I guess the problem is that, since this is a collaborative effort, future editors may come along and want to revise or verify something but not know where it came from. The parts that would be most important to footnote are quotations and opinions. A secondary issue concerns the value of including Fact A vs Fact B in an article. How many specifications or options should be included versus reviewers' opinions vs recalls vs historic context? The answer is partly based on where the information is found. Material from the highest quality sources, like mainstream media and scholarly sources, has a higher priority than the lowest quality sources, like catalogs and brochures.
