The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. Dedication of churches[edit]

I quibble with your statement about the "dedication of churches to saints". I have reviewed a number of announcements by official Catholic and Anglican church sites that use the terms: "the church was dedicated to" (a saint or holy person). @Rococo1700 I have seen the same thing, and I attribute it to somewhat careless or inexact language, even though the sites were official. But if you examine the inscriptions above the entrances of many churches, especially in Rome, you will see that they carefully avoid saying that the church is dedicated to the saint. The phrase will usually be "IN (or AD) HONOREM" followed by the name of the saint or mystery. If there is a verb with the meaning of "dedicate" the dedicatee is God (or one of the Divine Persons).
