(I withdrew from the article as copyeditor after that edit. I notified the responsible copyeditor on their Talk re my displeasure, then deleted said comments out of frustration. I've been trying to fix it - I know there are issues, but I don't like this drama. He said "I find it ludicrous to debate this any further, and, for that reason, I therefore resign my editorship of this page, as well as all of wikipedia. I wish you all the best in finding someone who can make this article meet the impossible standards you have set forth." So, yes, there are prose issues - GA need not be "perfect", but you and I know that I end up failing more than half of all GANs I get. For Editor retention - I'll glad help fix up things with it, but I am not out to drive someone away from Wikipedia who's done substantial work on a subjective matter. FA can be brutal, GA can for those unfamiliar with it, but I don't go about trying to be a pain in the ass and lose a good editor when it seems some other third party thinks its off and is giving the wrong impression. Number of sources or inline citations means nothing if they are broken, invalid or otherwise, but the copyediting needing to be done is precious little in comparison to the page's total construction. Thanks for your reply. There are lots of admins who wouldn't flinch at "driving someone away from Wikipedia who's done substantial work" (I know, I've met a few). Eight commas in one sentence! (That's hardly "impossible standards", or "not perfect".) You seem to be saying GAC passes articles if a submitter throws a fit and threatens to quit. That doesn't say much about standards, does it. I agree with many of your (semi?)-automated upgrades and believe that we underuse Start and C grades, at least for biographies.

Do you use a count of characters? Barbro Lindgren seems to be such a misjudgment ([diff]).

What do you think of Bjarne Reuter, where there was a bit more info in December and I expanded a moment ago. More to follow soon, I expect; here's your version.[1] That is about the minimum I would willingly call Start and in the past I haven't removed stub tags that I notice short of twice so much information in prose.

(FWIW these are quite notable writers, finalists for the international Hans Christian Andersen Award in 2004 at least, which is why I expect to add some more this month.)

Singapore legal GANs

Chris, back on January 5, Hildanknight nominated sixteen articles as GANs, all related to Singapore legal topics of one kind or another. On January 20, you took on all sixteen to review, saying you'd throttle the pace of the reviews as Hildanknight had requested. You've only begun six of them in the sixty days since, which is taking throttling to the extreme.

So far, one has been listed, one has been failed, four are on hold with a review at least having been begun, and ten are not yet started. All fourteen have been under review for over sixty days. This is quite long by GAN standards, unusually so.

At this point, unless you are planning to start the rest of the reviews over the next several days, some or all should be put back in the reviewing pool. In my opinion, anyone nominating that many articles at once—and Hildanknight nominated another eight articles on March 1, all of which seem to be about Singapore architecture—has to be willing to deal with the reviews when and if they are chosen. If not, then they shouldn't be making nominations in such extremely large chunks. I hope we can see some significant movement on these in the very near future. Thank you. A week has passed since I requested his followup on Talk:Exclusion of judicial review in Singapore law/GA1 (which may be ready to pass) and Talk:Representative democracy in Singapore/GA1. Understanding that real life may slow down the reviews, I asked Chris if he would be open to having a co-reviewer for the group of Singapore legal nominations. Hildanknight, I am not interested in taking on these articles. My concern was that fourteen remained under review after two months had passed, and for ten the work had not commenced: this is quite excessive. Chris, if you think you aren't going to get to all the rest in a timely fashion, let's put them back in the reviewing pool, or as many as you don't think you'll have time for. Should it be all ten, or would you like to retain one or two?

There's also another issue here: the "throttling" request. It's generally understood that a nominator should be ready to deal with reviews as they come in: nominating several at once means that you should be willing to handle the rush should it occur—reviewers are generally willing to give extensions if the nominator has several active reviews running in parallel and asks for more time because of it. Hildanknight, you've now nominated two large sets: the sixteen legal ones in January, and the nine about buildings (and one road) at the beginning of this month. This is a lot to bring all at once. It's far better to submit them in ones and twos. BlueMoonset (talk) 15:51, 23 March 2014 (UTC)

@BlueMoonset: Ironically, I nominated them all at once due to the huge backlog. On average, a nomination sits in the queue for three months. If I nominated these articles one by one, the reviews would take four years to complete. Hence I nominated them all at once and requested throttling to avoid extreme situations, such as reviewers placing six nominations on hold in a single day. I agree that the current pace of reviews is too slow. Two reviews per week would be ideal. These are not drive-by nominations from a new editor and I hope you respect my track record (thirteen GAs written from scratch, seven GAs from polishing work by others). --Hildanknight (talk) 18:30, 23 March 2014 (UTC)

• Hildanknight, it looks like Wizardman has recently put the articles that hadn't been started back into the to-be-reviewed pool. My suggestion would be that you remove the "throttling" message: it's likely to discourage reviewers from taking on the reviews. Since you can handle two a week, the odds of them being taken quicker than that are vanishingly small, and if reviews do happen to pile up, people will give you slack if you let them know the circumstances. WikiCup 2014 March newsletter

