Welcome!

Hello, Calicocat/Archive 1, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Again, welcome!  Alai 23:36, 28 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Hi, I noticed your edits to Ward Churchill this evening. I just removed a lot of superfluous material from that article and I was wondering if there was any way I could help you keep it focused and neutral. IMO, the ethicity issue is something of a red herring. I reduced it to a couple of lines, which together with the external links to texts pro and con I hope will suffice. I hope that you agree. -- Viajero 00:37, 3 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Just saw your message on the Talk page. To sign your name, type four tildes (~). (The instructions are above in the greeting). The system automatically substitutes your username and the timestamp. If you want to get creative, you can customize the string that gets inserted for your username in the Preferences page, but that is for later... -- Viajero 18:48, 3 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Congratulations Calicocat. You see, it is like water. It can be a big wave, or it can be slow work. Anthere 06:07, 16 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Great work on VNR, CC. I have some clarity issues re JS&E though. Will explain later. SV|t|add 04:20, 24 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I listed Template:News-trade on WP:TFD for you. It is not enough to add the {{tfd}} tag to a template to list it for deletion; you have to add a section to WP:TFD as well. You should definitely go to WP:TFD and add your comments there. Kelly Martin 19:42, Apr 25, 2005 (UTC)

Thanks, I placed the tag and was editing my comments, which I've now added to WP:TFD. Calicocat 20:17, 25 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Journalism misc.[edit]

Hi, I've made some comments at Wikipedia:WikiProject Journalism, in case you're interested. Maurreen 03:06, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for your nice note and your work on the journalism articles. I'm not sure who started the Wikiproject; I haven't done much with them myself. I just figured it could be a good place for discussion.
I don't know how much I'll be able to put into this stuff. Lately I'm spending more of my time at [Journawiki], a wiki about journalism. Maurreen 17:23, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Hi, I'm thinking of listing News trade at VFD. What do you think? Maurreen 14:31, 24 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I've listed it. You can vote on it here. Maurreen 17:40, 24 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I overhauled the article, including changing the name to Managing the news. See what you think. And a happy holiday to you also. :) Maurreen 3 July 2005 16:52 (UTC)

Do you think it should be VFD'd or just merged and redirected? Maurreen 3 July 2005 17:06 (UTC)

Project Journalism template[edit]

Sorry, I've never made a template. But I did find some instructions. Maurreen 5 July 2005 01:58 (UTC)

Re: Vandalism by user 24.60.52.200[edit]

Hi; thanks for your note. I didn't block the user because (1) I received your message a bit late, and (2) the user actually did stop vandalizing after my third warning (at 02:19 UTC). That said, I appreciate the time you took to inform me of the problem, and I'll keep an eye on the IP for the next few days. Cheers, -- Hadal 7 July 2005 05:37 (UTC)

Spam revert[edit]

Hi Calicocat, I noticed you reverted my spam removal in the Newspaper article. The reason I removed the external link was because this user Special:Contributions/80.58.16.235 has been adding the same link to many articles including nearly all 50 states articles and the United States article. This user will also add his link into the middle of the external links, in what I assume is an attempt to make it less obvious that a change was made. Also, his site is missing several major newspapers (such as the Richmond-Times Dispatch in Virginia). Unless an external link looks very legitimite to me, I'll remove it by default because of the huge increase in advertising attempts on Wikipedia lately. Monkeyman 12:29, 12 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
