Morocco Mediation[edit]

Given that no one has replied to the mediation within the last 17 days, I am closing it as being stale. From a cursory glance, it appears to me that mediation is no longer needed. However, if this is not the case, then you are more than welcome to file a new case. Thanks. On behalf of the Mediation Committee, ^demon[omg plz] 16:21, 1 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ready?[edit]

Hola Javier! Estas dispuesto para la candidatura a ser un bibliotecario? -- Szvest Wiki me up ® 13:28, 8 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

FayssalF would like to nominate you to be an administrator. Please visit Wikipedia:Requests for adminship to see what this process entails, and then contact FayssalF to accept or decline the nomination. A page has been created for your nomination at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Asterion. If you accept the nomination, you must formally state your acceptance and answer the questions on that page. Once you have answered the questions, you may post your nomination for discussion, or request that your nominator do so.

Thanks, FayssalF. I feel honoured. Asteriontalk 20:56, 14 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You deserve that. Please answer the questions there later on. -- Szvest - Wiki me up ® 12:19, 15 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Asterion, are you back now or shall we postpone listing the RfA at the request board untill you're fully back? -- Szvest - Wiki me up ® 09:08, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
We'll do one thing. Following the instructions here you'll be the one listing it at the RfA main page when you are ready. HOwever, we can also start from scratch when you are back after deleting this prior one. Just tell me which option is suitable for you. Cheers -- Szvest - Wiki me up ® 10:32, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It's OK. I will probably have more time during these days than when I'm back. I just listed it. Gracias por todo Fayssal. Asteriontalk 12:37, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
De nada hombre! Buena suerte. -- Szvest - Wiki me up ® 13:01, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hay nuevas preguntas de la parte de User:Malber en el RfA que tienes ke responder. Cheers -- Szvest - Wiki me up ® 17:03, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Me he dado cuenta pero estoy en la oficina y aparte de una ojeada rapida no tengo tiempo de responder bien desde aqui. Las respondo esta tarde. Thanks for the heads up! Asteriontalk 17:28, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, Dijxtra (off wiki for a while) wanted to nominate you few months ago, as we discussed privately, but he/we (apparently) forgot. I'm glad that we were preempted. As a compensation, I happened to be the first to support . Duja 10:28, 21 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, we talked about it for a while but I was quite busy at the time. Thanks very much for your support, Duja. You really put a smile in my face ;-) Asteriontalk 12:30, 21 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ref conv[edit]

Sorry for the downtime. References converter is now back up and running. About a week ago the hard drive in my server crashed. Luckily it stayed together long enough to allow me to pull all the data off onto a new hard drive, but I still had to go through the process of installing Linux on the new hard drive, installing all the necessary programs, and loading in all of the old data from the server. I got all of my essential services up within two days (CVS, Apache, Wiki), but I kind of forgot about web scripts, which I finally got around to fixing today. Everything should be fully functional again. If you see any bugs, just send me a message. You are receiving this message because you are on the spamlist. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, simply remove your name. --Cyde Weys 19:10, 12 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wikiproject Automobiles Notification[edit]

Hi Asterion, you were on the list of members at WikiProject Automobiles and we are introducing a new way of listing members, as the old list was becoming too long. Our new method involves having all of our members in a category.

To add yourself to the category just add the userbox to your user page by putting {{Wiki Auto Project}} where you want the userbox. Alternatively if you don't like the userbox you can add [[Category:WikiProject Automobiles members|Asterion]] to your userpage.

If you no longer wish to be a member of the project, simply don't add the userbox or category, there's no pressure. Thanks for your time, James086Talk | Contribs 04:54, 15 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

History of Gibraltar[edit]

I was tidying up the wording, and have given the reference for the introduction of the term the issues of sovereignty which first showed up in the Spanish version of the Brussels agreement, the British version was later revised to agree.

If you need any proof that Glacis estate and the other parts mentioned are an integal part of the territory of Gibraltar I can cite the telephone book, however should you call any of the residents and ask if they are living in spain you may get an unhelpful reply.

As resolution 2353 (XXII) refers to a 'colonial situation' and the new constitution is described as a 'non colonial one' there is scope for further missunderstanding.

PS: Merry Christmas.

--Gibnews 18:09, 24 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Gibnews, as you probably realised. I did not complain about any improvement to the article, simply about putting opinions on wikipedia's institutional voice. The way the sentence I removed was written gave me that impression. By the way, I think Gibraltarian has been ranting again (a copy and paste job, as usual). Have a nice xmas. Asteriontalk 18:12, 24 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Not a problem. It is difficult to look at things from a neutral perspective as I'm rather close to some of these things.

However, I value your opinion as being someone fairly balanced, so take a look at Disputed status of Gibraltar‎ where I have tried to clean up the language in the part about the spanish claim and have introduced some references on parts missing cites.

Also did a page on my site about the Iberia landing, which is a very positive thing, and they are fully booked.

Good shot of the runway, and the BBC presenter.

