Template:2009-10 NCAA Division I FBS football conferences

You seem like someone who has editorial interests that go along with creating an Big East page to fill in {{2009-10 NCAA Division I FBS football conferences}}.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 21:26, 27 September 2009 (UTC)

WAC as well.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 21:39, 27 September 2009 (UTC)
Glad to hear you are enjoying the effort. I mostly do Big Ten stuff and our page is coming along. The WAC page looks great. I am now working on the Big Ten page for {{2009–10 Men's Basketball Conference Seasons}}--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 15:34, 10 October 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for the commitment. As far as the best way to help, I think the most time-effective way to summarize each conference is with the rankings tables like we have at the Big Ten page. This will give a quick glance at how all the teams in a conference did over the course of the season.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 13:51, 13 October 2009 (UTC)

Good Stuff

Great job with all of your WAC related improvements. I created a WAC football uniforms category and a WAC marching band template that you might want to contribute to. I'm working on upgrading the LA Tech pages. Idaho and Utah State are two of the few teams without football pages, and NM State is the only WAC team that lacks a 2008 season page. SVG

Do you know how I could go about getting a SVG Memphis Tigers logo? I've tried converting one myself, but it always ends up blurry at higher resolutions. I think the problem is I don't have a clean enough copy, and there aren't any SVG versions available online. Anyway, the PNG version of our logo is a bad copy (you can't see the eyes, for one thing, also very blurry, colors aren't exactly right, etc.) Azyrii (talk) 22:23, 29 March 2010 (UTC)

No problem, I think I figured it out. Thanks anyway. 150px Azyrii (talk) 02:38, 30 March 2010 (UTC)

Attendance column on college football future season schedule table

Just wanted to drop a line regarding this edit you made to 2010 Eastern Michigan Eagles football team. My thought was: why clutter up people's screens with a column that is guaranteed to remain empty for 5 months? It's trivial to switch the parameter back on when the first game is played on 9/4. cmadler (talk) 19:50, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

AP vs Coaches Poll

I don't want to edit war with you, but there is no consensus for using the Coaches' Poll instead of the AP Poll. Most media outlets use the AP poll. It's the oldest poll and the most respected. I think you should respect the decisions of the primary editors of a page to use whichever poll they think is most appropriate for a page. Please don't unilaterally change every page to the Coaches' poll without first getting some sort of consensus for the college football project as a whole. —Ute in DC (talk) 21:12, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

I disagree. Its only the most respected because the sports writers say its the most respected. But even they didn't want it to be part of the BCS and since the BCS is what is used the crown the National Champion then why should the AP be used on the schedule when the coaches ACTUALLY DOES have to do with the BCS? To me its a miss representation to us the AP since its is essencially a meaningless poll. But if you want to be inaccurate on the Mountain West pages then be my guest. Bsuorangecrush (talk) 21:18, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

Whether or not you disagree with the actions of writers, most reporting outlets use it, including ESPN in its television broadcasts. Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources requires that we use reliable sources. Reliable sources are using the AP Poll. Therefore if an editor chooses to use the AP Poll, that should be respected.
Also, college football is about more than the BCS. The AP Poll precedes it, and in my opinion will be around after it is gone. I ask that you not just respect the Mountain West Conference pages, but all pages of all editors that have chosen to use the AP Poll. —Ute in DC (talk) 21:26, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

Not a very good argument. Of course most reporting outlets use it because its the ASSOCIATED PRESS, its in the name, but that dosent make it better. Most media outlets also use it as there protest against the BCS and their want to have control over college football like they had in the past. And ESPN used the coaches poll when it was the ESPN/USA Today coaches poll. And no, when it comes to rankings in the FBS it is not about more then the BCS. The BCS determines the National Champion, no matter what the AP has to say about it. I will respect pages that want to use the AP poll, but a true college football fan/reporter/writer should use the poll that actually counts. Bsuorangecrush (talk) 21:45, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

First off, I'd like to say I respect the work you do as an editor. You've kept a lot of pages updated for some teams that otherwise would be out of date, or more likely, wouldn't exist at all. I'd like to keep this civil, and I don't like the implication that I am not" a true college football fan."
As for this discussion, I opened up a thread on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject College football and I invite you to comment there. As for ESPN, they are a reliable source and despite what you may feel about their motivation, as a reliable source, they are acceptable in Wikipedia articles. And even when they were a title sponsor of the Coaches' Poll, they still used the AP Poll in their broadcasts when identifying a team's rank. Anyway, I think further discussion should be done on the college football project page. I appreciate your input and I think you do valuable work. Just remember that there are other editors that do valuable work too. —Ute in DC (talk) 21:55, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

Bowl games are indeed "non-conference"

Bsuorangecrush, the standard is to consider any game played between teams of different conference as non-conference, even it is a bowl. The way the schedule template is set up, to omit the asterisk on bowl games by rule is to suggest that all bowl games actually are conference games. Please see Wikipedia talk:WikiProject College football#Bowl games are not considered "non-conference"? for a discussion on this and please do not make any more edits contrary to this standard until consensus has been changed. Division Seeds

