Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Car on Aluminum Platter Turntable.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Orphaned non-free image (Image:Car on Aluminum Platter Turntable.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Car on Aluminum Platter Turntable.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 06:24, 11 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for Image:Car on Aluminum Turntable.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Car on Aluminum Turntable.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 23:06, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

Reply[edit]

Hi there. Actually, there are several good reasons why your pages have been deleted.

  • They don't appear to be notable. In order for a company to be listed in wikipedia, it needs to meet the following guideline: WP:CORP. The articles you created didn't meet this bar. This means they qualified for immediate deletion without warning under the speedy deletion policy. However, even if your company was found to be notable:
  • Creating an article about yourself or any organization with which you are involved violates the conflict of interest policy. Basically, the argument is that since it is your company, you are likely to be biased. And wikipedia articles must be written from an unbiased, neutral point of view (this is a non-negotiable rule). So, if your company is truly notable, then you should wait until someone eventually creates a page for you.
  • This is not a minor point -- there is a strong consensus supporting this view.
  • And lastly, creating a non-notable article about your own company is pretty much the definition of using wikipedia as a soapbox (which is prohibited under WP:SOAP).

Now, if you think that your company has received sufficient (non-trivial) coverage from independent reliable sources (as defined by WP:RS), then I'd be glad to help you create an article here. Best, --Bfigura (talk) 20:23, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

To be honest, that doesn't really sound like significant, independent coverage. You really need an article or two from a reliable source devoted to the company. Maybe something from a business mag? --Bfigura (talk) 05:03, 15 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Carspin[edit]

Hi there. I can't really comment on the sources, since I don't remember off the top of my head (and the pages are now deleted). But I can say that I don't think they proved the notability of the company. (Generally you need a few significant writeups in reliable media, ie magazines, newspapers, reputable online sites (ie, not blogs, or anything that is primarily user-generated content). If you want to take another stab at it, I'd create a test drive in your userspace first (ie, someplace like 'http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Alanbkahn/Draft1') so that it doesn't get deleted again, and then that way you can get some feedback.
Also, as a note, creating a bunch of different pages with only different spellings is generally a bad idea. (It looks very spammy, plus it makes it hard to keep them all up to date. We generally use redirects for this sort of thing).
And by people being nasty, you mean the people writing on my talk page? Eh, I'm sure other people get worse :) Anyway, let me know if this was at all helpful, or if you have any other questions. (PS: next time, please use the plus button to add a new heading to my talk page, then sign your post -- I had to hunt for a sec to figure out who wrote what.) Best, --Bfigura (talk) 04:02, 16 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I just meant that next to the 'Edit this page' tab, there's another tab with a '+' tab that starts a new topic. Nothing huge. --Bfigura (talk) 19:11, 16 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Regarding the carspin article: I just took a look, and I think it needs some independent sourcing before it would be ready to do. If you put it up now, it'll probably just get deleted under WP:A7 (failure to assert notability). I just did some google searching, but I wasn't able to turn up any references that seemed appropriate (I found this [1], but I don't think it would be good enough). The company's US website has a few news stories, but they don't mention the product or company directly. Do you know of any other references? (They don't have to be online, although that is preferred). Best, --Bfigura (talk) 19:32, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Regarding the references, I don't think the thomas net one will help too much, since it's more of a listing than an article discussing the company. The second one (fixit) is better, but in my honest opinion, this might be a lost cause. I hate to sound negative, but the company might not be notable enough (even with the on air interview). You can try recreating the article, but if you do, I'd strongly suggest leaving a note on the talk page of the new article saying that you're trying to address the problems that led to deletion previously. (Make sure you sign that post by typing ~~~~ at the end.) Best of luck, and let me know if I can help. --Bfigura (talk) 01:37, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

New Section for Carspin[edit]

Not sure. A WSJ mention should help, but the fact that it's pseudo-advertising isn't great. If you add in the new reference, you could try, but I think it's about 50/50. You could try marking it as a stub (see WP:STUB), and leaving a note on the talk page that you're trying to improve the page, and that you'd welcome suggestions. Also, since you're genuinely trying to contribute here, it probably wouldn't hurt if you had a user page (see WP:USER). It'll help position you as a genuine contributor rather than some spammer person. Best, --Bfigura (talk) 23:08, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on User:Alanbkahn, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be blatant advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the general criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 11, as well as the guidelines on spam.

If you can indicate why the subject of this article is not blatant advertising, you may contest the tagging. To do this, please add {{hangon}} on the top of the article and leave a note on [[Talk:User:Alanbkahn|the article's talk page]] explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would help make it encyclopedic, as well as adding any citations from reliable sources to ensure that the article will be verifiable. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Calton | Talk 06:19, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
