don't try to threaten me just because you can't fit through the doors of your favorite comic book store, even if you did delete me i will find a way back on to continue being what you whould call "disruptive". honestly if you have some problem with me or if wikipedia is the only place you feel your life has a point please just come out and say it instead of wasting my short free time. i will not make fun of you or any of your yuppie ideals because in a way i pity you and i know you'll only go and get your D&D buddies to try to increase your meddle, in short "How can I kill that which has no life". —Preceding unsigned comment added by Deanostrodamus (talkcontribs) 13:58, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Thank you

You reading of this situation is very different to mine, but nevertheless your solution is a sensible and practical one, given the circumstances. Thanks Gohdeilocks (talk) 20:35, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

The current heading of the discussion archive ("A request to Ban an abusive Sockpuppet User:Gohdeilocks") makes two allegations which simply are not true. Is it possible to change this to just User:Gohdeilocks ? Gohdeilocks (talk) 20:39, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
I understand your problem with that section title, I really do. My concern is that changing it to something neutral will shatter the "truce", and we'll be back to where we were a few minutes ago. I'll see if I can bring this up with Igor without screwing this up... If you don't mind too much, please don't change the title until I've had a chance to discuss with him. --barneca (talk) 20:45, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
While you're there, could you perhaps explain to him that "Avoid posting on each other's talk page" means not to post on my talk page? Gohdeilocks (talk) 20:55, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
Overlooking that lapse would be best (as would avoiding picking at scabs, if at all possible). however, if he continues to post to your talk page, I'll un-archive the WP:ANI thread and let someone else take a crack at it. --barneca (talk) 21:03, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
I'm sure you've read the rest of my talk page, so you can appreciate my frustration. Regarding the archived title, Atlan did note: "So there is no sockmaster and this is just an empty accusation, nor does there seem to be any merit to Igor's spamming allegations." Gohdeilocks (talk) 21:17, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
It is with a profound sense of dread that I ask the following question. Are you User:John Gohde? Having never heard of this user until 5 minutes ago, I didn't catch the implications of the way the name Gohdeilocks was spelled. --barneca (talk) 21:38, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
No - my nick is my wife's nickname from college. They share a surname but I'm pretty certain they're not related. Why ? Gohdeilocks (talk) 21:43, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
Having read more about him, can I add a clarification ? Sweet baby Jesus - NO But if you want to be sure, I can give you my telephone number and you can give me a quick ring to confirm I'm from a different country Gohdeilocks (talk) 21:45, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
(cross-post of the message I left on your talk page just now) Call me stupid, but I simply didn't get that Igor thinks you are John Gohde. I don't have time to wade into that giant morass today, so I have no opinion on whether he is correct or not. As it stands, you two have agreed to stay away from each other, so I'll be curious to see if that holds up or not, but (based on who he thinks you are) that thread title makes sense, and at this time i'm not willing to change the thread title unilaterally. If this is not acceptable to you, I'd be happy to un-archive the discussion, and you two can argue some more. --barneca (talk) 22:08, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

I do not agree for changing the title of WP:ANI

Barneca, no I do not agree for changing the title of WP:ANI

Please leave the title as A request to Ban an abusive Sockpuppet User:Gohdeilocks Thank you, Igor Berger (talk) 21:39, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

This would appear to be directly relevant. Gohdeilocks (talk) 21:52, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
Barneca User:Gohdeilocks is not User:John Gohde he is the abuser of User:John Gohde with the Website naturalhealthperspective.net John Gohde website is http://naturalhealthperspective.com
If User:Gohdeilocks wants the title changed he can file a request with Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration My request has been archived and I recommend he starts his own request. Thank you, Igor Berger (talk) 22:02, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
Barneca, please do not go out of your way for this, it is a very complecated matter. If User:Gohdeilocks has a consern with something let him voice it at Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration. We have all spent enough time on this, and it is better that we get back to editing. Thank you for your help, Igor Berger (talk) 22:16, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

New thread for both Gohdeilocks and Igorberger

OK, too many edit conflicts, I'm leaving messages for you at the same time you're leaving messages for me, and since I'm not up to speed with John Gohde I got lost anyway. I assume you both have my talk page watchlisted.