Are you sure that the seedings for conference tournaments need to be specified which division thy are in? I have not seen this anywhere else and I'm not sure what difference is makes. We do not specify what region the seed is in during the NCAA Tournament. ~ Richmond96 tc 20:58, 10 March 2011 (UTC)

I'm not sure if they need to be specified but dosen't it make sense? It is not accurate to say Florida is the #1 seed because there is another #1 seed (Alabama) from the other division. They are playing Tennessee who is the 5 seed in the east, but it wouldn't be accurate to say they are playing the #5 seed since Auburn is also a 5 seed. And you dont seed it on other pages because the SEC is one of only a few conference's that actually has divisions for basketball. With that said, I really don't care how it's listed, I just think it's inaccurate the way it was before. Bsuorangecrush (talk) 05:37, 11 March 2011 (UTC)

College football coach bios

Bsuorangecrush, thanks for all your great work of late churning out the 2011 team stubs. I noticed you've also created a few new stubs for coach biographies and wanted to point out a couple things regarding them. First, there have been some recent upgrades to Template:Infobox college coach, so you'll want to be sure you are using the latest version of that template. Second, the standard in Infobox college coach is to link to the team article, not the school article, e.g. Gardner–Webb Runnin' Bulldogs football, not Gardner–Webb University. Thanks. Jweiss11 (talk) 03:55, 18 May 2011 (UTC)

Bsuorangecrush, please take a look at my post above and consider incorporating those formatting elements into any new coaching biography articles, e.g. Frank Tavani, that you create. Thanks and keep up all the good work. Jweiss11 (talk) 03:00, 11 June 2011 (UTC)

Catgamer (talk) 00:44, 2 November 2012 (UTC)
Have just finished the Big West division and will continue with the CAA. Catgamer (talk) 17:58, 2 November 2012 (UTC)
Horizon League is finished as well, but that is all for today, now it is the others turn to add the rest of the schedules :-) Catgamer (talk) 22:48, 2 November 2012 (UTC)
I have watched through all the leagues and have seen that most work is done :-), there are just the Great West, MAEC, Mid-American, Northeast, Southern, Southland and SWAC leagues to complete and then we have it. Catgamer (talk) 23:50, 2 November 2012 (UTC)
Finally, I have finished the MEAC Conference. Sorry with the exhibition matches, but I have just read your message, so I did not include them. I hope it is not such a huge problem if someone else has to add these matches and results. Catgamer (talk) 20:58, 3 November 2012 (UTC)
I have finished the Mid-American league, Northeast and Ohio Valley Conferences as well. Catgamer (talk) 19:51, 4 November 2012 (UTC)
Southland Conference finished as well. Catgamer (talk) 23:52, 4 November 2012 (UTC)
Ivy League finished (except for the match schedule after first match that is played in December + exhibition matches). Catgamer (talk) 17:13, 6 November 2012 (UTC)

Sorry for not updating the record in these team templates, but I have done it now for all matches that have been played today, so there should be no problem anymore. Catgamer (talk) 21:50, 10 November 2012 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Non-free content policy and guideline, take 3

I have informed you of the guideline and you are obviously capable of working with it, so could you please try to not use non-free logos in the season articles you create (like you did here)?

WOW!!! Calm down. There are a ton of pages with logos used like that. The fact that you have singled me out is INSANE. Bsuorangecrush (talk) 03:49, 1 November 2012 (UTC)
I am calm, thank you very much. And yes, there are a ton of pages with logos used like that. That doesn't make it an acceptable practice. If you think my actions yesterday are a result of singling you out, then it's only because you are heavily involved in populating the categories I began working my way through in order to reduce the misuse of non-free content in this manner.
Now in addition to methodically working through the categories, I did look at your recent edits specifically since given your reaction to my previous notices regarding WP:NFC, I was (apparently correctly) concerned that you would continue creating problematic pages, and I wished to head off the practice before more time elapsed and more pages were created which would require cleanup. team pages schedules 2012-13

have all schedules on team pages completed up to Pac-12, if you want to start adding some exhibtion scores for those. all I have left is (patriot, SoCon, SLC, SWAC and removing cbb link templates for WAC and SEC. then everything is complete. should have them done by late thursday night or Friday Morning. Bearcats fan (talk) 07:07, 2012 November 8

I've been going through and uploading free images for pages that don't have them, I think the pages look better with an image in the info box, and been updateing as many exhibition scores as I can. I have not finished a schedule on a team latley, might be able to do some today though.Bsuorangecrush (talk) 15:34, 8 November 2012 (UTC)

Your input requested at WP:College basketball

Hello - There is a discussion going on at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject College Basketball#College basketball team season articles - Schedules discussing standards for team schedules on college basketball team season pages. Knowing that you create and/or edit many of these, I thought you might have opinions about what should be included in these and formatting. Please feel free to join the discussion. Wordmarks

First of all I'd like to say thank you for uploading the simpler wordmarks for the different athletic teams. When I've seen them I've started trying to use them instead of just leaving the season articles without any logo at all.

