My RfA[edit]

Thank you very much for promoting me to an administrator. I have my new dustbuster, and it is ready to be put to good use.  Denelson83  23:24, 14 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

this month's list of re-active admins[edit]

Hi - Not sure if you like me letting you know about these or not, but this month's list of re-active admins can be found by looking at this diff. -- Rick Block (talk) 21:15, 15 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Justinc's RfA[edit]

I fixed Justinc's RfA to show that the request was successful. You originally closed it as failed, but I thought that an approximately 95% support ratio, and the fact that you sysopped him yourself, are a pretty good sign that it was supposed to be closed as successfull. Inactive Bureaucrat[edit]

Ha! When I typed up that RfB you were an inactive bureaucrat. Don't smite me! ;-) Redwolf24 (talkHow's my driving?) 19:18, 16 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

A lovely watch in light of your service. Redwolf24 (talkHow's my driving?) 02:02, 17 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Admin involved in "vandalism"[edit]

I'm just tired now, so I'll keep it simple. I was involved in tagging some images uploaded by User:SlimVirgin as copyvios (tagged as fair use) but he keeps reverting to his fair use tag regularly across all his images. This is a blatant case of Avoidant vandalism as per Wikipedia:Vandalism#Types_of_vandalism. I tried to reason with him that a few images being listed as fair use is ok, but listing ALL of them is not. For eg. he's uploaded 1/2 dozen images on animal rights when 1-2 would do the job, a case of excess propaganda? You'll find that he has reverted all my edits containing the "imagevio" tag. I've reported it accordingly in vandalism in progress.

The problem is I noticed just now he's an administrator and I suspect he'll have his way, so I thought of reaching for an active bureaurcrat like you. All my conversations are visible in his and my talk pages and I'm currently fed up that some here in Wikipedia are starting to abuse their powers since they feel they can't be blocked. I've deleted similar articles and images as per copyvio, but this user is an admin, so pl. help. Idleguy 12:09, 17 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Adminship[edit]

Thanks for informing me, and thanks for the promotion! This is the part where I'm required to promise to be good and so forth, isn't it? Well, I plan to keep my head down for a little while and do nothing controversial. Thanking all those users will take the best part of an hour as it is. Once again, thanks; all the best, Rob Church Talk | FAHD 13:11, 17 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Bringing in old edits[edit]

Greetings. Is there a way to merge my anonymous contributions into my existing edit contribution history? I've found about 2 dozen anon edits that were mine by identifying articles I started, beginning with this cluster of edits, followed by [2],[3](biggest group), [4],[5],[6]. Cheers! Hey there, I would be grateful for your assistance in countering the systematic vandalism of a user on the List of Dictators page. An administrator is blanking the page every few hours, without any AfD or anything. He has apparently been doing this for a few years.

Yours,

jucifer 23:03, 23 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

This list has been nominated for AfD by User:172.

I noted that it May you engaged on the talk page and thought you might like an update.

  • Some would like to delete the list because it is "POV since dictator is undefinable"
  • Others argue that the page violates WP:NOR since agreeing consensually to follow a universal dictionary definition is original research. 'Nuff said.
  • Some have argued that it should be deleted because it is POV to call anyone a dictator. Which is actually a required argument for deleting this list when you think about it. Otherwise why not just pare it down to a common denominator?
  • Pushed into a logical corner some have argued that since POV could be added, the list should be deleted. Which would apply to every article in wiki.

Dictator is not a hard word to define - nor is it in any way controversial amongst dictionaries, encyclopedias, historians, the media or the public or on wiki, where it is used 27,700 times. So clear is the meaning that dictators and their supporters often concede the "dictator" part and merely add "benevolent".

It is long established that POV in an article is in any case no grounds for deletion - merely for its improvement.

People also seem unclear that NPOV is achieved through consensus not some theoretical construct that exists or not.