  1. I'm evidently confused, Igor doesn't think Gohdeilocks is John Gohde.
  2. I am not up to speed on the whole John Gohde thing.
  3. I am not going to change any ANI thread title
  4. Regardless of who is who, if you both really want this to die, then don't engage each other. If you don't want this to die, I'll un-archive the ANI thread. Or, better yet, whoever wants it to live on can un-archive it themseleves.
  5. Tomorrow, when I have time, I'll make mention of this whole sorry mess at the RFAR for John Gohde, and people that are much more familar with this than I am will, I'm sure, be happy to sort this all out.
  6. So, how many edit conflicts will there be when I try to save this?

--barneca (talk) 22:18, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Thank you, I agree with your good decission. Igor Berger (talk) 22:24, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Gohdeilocks abuse Igorberger and John Gohde

Barneca, I left a message for User_talk:John_Gohde#naturalhealthperspective.net Let him take a look at this, he knows these people very well. Thank you, Igor Berger (talk) 23:27, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Just as a heads-up, I went ahead and blocked User:Gohdeilocks - it looks for all the world like a throwaway account created to troll/harass a couple of specific users. MastCell Talk 00:42, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

I am not User:Gohdeilocks. A simple check of the ISP for User:Gohdeilocks can prove that. -- John Gohde (talk) 17:56, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

I know that now, John. I was unfamiliar with your case, and misunderstood what Igor Berger was telling me; I thought at the time he was saying that you were harrassing him. I figured it out a few minutes later (see section above). --barneca (talk) 18:16, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
Barneca, just a little heads up to what Social engineering malware is. Google Igor Berger now
Google Igor The Troll
You will get this page in the result.

For me it is not a problem because I am an anti-spam evangelist, so I open myself for exploit. But think of an editor who has a family, a job, friends. Something like this can ruin their lives and have them ostracized by society! You should look at John's attacker's Website, they are after his son as well. IMAO!
Maybe now, you can understand why I thought the sockpuppet tooth and nail. It was not about me, I do not give a F...what he says about me. But I do care about other people being hurt by Black hats. Regards, Igor Berger (talk) 08:05, 5 January 2008 (UTC)
P.S.(The results may shift a bit depending on Google data center.)
Oh, and let's not delete the the sockpuppet talk page, but preserve it for posterity as Road kill and it will be my Red Badge of Courage. Thank you, Igor Berger (talk) 08:22, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks. As you can imagine, I still feel really guilty that someone might have actually felt driven away from a website because of me. And when he commented on my talk page, I defended my decision instead of actually looking, which I imagine infuriated him further. I think I might stop keeping my eye on recent changes and just reverting vandalism as and where I encounter it, since it's safer than trying to make quick decisions (and, of course, recent changes are patrolled by others too - leading to exactly this kind of situation where I revert another's genuine reversions because I didn't see the page inbetween). I also think I'm too unsympathetic to anonymous members, i.e. "any anonymous member who I even suspect of being a vandal is definitely a vandal". So I'll try and change that. But like you say, it's difficult... and trying to be active in reverting pages inevitably leads to errors. Thanks again for your comments, though. I hope he'll come back. --RiverRubicon (talk) 16:26, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

Sometimes an anonymous member is trying to give us a message. While the behavior maybe bad the message maybe important. So when I deal with valdalism, I look at what it is about and not just delete it with closed eyes. I understand to investigate what it is about is very difficult and at times almost impossible, but to keep an eye on it, and bring the issue to attention of others is desirable. Thank you, Igor Berger (talk) 15:16, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

Rollback

You're welcome. :) From my past observations of you, I don't believe you'll abuse rollback. :) Good luck. Acalamari 22:48, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

Yes, I saw that. :) You're welcome for the non-archive too. If you ever want rollback returned, you know where to go. :) With the current discussions, I don't see why they're necessary: RfR has been functioning fine, in my opinion, and I've been one of the most active people there. Acalamari 18:31, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
No problem. I change my mind on an hourly basis! By the way, how do you like the new sig? I was a little concerned about using my real name there, since I know of two other users who just have "Justin" in their sig. But I kind of like it. JustinContribsUser page 18:22, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

Request for help

Greetings Barneca, Appreciate that you are very busy, but am appealing to you to block the following user/editor for having vandalised the Count Basie article. Thanx. Technopat (talk) 22:52, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

HiTechnopat,
I'm not an admin, so I can't block anyone, but a block wouldn't be appropriate in this case anyway; they've only edited once in the last month, and twice in the last six months [1]. It's quite possibly a shared IP, so it may not even be the same person who was vandalizing in June (when I left my last warning, which is how I assume you found my name). I'll leave them a new warning, and if this vandalism continues, you can report them to WP:AIV if they vandalize after a recent final warning. But warnings do grow "stale", and we can't block after a warning given in June. Thanks for reverting the vandalism, and if you have any questions on vandalism reverting and warnings and blocking, feel free to ask. --barneca (talk) 23:00, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

