Snow Creek Village[edit]

Hi Brien. Snow Creek Village, California is south of Interstate 10 near Cabazon, I think. It's between Beaumont and Whitewater somewhere. It consists of about 40 homes: a small place. It was described in the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection Riverside Ranger Unit Fire Management Plan 2005. The plan talks about areas with vegetation fire problems — so someplace of similar size out by Blythe might not be listed. User:David Jordan 11/27/2006.

Spelling[edit]

Welcome, and thank you for correcting spelling on Wikipedia! However, both spellings of the word you "corrected" are acceptable.

Please familiarize yourself with American and British English spelling differences before making further spelling corrections to articles. Wikipedia has 47,340,518 registered users on this English Wikipedia. These editors use different versions of English including American English and British English. The list of dialects of the English language goes on and on.

When many styles are acceptable, avoid changing from one style to another unless there is some substantial reason for the change. It is acceptable to change from American spelling to British spelling only if the article concerns a British topic or vice versa or if you are making the article internally consistent.

First, welcome to Wikipedia. I understand that you've been around only a few months, and this can be a bit of a confusing place. Here's a suggestion . . . WikiProject tags are generally placed on articles where they belong. I notice that you've been changing a bunch of WikiProject California tags to WikiProject Southern California tags. Would you be kind enough to add all those WikiProject California tags back? If you are a member of WikiProject Southern California, you're certainly welcome to add those tags to cities in Southern California - but please don't remove the WikiProject California tags! Those cities are after all, still in California, and can easily be part of both projects - both WikiProject California and WikiProject Southern California. In fact, there are many articles here that are part of multiple WikiProjects.

So, no harm, no foul - if you could re-add the WikiProject California tags, that will save work for others. If you have any questions about these WikiProjects, I'll be glad to explain it further. Spamreporter1 22:26, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Charter Oak Unified School District[edit]

Regarding the red link on your user page, there is an article for Charter Oak Unified School District, although not yet one for Charter Oak High School. Blank Verse 01:21, 9 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you look at the Wikipedia:Schoolwatch archives, you will see that although there are plenty of schools that get nominated for deletion at WP:AFD, that after all the Sturm und Drang of the AFD process, that almost all high schools survive the deletion nomination (no matter how crappy a substub the article may be), although in many cases the decision of the closing admin is that there was no consensus to delete (rather than a consensus not to delete).

If you have created a pretty good article, I'd suggest going ahead and creating the page if you want to. On the other hand, if all you have is a stub-sized version, create the Charter Oak High School article as a redirect to Charter Oak Unified School District, and then add the stub-sized info to the school district article. Independent proposal for WP:CAL and WP:SOCAL tags[edit]

User Spamreporter1 has made a proposal for the tagging issue. He was not previously involved with either project before seeing this discussion, and I belive that his opinion therefore is NPOV. Your reversion of Order of the Stick[edit]

While the edits you reverted were unhelpful on the whole, they do not fit wikipedia's definition of vandalism. Not every bad edit is vandalism, and calling it such can be biting the newbies. Please be more cautious in your edit summaries. i kan reed 21:44, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dot-maps[edit]

Actually, the methods I use are somewhat crude but effective. For U.S. dot-maps, I find one of Wikipedia's U.S. state maps with outlined counties (one county will usually be a solid red color) and use a simple graphics editor/paint program to remove the red and touch things up a bit. This gives me my template map (which I add the small red dot to). For visual location data, I mostly use the U.S. Census Bureau's TIGER mapping database [1], move the red dot graphic around the map and save the image (repeat ad nauseum). Then the maps need to be converted to PNG format if they aren't already in that format (mine start out as BMP format). Then the maps are uploaded to either English Wikipedia or (with my recent ones) to Wikimedia Commons with appropriate licensing information, etc. Lastly, the city/place articles are edited to include the map images. Bakersfield edits up again[edit]

While the posts are good faith edits, he is providing a little too much info which begin to approach what Wikipedia is not (an indescrimate source of information). No other article I have on watch has as much info on notable people unless they are not well known outside the community. His recent attended HS edit along with Sports Illustrated info do not reflect proper sourcing/citations.

Thanks for responding back Brien. I have now read the articles about editing. Anyway, I would save the page so frequently becasue I was adding pro athletes I know of from Bakersfield to the site. I would add one, save it, add another, save it, and so forth. I know not to do that now. But, I thought adding little tid-bits of informaton about athletes such as Joey Porter would be cool for people to see. Is that something that is forbidden on here, or would I just need to refer back to the date of the Issue, page number, and everything else when I mentioned Sports Illustrated?
