2001 Australian Grand Prix

Hello:

The copy edit you requested from the Guild of Copy Editors of the article 2001 Australian Grand Prix has been completed.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Since you are heavily involved in motor racing articles could I ask if there is a consensus on recording times in the body of an article? Is the correct format 1 minute 23.217 seconds or 1:23.217? I found both in some articles I checked although the majority of times seem to be in the former format. Thanks.

Best of luck with the GAN.

Regards,

Twofingered Typist (talk) 12:41, 6 July 2019 (UTC)

  • @Twofingered Typist: No consensus has been reached on how to write lap times in the body of an article though personally I would write it out in the format of 1 minute 23.217 for readers who are unfamiliar with motor racing. MWright96 (talk) 07:30, 10 July 2019 (UTC)
Thanks very much for this information. Cheers Twofingered Typist (talk) 12:04, 10 July 2019 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of 2003 Budweiser Shootout

Followup

Hey @MWright96: A GOCE coordinator, Reidgreg (talk · contribs), helped me review my edits on your requested GAN, Porsche 919 Hybrid. He has made some additional edits, and I've made numerous minor edits in accordance with his feedback. Feel free to check my talk page and the history of Porsche 919 Hybrid for details.

There are a few minor things I wanted to discuss with you. Quotes from Reidgreg are in blue, and quotes from the article are in turquoise.

  • Its engine was a two-litre (120 cu in) 90-degree angled mid-mounted V4 mono-turbocharged petrol power unit
    • Is "angled" necessary? A similar sentence shows up later and does not have "angled". (As Reidgreg speculated, if the 90-degree angle is the angle of the pistons making the "V", it might be better reordered as mid-mounted 90-degree V4.)
    • If there's anything I can do to reduce the length of this phrase, let me know.
  • Per Reidgreg: Do you think the acronym FIA should be expanded/defined? FIA is its common name in English, and FIFA usually isn't expanded (though that's an other stuff exists argument).
  • Per Reidgreg: Horsepower is used as primary when describing the automotive power but kilowatts is primary when discussing the electric motor. I believe these are the ways they are normally discussed, though it is inconsistent in the article. This may be a case where the needs of the subject/article can override the MOS guideline.
  • The brake discs were made from internally ventilated light-alloy carbon ceramic materials and features power steering.
    • What features power steering? The brake discs?
  • The front system utilised a 185 kW (248 hp) motor–generator (MGU) on the front axle; when braking, kinetic energy was converted into electrical energy, which was stored in water-cooled A123 Systems lithium-ion battery packs that were installed centrally in the passenger side, eliminating turbo lag.
    • Per Reidgreg: The end part "eliminating turbo lag" might not be clear. It might fit better if moved down a sentence or two. I assume this means that the stored electrical energy is used to power the motor–generator during initial acceleration (following a braking manoeuvre) in order to compensate for the turbo lag (turbochargers are powered by the exhaust and so have a responsiveness delay when depressing the accelerator).
  • Finally, Reidgreg noted that the racing history section is more than half of the article. He suggests summarizing it more succinctly, keeping the focus on the performance of the article's subject, and to be careful not to repeat too much material which is in articles on the various races. He also feels that it would beneficial to have some sort of introduction which is a general summary of its racing history, for readers who don't want to read the entire section.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Best of luck on the GA nomination. —Bobbychan193 (talk) 01:35, 14 July 2019 (UTC)

2014 GoPro Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma and IndyCar race reports

I created this from redirect a couple of years ago as a stub under the philosophy that stubs are better than nothing. It's been two years and no one's come along and expanded it yet, so the notability is now in question by an out-of-WikiProject editor. Clearly the race is notable as all IndyCar races are, but this one needs some expansion and work.

I am now a full-time college student which leaves my availability to work here more limited than it used to be (don't get me wrong, I'm not retired in any sense of the word though) so if you're not too busy, would you mind perhaps lending a helping hand on this? If you're really looking for something to do in the Formula E offseason (since you do such a good job with those articles, I feel you'd do a good job here too :)), several 2019 races still need articles as well. AfroCine: Join the Months of African Cinema this October!

Greetings!

After a successful first iteration of the “Months of African Cinema” last year, we are happy to announce that it will be happening again this year, starting from October 1! In the 2018 edition of the contest, about 600 Wikipedia articles were created in at least 8 languages. There were also contributions to Wikidata and Wikimedia commons, which brought the total number of wikimedia pages created during the contest to over 1,000.

The AfroCine Project welcomes you to October, the first out of the two months which have been dedicated to creating and improving content that centre around the cinema of Africa, the Caribbean, and the diaspora. Join us in this global edit-a-thon, by helping to create or expand articles which are connected to this scope. Also remember to list your name under the participants section.

On English Wikipedia, we would be recognizing participants in the following manner:

  • Overall winner (1st, 2nd, 3rd places)
  • Diversity winner
  • Gender-gap fillers

For further information about the contest, the recognition categories and how to participate, please visit the contest page here. For further inquiries, please leave comments on the contest talkpage or on the main project talkpage. See you around :).--Jamie Tubers (talk) 00:50, 30 September 2019 (UTC)

Editing suggestion

Ken Miles has somewhere around 500,000 views in the last 30 days due to the new movie that is out, but it is in need of a lot of work. Probably better to get correctly sourced information in there now before folks who think Ford v Ferrari is a biopic and flood article with inaccurate information. I added some sources and can continue to poke around for more, but I wanted to point it out to an auto-racing article expert in case you can make some time for it. If you know any other editors that specialize in Le Mans, I can request their assistance as well. No worries if you do not have time/desire to work on it. Kees08 (Talk) 21:07, 17 November 2019 (UTC)

  • @Kees08: Have added some information about Miles' early life and referenced his career results. Should you require other editors to volunteer accurate information on Miles, I recommend The359 (talk · contribs) and Philby NZ (talk · contribs) MWright96 (talk) 07:37, 18 November 2019 (UTC)
    • That is great, thank you. Any work would be good since it is currently such a high-profile article, but it would be hypocritical if I made other editors work on it while I ignored it and worked on other things, so if anyone has time they can but no worries if interests lie elsewhere. Thank you very much for your contributions, article is in much better shape now. Kees08 (Talk) 16:45, 18 November 2019 (UTC)