Releasing IP addresses of registered users: the Video Professor incident

This issue was discussed at User talk:Jimbo Wales/Archive 31#Wikipedia surrendering users' info without a fight. It was stated there that it was not an appropriate discussion forum for the topic of how hard the Foundation should and did fight to prevent revealing the IP addresses of registered users to parties who had been criticized in a Wikipedia article and who subpoenaed the user information. I have started a discussion at the Village Pump policy page at Wikipedia:Village pump (policy)# Releasing IP addresses of registered users: the Video Professor incident. Two other websites successfully avoided releasing the subpoenaed information. You did great work to try and resolve the drama at the Video Professor article in compliance with Wikipedia policies and guidelines. Your comments are welcome. Thanks. Demote admin User:Y

If people choose to be rude to me, it's their bad karma, not mine. What I see is User:Y calling User:Be best and User:W guice racist. It might be that he was actually calling their behaviour racist, but that doesn't make any difference. A person whose behaviour is racist is a racist. You cannot say that Hitler was not a racist, just his behaviour was. Hitler was a racist, and we can see that from his behaviour.

I will only drop this matter if an admin somehow blocks or bans me, or closes the discussion (whether with good reason or not). Because I'm just a normal user without any powers here. If they choose to do that, there's nothing I could do. But until they do that, I will keep saying that User:Y attacked other users personally without basis.

Do you remember that TV reporter saying (jokingly or not) that Tiger Woods should be lynched by the other players? If you don't know what I'm talking about, search news websites for this story. Woods has said that he has forgiven the reporter and wants to move on, but the Rev. Al Sharpton says her comment was hurtful to African Americans, and he will keep saying that even if it makes him unpopular. Yes, I'm unpopular for saying that User:Y should be demoted because he attacks other users personally. But being unpopular does not mean being wrong. Thank you for your kind message, but I'm sorry if I won't drop this matter until I'm banned or the discussion is closed by an admin. --Koreanjason (talk) 18:31, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

replied here. --barneca (talk) 18:41, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
I may have misinterpreted User:Y's remarks. But he should have thought about that before using the word "racist". If he had called them "know-it-all" or "smartass", I might have let it go. But calling someone a racist/sexist/anti-semite/homophobe or other hurtful things should not be done lightly. And it's not funny. Again, thank you for actually paying attention to what I say instead of who said it (although you disagree, which is your right). --Koreanjason (talk) 18:46, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your intervention

Hi Barneca, thanks for intervening with User:Badagnani and myself. I have decided not to revert the articles in question for the time being. Anyways, cheers, --Tom 22:33, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

I added a comment [2] suggesting a wider discussion; I didn't know there were multiple articles involved, and WP:3O isn't the same as WP:FINALO. If your understanding of that area is deeper than mine, I'd really suggest taking it somewhere for wider review; I only added my opinion because I saw it at WP:RC; I don't have any special policy-interpreting skills. But, in this one particular article, I'm comfortable with my opinion, so if you don't feel like fighting, I suspect he will re-add it any minute now. --barneca (talk) 22:41, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
Actually, I am not sure if it has been readded? As soon as I desist, so does he :) go figure. Anyways. no biggie either way. Cheers, --Tom 17:06, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

ANI

What do you need doing? Woody (talk) 18:44, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

User:JohninMaryland created a new article over the top of an existing disambiguation page. The page is now at Santa Anna (Comanche war chief), after I cleverly moved it from Santa Anna, a former and current redirect to the disambiguation page Santa Ana. However, i didn't notice the page has a history based on it's existence as a dab page, and that history is now "hidden" at the new article.
I can either list what I think needs done, or defer to your (likely) better expertise at fixing it. JohninMaryland is the only author of the new content, can't figure out how to keep his edits in the history. --barneca (talk) 18:47, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
So you want John Maryland edits to go on a new page Santa Anna (Comanche war chief). The original history should remain at santa anna as a dab page? That sound reasonable? Woody (talk) 18:51, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
Exactly. Thank you. --barneca (talk) 18:51, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
Well, as a redirect to the dab page, but otherwise yes. --barneca (talk) 18:52, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
Frankly, I got confused, and don't won't want to experiment because it needs devs to fix. I have asked at Wikipedia:Cut and paste move repair holding pen for help, they are experts. Sorry I couldn't help. Woody (talk) 19:08, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
Woody, if you're still watching, I know how to fix this now, without involving devs (only because John is here to help, actually):
Then John can create the new article from scratch (important point: since he's the only author of the new material, he can cut and paste with no history loss), the attribution will be correct, and I'll go back and revert the no-longer relevant edits at Santa Anna.
Thanks for your help. --barneca (talk) 19:15, 22 January 2008 (UTC) nevermind, fixed now. Thank you for trying, sorry i gummed it up so bad. --barneca (talk) 19:17, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

