September 2019[edit]

Hi Benny, thanks for your message. I appreciate all the hard work you do as an editor to make Wikipedia better. I did not intend the material I added on George Grant to be promotional. I was merely trying to state facts. I have rephrased that content. I can provide links to the specific books if that would be best. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Leinadn (talkcontribs) 00:49, 11 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Leinadn, thanks for reaching out! One of the biggest deals on Wikipedia is reliable sources, which should usually be secondary sources. If, for instance, reliable sources confirm that "in the 1980s, he spent time with the homeless on the streets of New York City", then we can certainly include such content—and that sentence wasn't worded non-neutrally, and it didn't contain words to watch. However, that information was cited to a dubious source as mentioned on Talk:George Grant (author), which is why I removed that and some other statements. The only way Wikipedia "knows" something is a fact is if we can find it in reliable sources. Without them, we start having problems with all three core content policies: neutral point of view, verifiability, and no original research.
With that in mind, on George Grant (author) I recommend changing "He has also written books on how to help the poor and the homeless" to something like "He has also written books on homelessness and addressing poverty". Since the source ([1]) just lists the book titles and doesn't comment on them, that wording would be more neutral and closer to the source. Benny White (talk) 05:46, 12 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Changwon[edit]

Here's the thing: an acquaintance of mine made an edit to the article about Changwon, and it looks like you reversed his edits about famous people who come from Changwon. He is not at all happy with you and as he is working now, he sent me to ask you why you did this? Because as a Wikipedia editor, you're not helping anything ...187.1.62.168 (talk) 15:46, 26 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. While it's not always fun when someone else changes something you contributed, it's important to remember that Wikipedia is a collaborative project, and edits are routinely edited further or reverted. Generally, the edit summary is the first place to look if you're wondering why something was changed in an edit. In the edit in question, I put a link in the edit summary to a style guide that mentions certain requirements for the Notable People section. If editors think a reversion was incorrect, it's common to discuss it on the article's talk page (see WP:BRD). Benny White (talk) 18:37, 26 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