A quick update as we are half way through round two of this year's competition. WikiCup newcomer Godot13 (submissions) (Pool E) leads, having produced a massive set of featured pictures for Silver certificate (United States), an article also brought to featured list status. Former finalist Adam Cuerden (submissions) (Pool G) is in second, which he owes mostly to his work with historical images, including a number of images from Urania's Mirror, an article also brought to good status. 2010 champion (Pool C) is third overall, thanks to contributions relating to naval history, including the newly featured Japanese battleship Nagato. Cliftonian (submissions), who currently leads Pool A and is sixth overall, takes the title for the highest scoring individual article of the competition so far, with the top importance featured article Ian Smith.

With 26 people having already scored over 100 points, it is likely that well over 100 points will be needed to secure a place in round 3. Recent years have required 123 (2013), 65 (2012), 41 (2011) and 100 (2010). Remember that only 64 will progress to round 3 at the end of April. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page; if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points equally. ChrisGualtieri, I've been wrestling with the same process of establishing a standard for all NRHP in West Virginia. Each of the articles includes the totality of all information available on the subject, so I've been trying to find a form and structure that works whether there exists a little or a lot of information. It looks like you have a good standard thus far--I would only add more information on the subject's location/surrounding environment and expand your lead paragraphs so that they are more comprehensive. Countering systemic bias in architecture coverage

Well, getting them from other countries is more about finding the material and I am on a tight time-table before all the USA ones go into the national archives. This is much easier than say the United Kingdom or Singapore. As you probably notice, I am picking relatively low-hanging fruit in the form of museums, historical events, minor monuments and such. Where almost everything ever written or covering the work can be easily found, collated and fact-checked with my already on-hand sources. I just got 700 new documents for another state and some 20,000 "properties" for another, but this is far beyond what a single Wikipedian can do. Though I could review the material, the work is generally of high quality and requires only a few fixes before passing. If these are nationally significant I tend to have much higher standards for broadness though. ChrisGualtieri (talk) 15:50, 23 April 2014 (UTC)

Perhaps the tendency of editors to go for "low-hanging fruit" causes imbalances in coverage. If you are interested, you could choose between reviewing the articles yourself, directly copyediting them or helping fix issues raised by reviewers. Most of the articles are short and would not take too much of your time, but they do need attention from a native speaker of English (and a foreigner could identify confusing local terms). In general, the articles by Aldwinteo are in better shape than the older (before the GA process started) works of Sengkang. I didn't mean it in a bad way, but things like clothing i.e. socks and very broad topics are amongst the most difficult to source and complete and same with very complex structures that have a great body of sources to comb through. I have a good relationship with the libraries in my area and groups all over the nation, but actually producing content is something that should be balanced with your own abilities. I am new to architecture articles - I rather do something easier to understand and requiring only 10-12 sources of decent size instead of the complete record logs of national monuments and icons. Besides, editor conflicts pop up with them far more often and I want to avoid conflicts over really simple and basic details. I've found that people who do not have good knowledge of a topic or access to the sources are a bane to content production when they take an ideological or personal stake in the project. Article Questions

Hi Chris,

I saw that you had edited the article Imaginal Psychology and have something I'm wondering if you could help with on that page.

I'm in the communications department at Meridian University. We offer psychology, business and education degrees and are based in the San Francisco bay area. Someone (most likely a disgruntled former student) appears to be trying to defame us on this page. I've tried to change this but it has been reverted.

You'll notice that the "See Also" section of the article states that we are an "unaccredited, for-profit corporation." This is not the case. We are accredited by the California Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education among other organizations. The "for-profit corporation" descriptor is applicable to most institutions. Would university not be more accurate?

Additionally, the article states our former name which does not seem relevant.

Any advice or assistance you could provide on this matter would be appreciated.

See Also sections should not be used in this manner and I much rather not get into the middle of a spat with some editors, but your argument is good and the clear negative nature is apparent. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not Facebook or some blog. With that being said, the page is a copyright violation. I will opt for its deletion - which will both the attacks off and prevent it from being a platform. I'd prefer an article on Meridian University and to include this as a note, but I see only bad things arising from the subject of Imaginal Psychology without more objective and widespread coverage. Since it won't stand on its own, and its got no place to merge to - deletion is the only option at this point. Which does resolve the issue as well. ChrisGualtieri (talk) 05:25, 29 April 2014 (UTC)

Haley Farm

Nice work on Haley Farm - that's an area I used to hang around a lot. The pedestrian bridge to Bluff Point, as I just noted, is built atop the Groton and Stonington Street Railway abutments. The line used to go through the corner of Haley Farm; it's now the G&S Trolley Trail on that side of the tracks. I'm not sure if that's worth mentioning in the article other than the brief link.