MiszaBot III

Continuing from the conversation started at the help desk

I tried adding Miszabot to my talk page, but it didn't do anything. I see you have your talk page archived - would you be able to do what's necessary to mine, just to make it work. I can change any parameters like days or size to what suits me afterwards. Thank you in advance. -- Matthew Edwards | talk | Contribs 18:44, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

Hi Matthew,
I don't use the bot myself, I just archive manually. I mentioned it just because I've seen others use it and thought you might want to try it. I think (very much not sure) that it archives once a day, so if you set it up all right, it should archive within 24 hours; I'm pretty sure you shouldn't expect an immediate archive. Unless your page length is unbearable to you, I'd wait to see if it runs by tomorrow.
I'm being pulled away from Wikipedia now by the real world, but if you don't want to wait to see if the bot works, I can help you manually archive your page using cut and paste sometime later today (either advice, or I can do it for you). I don't have much experience in the other 2 methods. Leave another message here if that's what you'd like. --barneca (talk) 18:52, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for getting back. Someone I talk to regularly uses the bot, so I'll ask him to help me with it. Thanks, though! -- Matthew Edwards | talk | Contribs 19:14, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

Help!

My friend, I wrote an article on Dohasan, and later discovered a stub had already been written. I have posted the notice required when one wants to incorporate a stub into a full article, and no one has answered, though it has been a good bit of time. How do I proceed from here, in terms of trying to get the stub merged with teh full article? I would really appreciate your help, and here is the link to the stub needing merging...[3] Thanks! By the way, you have my vote - no one on this project has earned admin status more than you have. JohninMaryland (talk) 14:22, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

Hi John,
We're lucky; we don't need an admin to do a history merge (which, if I understand how it works, would have been a nightmare in this case; two articles with like two years worth of separate contributions; not even sure that would have been possible), because:
  • The older, shorter stub doesn't have any information not already in the newer article
  • The newer article appears to have been developed independently, so there's no GFDL issue where the contributors to the stub won't get credit for info in the full article
  • The only reference for the stub no longer works
So, I'm just going to turn the stub into a redirect to the fuller article. FYI, if there had been a sentence or two of info in the stub you wanted to incorporate, but a full history merge wasn't necessary, you could have added the info, with a reference to the speciic version of the stub you took it from in your edit summary, and the issue of giving credit where credit is due would have been satisfied.
The deadline this week that was preventing me from starting the RfA, was pushed to Monday, so I expect I'll go live on Tuesday or Wednesday. Thanks for the kind words. --barneca (talk) 18:03, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
barneca (talk Good morning, and thank you! I learned something, and really appreciated the help. When I developed the new article, a search did not show up the stub, because of the way the name was spelled, with the emphasis in it. I inadvertantly discovered it later, when doing a tally of subjects covered under Kiowa and Comanche, as I am updating the subjects covered. Anyway, thanks a great deal for the assistance! As to the RfA, I truly believe you will be an outstanding admin. You not only have a detailed knowledge - look at this! - of wikipedia knowledge, policy, and procedure, and are willing to help those who ask, but you are a genuinely good, decent person. It will be my enormous pleasure to strongly support you. JohninMaryland (talk) 13:03, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

Yuck. I had reverted several of his vandalism edits, and then saw he had earlier reverted two editors own edits to their user pages, so I just reverted those without looking at the content. If I had know it was that vile, I would have been significantly more severe in my warning sequence than I was. Glad to help. --barneca (talk) 21:57, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

Thanks, THO! In addition to the nice thought, this will serve as a bright red reminder that if i don't remember to buy something for the wife on Thursday, I'm dead. --barneca (talk) 20:15, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