With regards to File:MVSU Wordmark.jpeg in particular, however, I am of the opinion that it is too complex to qualify as {{PD-textlogo}}. I brought it up at WP:MCQ#Some athletic logos - copyrightable? and the feedback there was in the same vein. Can you provide a simpler version of the wordmark which would be unambiguously free? If not, then I intend to retag it as non-free (or take it through WP:PUF if you disagree). I'll wait for your reply. VernoWhitney (talk) 00:09, 22 November 2012 (UTC)

How about this? File:MVSU V State Wordmark.png. I don't like that its all red but its still qualifies more as free then the last one. Bsuorangecrush (talk) 02:36, 22 November 2012 (UTC)
Yes, that one looks fine. Thank you! VernoWhitney (talk) 16:56, 24 November 2012 (UTC)

Updated

Hello, I have updated all matches played yesterday. :-)Catgamer (talk) 23:20, 6 January 2013 (UTC)

I figured you would have, you've been doing a way better job then I would have ever been able to do. I update as much as I can when I can but the wife kind of hates me spending a tone of time on here so I know when I can't get it done that you will. Thanks. I love that every DI team has a page and that they are so up to date all the time.Bsuorangecrush (talk) 23:23, 6 January 2013 (UTC)

I see that the current Valpo logo cannot be on the season pages, I assume for copyright, and I understand the revisions. However, the logo that IS on the Valpo season page is no longer a logo/wordmark for the school (they got rid of that wordmark in 2010). I would think that, if a usable version could be found of the first logo on this page (http://www.valpo.edu/brand/athletics/uniforms.php), that may be best. NCAA basketball

Now that the season is nearly over, I would like to thank you for your help and think we have done it quite convincingly. Catgamer (talk) 21:57, 27 March 2013 (UTC)

Its been fun. I'm going through all the pages now and changing all the openings to past tense, removing the rank columns for teams never ranked, and updating all tournament information so it is uniform for every team. It's taking a long time. Bsuorangecrush (talk) 22:00, 27 March 2013 (UTC)
But I am 100% sure that you will make it extremely well, as you did all season long :-) Catgamer (talk) 09:43, 28 March 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for your help with the SHSU pages

I'm taking on a little project to update the SHSU athletic pages as much as I can. I was surprised to see an edit that wasn't done by me on the SHSU basketball page. I guess you're also responsible for creating the 2011 and 2012 football season pages too. Thanks! Nice to see I'm not alone. AnthonyE (talk) 02:20, 5 May 2013 (UTC)

Hey Bsuorangecrush

I'm sending you this because you've made quite a few edits to the template namespace in the past couple of months. If I've got this wrong, or if I haven't but you're not interested in my request, don't worry; this is the only notice I'm sending out on the subject :).

So, as you know (or should know - we sent out a centralnotice and several watchlist notices) we're planning to deploy the VisualEditor on Monday, 1 July, as the default editor. For those of us who prefer markup editing, fear not; we'll still be able to use the markup editor, which isn't going anywhere.

What's important here, though, is that the VisualEditor features an interactive template inspector; you click an icon on a template and it shows you the parameters, the contents of those fields, and human-readable parameter names, along with descriptions of what each parameter does. Personally, I find this pretty awesome, and from Monday it's going to be heavily used, since, as said, the VisualEditor will become the default.

The thing that generates the human-readable names and descriptions is a small JSON data structure, loaded through an extension called TemplateData. I'm reaching out to you in the hopes that you'd be willing and able to put some time into adding TemplateData to high-profile templates. It's pretty easy to understand (heck, if I can write it, anyone can) and you can find a guide here, along with a list of prominent templates, although I suspect we can all hazard a guess as to high-profile templates that would benefit from this. Hopefully you're willing to give it a try; the more TemplateData sections get added, the better the interface can be. If you run into any problems, drop a note on the Feedback page.

Thanks, Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 21:51, 28 June 2013 (UTC)

NCAA men's basketball 2013/14

Hello Bsuorangecrush, do you have any idea when the new schedules will be released for the next season so that we can start making the schedules and team rosters for every team once again as we did last season? Catgamer (talk) 10:52, 7 August 2013 (UTC)

Teams will start releasing schedules as they become finalized and roster changes become more final when school starts again in august and September. There aren't any regular season games until the beginning of November so there is still some time. Bsuorangecrush (talk) 20:51, 7 August 2013 (UTC)

NCAA men's basketball 2013/14

I have started to create the first team pages for the upcoming season (Jackson State/Southern Illinois/Evansville/Illinois State and Indiana State), if you have the time, could you add the matches that I have not done yet (just done the first 10). Thanks a lot and I hope my work is appreciated as last season :-) Catgamer (talk) 21:34, 25 September 2013 (UTC)

I have started creating random pages as well (College of Charleston, Delaware, Morehead State, Belmont, SIU Edwardsville, Loyola Chicago, Drake, Bradley so far). No rhyme or reason, just kind of random. This time of year I mostly stick to football pages so I might not get to as much as I did last year. I am also working a lot more and my wife is not a huge fan of me spending a ton of time on here so I will always do what I can but I might not get around to everything.
