Moving pages[edit]

I've noticed that you've been moving a lot of pages recently, and I think I can give you some useful advice regarding move such as Category:Layout enginesCategory:Web browser engines. In this case, what you did was create a new category and systematically changed all links on the affected pages to the new category. It would have been easier to simply move the page and let all current links redirect.

I did that intentionally because web browser engines are a subset of layout engines. Therefore it is never wrong to put a page describing a web browser engine in Category:Layout engines but it is wrong to put a page describing a layout engine which is not a web browser engine in Category:Web browser engines. I chose to validate the move to a more specific category manually for each page to preserve correctness. Had I done what you suggest, Panorama (Layout Engine) would have ended up in the wrong place and I wouldn't have known. I think it is important to maintain correctness through each edit when you are in a renaming process that takes weeks, in order not to confuse other users. Thanks for the tip though.
