps demonstrate and justify there that there are several sources clearly meet the 4 standards: significant, independent, reliable and secondary. Chumpih t 22:55, 30 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks much @Chumpih. I missed your comment earlier and hence the delayed response. As per your advise, I have significantly shortened the article focusing on the subject as a poet/ author (for which their are many citations) vs as an administrator. I have also followed the guidelines that you advised me to look at. Leave this with you please. 122.11.246.7 (talk) 10:48, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks much @Chumpih. I missed your comment earlier and hence the delayed response - apologies. As per your advise, I have significantly shortened the article focusing on the subject as a poet/ author (for which their are many citations) vs as an administrator. For his role as an administrator I have therefore incorporated your feedback that - " If the depth of coverage in any given source is not substantial, then multiple independent sources may be combined to demonstrate notability'
I have also followed the guidelines such as @WP:THREE that you advised me to look at. Leave this with you please. Thank you. YRSing (talk) 11:28, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
OK, so please, on the Draft talk:Ajit Raizada page please, can you list the WP:THREE best sources? Chumpih t 10:07, 30 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Chumpih - of course. There are several citations added in reference sections. I am annotating a few here for you information.
1. refers to the subject as a retired civil servant being appointed as SEC - https://www.freepressjournal.in/bhopal/bhopal-post-of-mp-sec-becomes-home-to-rehabilitate-retired-ias-officers
2. an interview with the subject in Dainik Bhaskar, the top selling Hindi daily in India. This post retirement interview speaks about his journey and identifies him as an officer of the 1970 batch of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS)- https://www.bhaskar.com/news/prior-to-the-environment-of-education-in-the-house-ias-raizada-teacher-020539-2663234.html
3. an obituarial coverage of a former Chief Minister Jogi. He was also a 1970 batch officer as well before joining politics and Dr Raizada has been interviewed and quoted as his batchmate - https://www.freepressjournal.in/bhopal/as-an-ias-officer-ajit-jogi-was-always-collector-writes-nitendra-sharma
4. Two different press articles referring to the subject as a senior civil servant and an officer of the IAS - https://zeenews.india.com/entertainment/musicworld/ne-yo-spotted-bieber-s-talent_74961.html/amp and https://www.hindustantimes.com/india/dpc-for-promotion-to-cs-grade-held/story-01zKsk5OLQVfKG184kpZFI.html
5. Finally references to the subject as Collector/ District Magistrate on government websites. This position is necessarily filled by IAS officers as referred in the wiki article here - District magistrate. The references are - https://ujjain.nic.in/en/dm-succession-list/ and https://rajgarh.nic.in/en/collector-directory/. The subject also features as the State Election Commissioner in the government website for the Election Commission (referenced as well). This website is the source of a wiki article which also lists him as a former SEC - Madhya Pradesh State Election Commission
Thank you! YRSing (talk) 01:06, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Interesting, but this is not so useful here. Please put the best 3 sources (per WP:3REFS) over on the talk page, perhaps under a section called ==The [[WP:3REFS]] best sources==, as an aid and justification for page creation. The criteria for being significant, independent and reliable (per WP:NBIO and WP:GNG ) should hopefully be known to you now. Once this is done, I suggest you follow the guidance over at WP:AfC - I don't think I can help you much further. Chumpih t 03:38, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Chumpih - apologies - I should have clarified. The major plank of the subject is the notability as an author and a poet and not as an administrator. For the former, multiple reliable, independent sources have been cited (1-3 and from 22-37) in the reference list. These include google books, amazon, worldcat.org and libraries like Library of Congress, National Library of Australia as well as individual subject specific websites on history, political science and anthropological subjects, His works have also been cited on various wiki pages on historical subjects such as - Avanti (region)#cite note-8, Yadava , Heheya Kingdom
Specifically, as a poet, he is cited on the websites of Manjul Publishing House Pvt. Ltd., a leading national publisher in India - https://manjulindia.com/suraj-ke-aansu-hindi.html as well as on Hindwi, a leading global repository of Hindi poetry -https://www.hindwi.org/poets/ajit-raizada/kavita as well as several direct and indirect references.
In line with other wiki articles on individuals, I have followed a particular format to write about the subject. Citations in my comment earlier today were mainly to use WP:THREE to support references to his career as an administrator to build the article. Trust this is good, thank you. YRSing (talk) 06:39, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
adding another comment (please read sequentially after my comment earlier today on the subject being an author and poet as the primary plank of the article). The format and structure of the article is similar to other profiles of Indian poets/ authors who have been career civil servants and members of the IAS. Sharing here for easy reference - V. P. Joy , Kalyan Kumar Chakravarty , Anil Swarup YRSing (talk) 12:33, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Chumpih - just following up. Pls do go thru my additional comments on March 31st. Thanks YRSing (talk) 03:06, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Chumpih. I wanted to check-in on if you had any input regarding Talk:LastPass#Poor_citations from a couple months ago regarding the heavy use of primary sources, and sources that are misrepresented, in the "Security incidents" section of the LastPass page. Since I have a conflict of interest, I'll rely on your impartiality, if you're willing to give my comments a close lookover. Thanks for all your participation so far. Best regards. I think that you meant to nominate the article for deletion due to lack of notability. You nominated the talk page for miscellany for deletion, probably by accident. If you wanted to nominate the article for deletion, please be sure that you are viewing the article and not the talk page when you click the XFD tab. By the way, it's an easy mistake that I have seen happen before, and easily corrected because the editors at MFD have seen it happen before. I am not nominating the article for deletion, only because I am letting you do that. Robert McClenon (talk) 19:49, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much for this information! Totally appreciated, and quite correct. I'll proceed as you suggest. Chumpih t 19:54, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