Congratulations, you are now an admin

I'm happy to inform you that, due to your successful request for adminship, you have now been promoted to an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me or stop by the administrators' noticeboard. Congrats! Andre (talk) 17:56, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

Thank you! Weird, suddenly all these little extraneous tabs and buttons all over the place... --barneca (talk) 18:01, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

User:Barneca/RfA/Thank you

Congratulations

Congratulations on becoming an admin! I know you're pretty active at WP:ACC, so the good news is, no more typing "no contribs, will be created shortly" and more account creating. :) Yes, as an admin you won't get the "similar to --" message, it will simply create the account. (Just thought you may be interested to know this.) Again, congrats!   jj137 (talk) 19:24, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

Thanks jj137. I'll bug you if I need help with something there. --barneca (talk) 20:15, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

Congrats

Hey, congratulations. Well-deserved. It's always nice to see the community correct its mistakes :) Enjoy the new buttons, and let me know if I can give you a hand with anything. You'll probably make some mistakes, but don't worry. When admins get in trouble it's because they don't ask for help beforehand, or refused to admit any fault afterward. I'm sure you'll do great, and I can claim at least 25% of the credit. ongratulations again. MastCell Talk 19:32, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

Thanks MastCell, for everything. I'm sure I'll take you up on that. --barneca (talk) 20:15, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
Excellent. Simply excellent. Of course, it was the high quality of the nom's what sold it and not your contributions or anything!! :) Pedro :  Chat  19:45, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
Indeed, I think so. I suspect you could nominate <Redacted username; it would have been funny, IMHO, but might have hurt feelings. See, already showing a new level of maturity and judgement!> himself and he'd squeak thru with 75.1%. Thanks. --barneca (talk) 20:15, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
Dude - you've got it wrong! Now you've got the buttons you can be BITEY, UNCIVIL and as IMMATURE as you like - it's all over, the pretence of being nice ended at RfA closure time!! </joke>. I'd love to know who you were going to put in there above, and I've a sneaky feeling you meant this guy..... but nah - too few main space edits for me to nominate! Pedro :  Chat  21:07, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
Hey, a heartfelt congrats, and a *finally* from me, too! :) SQLQuery me! 04:51, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. I'm looking forward to adding move protection to WP:ACC myself next time you delete it :) --barneca (talk) 17:00, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
Or, un full-protecting it! :) SQLQuery me! 07:33, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

In case you were woundering no I didn't forget there isn't a follow up question. Have fun as an admin.Geni 00:44, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

You mean it was a trick to get me to read it again!? Sly, very sly. Thanks! --barneca (talk) 02:44, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

Hi there!

I was wondering if we should have a list of active contributors for this, like WP:RENAME?

What do you think? Please leave a message on my talk page :)

--The Helpful One (Review) 18:21, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, I didn't think that it was needed, just an idea. With the page delete and move... of course I saw that :) It was on my watchlist! Well done (although there were clear instructions with links to help)! --The Helpful One (Review) 18:33, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
Well of course there were, otherwise I would have completely screwed it up! Still, don't harsh my buzz, man (I don't suppose anyone still says that; probably dates me tremendously). --barneca (talk) 18:36, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

Tip

Update your userpage "Other potentially useful information about me - I am not an admin, and if I did something to give you that impression, I'm sorry." :) Tim Vickers (talk) 00:53, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

D'oh! again. Thanks. --barneca (talk) 01:01, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

diff

The answer is, of course, yes. I would consider a sincere assurance from Robin that he would not continue the vandalism sufficient for any admin to unblock, and would give one myself if I came across it. This comes, of course, with the caveat that an actual apology would make me feel much better about the odds that it might happen again.

I'm happy to comment / respond to any questions, but I don't insist on being kept up on this situation, as it seems pretty straightforward. But thanks for your consideration.

Cheers! - Revolving Bugbear 18:03, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

I assumed as much, but would have wanted to check with you anyway; day 3 of my adminship isn't a great time to go rouge, although evidently some unnamed new admins disagree. Anyway, it appears he's still sulking and has now blanked his page, so it's unlikely anything will come of it, but if it does, I'll do what i think best and notify you. I don't consider what he's said so far any kind of assurance, so I'm leaving it alone for now. Thanks for the note. --barneca (talk) 18:09, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

I've unblocked, per your note on my talk page earlier today. I'll keep an eye out, but I think the squall is over. --barneca (talk) 21:09, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads up. I will do so as well, but I agree that it's probably over. - Revolving Bugbear 21:10, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the catch

Sorry about that, it's not like me to falsely warn and report someone for vandalism. I suppose I clicked too hastily. I'm at work at the moment. It's just a real eye opener when you see disparaging comments in a biography of a living person (at least for me, that's a pet peeve of mine). Thanks for bringing it to my attention. It has been fixed, and the real user has been warned with a level 1. Wisdom89 (T / C) 19:55, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

thanks for that

I do think there are some over zealous 'policemen' here now. I do not have the time to put up many full articles, and often one has evolved. People have corrected English, improved the graphics and generally I thought this was the wiki spirit.

