Invitation to join Wikipedia:WikiProject Eastern Orthodoxy

Hi there! I've noticed that you've edited articles pertaining to the Eastern Orthodox Church. I wanted to extend an invitation to you to join the WikiProject dedicated to organizing and improving articles on the subject, which can be found at: WikiProject Eastern Orthodoxy. This WikiProject was begun because a need was perceived to raise the level of quality of articles on Wikipedia which deal with the Eastern Orthodox Church.

Re: Polytonic Greek

Hi, my view is that for most articles that refer to Greek words polytonic should be used. Obsoletion of marks (including daseia, which translates to a letter "H" in so-called Latin alphabet) along with other educational modernizations led increasingly to the use of atonic system (most notable in Greek media) and other side-effects such as dyslexia to little children or newer generations unable to read even 20th century literature. Major problems are, one can not figure how Ηρακλής without polytonic, for example, gave Heracles and in composite words also where anti-, for example, is used in conjuction with words starting with daseia. Ultimately, a language that can not be developed further was created. Please, bear in mind that, even after 25 years a great percentage of books is published in polytonic and because of the problems created, a small but on-going debate is on about use of polytonic again. Myself, I was instructed not to use any marks one year before high school graduation (in 1982), but still do.User talk:Hveziris

History project

I did not forget you! But I'm very busy. Officially, I'm still on a Wikibreak! I checked the history wikiprojects in Wikipedia. There aren't many of them, but I think it is an interesting idea and it will not be difficult to recruit members. I have in mind more than 10 users that might be interested.
- I think we could use as a model Wikipedia:WikiProject History of India. Have a look, when you have time. For the next few days I'm too busy. But I believe that, if we decide it, during the Weekend I can start setting the page of the Wikiproject. And then we must start recruiting and organizing (main goals, plans, templates, priorities, rating article, possibly peer-reviewing-I like peer-reviewing articles!, ways of collaboration, topics, possible task forces [ancient, medieval, modern Greece] etc.). I created the page of the project! In (Wikipedia talk:WikiProject History of Greece) you'll see what I've done and what is left to be done according to my opinion. I tried to set a basic plan of work, but I was very tired to go into details. Right now I feel exhausted! Please, check the page and the talk page, and I think you'll find areas for contribution and creativity. Make your suggestions and additions, express your thoughts, your critics and anything else you feel appropriate. I believe that through co-operation we'll find our way. I think the most important thing is to keep the project alive and imrove its quality and its importance. If possible, spread the news and recruit other users. Greek Navy ships categories

Hello Argos'Dad! I see that there now exist two separate categories for HN ships, Category:Hellenic Navy ships, and the one you created today, Category:Ships of the Hellenic Navy. They both refer to the same thing, so I suggest that they be merged.Regards, Cplakidas 11:26, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

Greetings! I agree with you, but here is my concern--the "other" category has pages related to ships before they were decomissioned from the U.S., Royal Navy and Italian Regia Marine. I think that they should not be linked there, rather, we should create pages for all of those ships under their Greek names and link those. Will you work with me on this? I have been slowly building the 1917 fleet, and still have a ways to go. Most of the linked ex-US ships are from the period 1950-1999.Argos'Dad 17:17, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
Hmmm, I agree with your concern. However, I do not know what WP policy exists (if it does) regarding such cases. As far as I can see, most ships that have served in more than one navies link to a page with their original name, which then accounts their overall career. Either way, the list of ships can be made to include only the Greek names, by creating the relevant page, adding the category reference and then redirecting it to the US (or other) article (e.g. view the "HNS Sfendoni (D-85)" article). Anyhow, as soon as I'm done with my university exams I'll certainly work more on these articles. Regards, Cplakidas 13:16, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

Modernist Party

Hi, great work on the List of Prime Ministers of Greece. I was wondering about the correct translation for the Modernist Party. A few months ago, I had created Liberal Party (Greece) (1875) for this, but renamed it today. The difficulty is on how to translate Νεωτεριστικόν. I'm not a Greek speaker but asked some, and they say the word translates more as "innovative", with one person suggesting using the word "Neoterist", which also exists in English. I've checked the few reference books I have and none of them come up with a word for this particular party. What do you think?--Damac 14:19, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the encomia (another Greek word :) I am also struggling with the translation of the name of the party. My sense of the word is actually "progressive" in the American political vernacular (à la LaFollette), in that it was reformist and rejected the entire existing political structure of client-state parties (Russian, English, French) and the power of the king. However, the Greek word for Progressive is Proödeftiko, and so that won't work. I think 'innovative' or 'updated' captures the flavor, but sure doesn't sound like any party I have ever heard of :) So, I am interested in getting more views and making a decision. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

Constantine II of Greece

Hello Argos'Dad, It doesn't matter to me when the Greek Monarchy was abolished (June 1, 1973 OR December 13, 1974). What does bug me, is that the paragraph doesn't match the Infobox. The paragraph says 1974, the Inbox 1973. They should both match. GoodDay 18:30, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

The image used in Bernard de Marigny does not have a copyright/license tag. I know you are not the original uploader, but that editor is not active recently. Would you please provide one?