--Gibnews 22:28, 27 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

PS: reading further down the page see you are now an admin, Congratulations, I would have supported you. Thankfully the Gibraltar pages are now pretty stable, and its only random nutcases and the banned user (TBU).

--Gibnews

The person who yanked the criticism section continuously does so. He/she changes IP each time he/she logs in, but they consistently yank that section without any sort of discussion. He/she has been banned multiple times as a result of that. --Mhking 18:16, 24 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed -- I've been 'round that barn more than once. The page has been protected several times. I've just resigned myself to keep an eye on it, and the ear of an Admin or three. I suppose if and when I ever become one, that'll be one my ongoing tasks... --Mhking 18:22, 24 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Matriz[edit]

Olá. Bom Natal! it is not a Parish Church. well, it is also a parish church (Igreja Paroquial), but this is the main church of the municipality. I Think the English term is "First Church", translating directly into English it would be "Mother Church". As the name Matriz is important I choose to use the name Matriz directly, maybe not the best option, but I don't see an English name often used for these kind of churches. If there is, we can change it.--Pedro 14:34, 25 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I see. What about "Main Church"? Asteriontalk 14:36, 25 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Is Main church often used in English? ---Pedro 14:41, 25 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • A Igreja Matriz is also a Parish Church. But there are 14 parish churches. In each parish there can be several others. Matriz is the main one of these parish churches. Maybe in English there's not these kind of churches, and they only have cathedrals. But in Portugal cathedrals (Catedral or ) is only found in main cities (historically). The Name of Igreja Matriz can be: Igreja Matriz da Póvoa de Varzim (lit. Mother Church of Póvoa de Varzim) or Igreja Paroquial Nossa Senhora da Conceição (Parish Church of Our lady of Conception).--Pedro 15:00, 25 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • I've seen and used that term: "First Church", but that page also uses "Matriz Church in Itajai City", maybe because Matriz, like in here, is also a popular name. Well, I don't know. "First Church" then? For what I've seen, in the US several cities can be part of the same parish (church). While in here, each city can have several parish churches. In Póvoa, traditionally 3, now 5, with the city's expansion. --Pedro 15:18, 25 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thanks! I don't know, maybe the Brits have somekind of Matriz Church, and we don't know it yet. As for the article, I would appreciate some more help with the English. Feliz Navidad! --Pedro 16:15, 25 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re. Igreja Matriz[edit]

Hey Asterion. Well, I believe that a "igreja matrix" is the first church to exist in a town, before others are built there. Not sure though, and I don't know the exact correspondent in English as I'm not into churches really... Might be "first church" or "main church" alright. Congratulations. Here are what pass for words of wisdom from the puppy:
  1. Remember you will always protect the wrong version.
  2. Remember you must always follow the rules, except for when you ignore them. You will always pick the wrong one to do. (See #5)
  3. Remember to assume good faith and not bite. Remember that when you are applying these principles most diligently, you are probably dealing with a troll.
  4. Use the block ability sparingly. Enjoy the insults you receive when you do block.
  5. Remember when you make these errors, someone will be more than happy to point them out to you in dazzling clarity and descriptive terminology.
  6. and finally, Remember to contact me if you ever need assistance, and I will do what I am able.

Hello, could you please take a look at this user's contributions? It seems the account is only used for talk pages and then only barely related to the article's topic and definitely not to improving said article. Essentially his only intent seems to be to propagate a rather rare political opinion. I'm not entirely certain this is against policy, but it's certainly not improving wikipedia either. I left a test-2 warning on his talk page today after trying to engage him in a discussion on the slavery article talk page (and deleted at least on of his edits on a talk page). But I notice he's continued to post to various other talk pages.--Caranorn 22:19, 30 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

my name[edit]

Hi, just read your comment on my talk page. I have been editing in WP for quite a while and nobody has ever raised this before - I didn't even know it was a rule. I am Mark Thomas but not that Mark Thomas - it is after all quite a common name! Can one not call oneself by one's own name? I may want to raise this as an issue on Village Pump as it sounds strange - can you point to the policy for this please? Thanks. MarkThomas 16:31, 31 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OK, in fact, it appears that you are wrong - I just need to add a disambig hatnote, as stated in the guidelines you linked too:

Username disambiguation

Some Wikipedia usernames are similar to or identical to the titles of Wikipedia articles. This has the potential to create confusion when inexperienced users find these pages in search engine results. As a common courtesy, it is recommended that a simple disambiguation hatnote be added to direct readers to the correct page. The templates

,

, and {{userpage otheruse}} can be used to create a standard hatnote at the top of your user page and user talk page, or you can write your own. Similar disambiguation should be carried out if your username is similar to that of another Wikipedia editor. Examples are User:Carcharoth, User:Opabinia regalis, and User:John Reid.

Do you know some other policy that over-rides this? Thanks. MarkThomas 16:33, 31 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

<edit conflicted reply> Yes, as long as there is a disambiguation, you should be fine as I said on your talk page. Cheers, Asteriontalk 16:38, 31 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Hadn't really heard of him before I started with WP! MarkThomas 16:50, 31 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
