Request reason:

I had a ban on my account for an inappropriate username. This was unintentional, so happily changed it to something else once I found out I was blocked. Perhaps there could be an option available to moderators to freeze an account for something like this, where the user has the chance to change the username. It seems like quite a process to get things moving again. I appreciate the good work they do. Best regards

Accept reason:

I am removing the block. Apologies for the time taken, but I must be certain about things like this. 331dot (talk) 12:19, 28 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Administrators(moderators) do have that option, and it was exercised here by blocking the account so you could request that the name be changed. What I'm not clear on is if this is your new name or your old name. 331dot (talk) 20:48, 27 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi thanks for your quick reply Are you saying you're not sure which of my names was deemed offensive? It was my previous one. Surely if you're uncertain it indicates that the ban was a little harsh? I believe a better practice in my case would be to 'freeze' an account. When the user next logs in they are redirected to page explaining the situation with a chance update their username or appeal there. For serious cases then fair enough - ban them all day long, but this process seems pretty long winded to correct an honest mistake like in my case.
What you term a 'freeze' is exactly what has happened here. You are not 'banned' but 'blocked'. Bishonen did you block this account directly? 331dot (talk) 08:17, 28 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Absolutely not, Dot. This must be the new name. Badlydrawnlad, once you have changed your username, it's changed everywhere, including in the block log. If people aren't aware of this, they may get the impression I blocked your new name, since the log says "Bishonen blocked Badlydrawnlad", but I don't see how I can have done, since there's nothing offensive about it. Well, unless I misclicked or something. As for "quite a process to get things moving again" — yes, well, that's because I put a "hard" block on you. If I'd gone for a soft block, with account creation immediately allowed, it would have been simple for you. The reason for putting a hard block is usually either vandalism, or that I judged the name intentionally offensive (i. e., not an honest mistake). You'll know more about that than me, since I don't know your old name. Bishonen | talk 10:46, 28 December 2019 (UTC).[reply]

Thanks for your reply Bishonen. You blocked my old name - Longschlong007. So I put a request in for a new username. I use 'Longschlong' or variations of it, on a number of platforms for many years, and have never had any issue with anyone being offended. By having my old username on here I wasn't trying to intentionally offend anyone, but it seems I have offended you. I've changed my name like I say, so what else do I have to do to get an unblock?

Wikipedia is a global website with users from all over the world, at least some of whom might be offended by a reference to the male anatomy, even as a euphemism. Wikipedia should also be treated as any public forum, with certain standards of decorum and decency. 331dot (talk) 12:19, 28 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you 331dot. Message heard and understood. Wishing you a wonderful 2020.