The SDS 930 article was like that. I had a few notes from when I worked on one in 1990, realising that the documents describing how transistors had an MTTF much better than valves meant transistors were the way to go, seemed funny at the time. I then realised that this was pivotal to hardware design. When I first created the wiki page it was threatened with speedy removal. I considered then I had to waste time defending it.

Anyway I am very busy now, so I wont be submitting articles. I do like the way you can lift TeX out of wiki though. That was well thought out.

I think that the 'speedy delete' police need some taming here.

Robin48gx (talk) 21:14, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

hi barneca, I am trying to defend the List_of_free_party_sound_systems page. I know what I did before that was a bit stupid, I was angry about having work removed so quickly. But I would like to put that incident behind me. User:Corvus cornix has linked to a difference with the unforunate comments I made. These really have no relevance to the defence of the List_of_free_party_sound_systems page. I wonder if you could help me by removing that particular reference.Robin48gx (talk) 21:09, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
Replied on Robin's talk. --barneca (talk) 15:56, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

RE: templates

Hey Barneca, thanks for the message - I replied on my talk page if you're interested. This isn't the first time it's happened. These IPs are all the same user with a penchant for willfully blanking all of those templates. Wisdom89 (T / C) 20:52, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

You gonna give that guy a warning too, or am I going to have to contact a proper administrator--Hammerandclaw (talk) 22:01, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

No, I'm not; I don't think he did anything wrong. You deleted someone's talk page, he reverted and warned you about it. If you deleted it by mistake, and don't like having that warning there, feel free to delete his warning from your talk page. Please, follow Tony Sidaway's excellent advice that he left on your talk page. --barneca (talk) 22:09, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

broadband

I know what I mean, and it isn't ISP. I should not, and will not have to apologise for anything, let alone to nh.jg, and plus it seems he has retired from Wikipedia anyway. Thank you for your technical advice, I appreciate that, but if I want a lesson on online courtesy, I shall retrieve it from the help desk. Good day to you.--Hammerandclaw (talk) 10:03, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

Good work

You're doing excellent work. :) I can tell because you had to semi-protect your talk page. MastCell Talk 20:01, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

Thanks! When I really feel like I need a lift, can I full-protect it and you'll say even more nice things? Still getting used to the admin atmosphere, and a couple of surprising reactions to one or two things I've done, may chat with you by email sometime just to get your take and a sanity check. But really, thanks for the attaboy, it perked me up a bit. --barneca (talk) 20:08, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

Re: Hammerandclaw

No worries mate. Yes, it got a bit interesting there, with what I still feel are totally spurious "excuses" about dodgy broadband, emails from brothers, you name it. Normally a block for incivility's a bit simpler than that! I concur by the way with the people that said you aren't classed as "involved" if you apply a block following incivility to you, if the incivility is a response to your warning them in the first place (did that make sense?) I find the main thing around here is to CYA - follow process (but with due regard to WP:IAR) and you should be fine! Cheers, Tonywalton Talk 22:42, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Hey, we all gotta learn some time, right? I agree with Tony's assessment of "the main thing around here". Just keep your wits about you -- which you did, barneca -- and you'll always be fine. Cheers! - Revolving Bugbear 23:41, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
Yes, some of the craftier troublemakers, upon being warned or blocked, will attack the blocking admin directly with an eye toward "involving" him/her. Having someone get mad at you doesn't make you "involved". But the best thing in those situations is to go to AN/I and spin the roulette wheel. MastCell Talk 23:47, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Hello. Next time, please be careful when removing requests from WP:ACC. Just a few minutes ago, you removed the directions as well. If you are to reply, please do so on my talk page. Thanks. - Milk's Favorite Cookie 23:28, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Have to agree with that. But, just be careful. - Milk's Favorite Cookie 23:32, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
Yes, I understood the "be careful" part the first time. --barneca (talk) 23:40, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