If there are such things as "dictators" they the list must stay, at least in some form. If it is deleted this implication is that describing anyone as a dictator is always POV. This of course would not only be egregious POV, but is relativism beyond any reasonable point, defies a universal understanding of a word amongst historians and the public - even David Irving.

The spectre of wikipedia refusing to list Hitler+Mussolini et al as dictators hangs over us. Please consider this matter.

Yours,

Linuxbeak RfB[edit]

Hello! Just a quick personal aside, I was logged into the #wikipedia IRC when Linuxbeak's RfB was posted. If you have access to chat logs, you'll see that he wasn't doing any campaigning. As I recall, someone else saw and mentioned it, and a bunch of people ran off to vote. The nominee seemed a bit embarrassed by the attention, and I hope that your vote is predicated on the merits (or lack of) his qualifications and not the "gang bang voting" that he had no control over. Best regards, CHAIRBOY () 07:08, 14 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Adminship[edit]

On June 28, 2005 you were the bureaucrat who processed my promotion to admin. [7] I am now planning to change my username and would like the administrative "tag" to be transferred to that username. Due to the excessive number of edits that I've made I will not be dong a name change, I'll just stop using the existing account. Does this sound OK to you? Is so, would you be able to perform the adminship transfer? Cheers, -Willmcw 04:32, 16 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the quick response. I'll pester Angela. Cheers, -Willmcw 04:53, 16 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

PMA no longer an admin?[edit]

Hi - I just updated WP:LA based on recent activity and noticed user:PMA isn't marked as a sysop in the database anymore. I moved him to the former administrators list, but didn't add an explanation (since I don't know it). This must have happened in the last month. -- Rick Block (talk) 20:59, 17 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Bureaucratship[edit]

Nice, a not-canned response :-) I will definitely seek advice from yourself as well as the other bureaucrats in the upcoming days. I noticed that there existed a "bureaucrat noticeboard". Is this actively used? Thanks! Linuxbeak (drop me a line) 02:42, 21 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Woods and the third rail[edit]

Thanks for tidying up the paragraph on Granville Woods in Third rail. I'd been trying to make it as neutral as possible while retaining accuracy, but couldn't get it quite right. Your version is a big improvement. --Mpk 18:42, 25 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Private discussions with non-bureaucrats[edit]

Greetings. I think I may be misinterpreting the question a bit. I don't make promises lightly, and I hold to them very legalistically when I do. I'd like to ask you a few questions to maybe clear things up.

Situation 1: A user asks me, in private, a general question about promotions. Do you feel it would be inappropriate for me to respond?

Situation 2: After I decline to promote someone, a user accuses me of having a grudge against this person, confusing me with a person of a similar user name. Do you feel it would be inappropriate for me to respond to clear up the confusion?

Situation 3: A user asks me in private to please promote someone who does not have consensus, due to the user, say, dying of cancer and making a dying wish. Do you feel it would be inappropriate for me to respond, saying "I cannot take that into consideration."?

I'm guessing none of these are what was meant by the question, but for my peace of mind, could you, er, explain it all? :) Thanks, – Quadell (talk) (bounties) 19:14, 29 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

George Griswold Frelinghuysen[edit]

Can you do me a favor? The article George Griswold Frelinghuysen was deleted and I want to use the information in the article Ballantine. It it possible to email it to me?

Thank you[edit]

Thank you for the notice of the RFA outcome. I can now work on the Selected anniversaries, but it will have to be a gradual return. I noticed some articles had the requisite dates somehow deleted in the months since they were selected. --Ancheta Wis 17:03, 30 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Concerns[edit]

Hi Cecropia - I have not seen this before on Wikipedia, but this IP User talk:64.12.116.14 has posted a number of posts to get attention towards the recent RfB. See for example [8] [9] [10]. I am not sure what to do about this, so if you could help out, that would be most wonderful. Thank you! --HappyCamper 05:52, 31 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

My Adminship[edit]

Thanks for taking care of the technical issue of making me a sysop. I think though, you may have one too many ~ in your signature as your name didn't show up on my talk page. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 20:48, 31 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
