Sorry for reverting your edit; I mistakenly thought that the 18 million figure was sourced. I have updated the data now with the 2001 census figures. The confusion between "Mumbai City" and the metropolitan area may explain the wide discrepancy of numbers floating around the web. Regards and wlcome to wikipedia.
