Serious warning[edit]

Wikipedia operates on the principle that every contributor has a right if they wish to remain completely anonymous. Wikipedia policy on that issue is strictly enforced. Posting private information about a user with the intent to annoy, threaten or harass, specifically their (alleged) name and/or personal details, is strictly prohibited as harassment, and users who do that are often immediately blocked from editing Wikipedia.

Such posting can cause offense or embarrassment to the victim of the posting, not least because it means that their name, and any personal criticism or allegations made against them can then appear on web searches. If you have posted such information, please remove it immediately. Please then follow the link to this page and follow the instructions there, including emailing this address. It will then be removed from the archives of Wikipedia. Thank you for your cooperation.

If you do not ensure that personal information you posted is removed from this site you will be blocked from editing this site. Remember: Wikipedia's privacy policy is there to protect the privacy of every user, including you. - auburnpilot talk 06:56, 30 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Info removed[edit]

I have insured the information can no longer be found within Wikipedia's page history. The only thing I required of you is to never post personal information again. Do so and your account will be blocked from editing. - auburnpilot talk 07:14, 30 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Seriously, stop[edit]

I am not going to warn you again. You just posted the user's information on my talk page; that is unacceptable. If I find you've posted his information anywhere else on Wikipedia, I will indefinitely block this account. - auburnpilot talk 18:43, 30 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

RE:Anchors[edit]

Hi Hylas,

Thanks for the additional information. Please understand that I'm not trying to be difficult. I've had no former knowledge of anchors and don't even own a boat. I can accept that a ratio of holding power to surface area is the industry standard for evaluating an anchor design. My statement was based on an assumption that I think any average reader would make. It just seemed to me a 100 lb anchor will naturally have more holding power than a 10 lb anchor. However, if the heavy anchor holds 500 lb and the lighter anchor holds 100 lb, isn't the lighter anchor a better design? (In fact, twice as good?) Of course, you could reword the example to make the same comparison for two different surface areas. If surface area is the more important factor, perhaps we should edit the article to support that.
Regarding my comparisons, isn't this the correct link for the original SAIL published study (page 63)? Accepting Badmonkey's claim that "Max before releasing" is the critical issue, Rocna had the highest, somewhere around 4800 lbs. Even in the "Max pull" category, Rocna came in second behind Fortress. Perhaps I am not looking at the correct data. In any case, you and Russeasby have brought up some good points (other independent studies, sea beds that may have favored certain designs, the fact that West Marine didn't feel it was necessary to scale the data to weight or surface area), and I'll comment on anchor's talk page sometime today.
By the way, the NPOV acronym you asked about stands for Neutral Point-of-View. Hoof Hearted 13:39, 30 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Answer to Auburnpilot[edit]

Seriously, stop

Well. I'm not at all familiar with the Wikipedia's very complicated procedures.. And it seems that the GREAT punition is to block poeple who doesn't fully know the rules..

I have posted user's information on your talk page, What a crime!.. I did think a talk page was to talk!.. but tell me Where should I have posted them.. perhaps it is also a crime to answer here, on my own talk page.. and then I will be definitively blocked.. is my own talk page also a no mans's land where I shouldn't post anything??

In this regard, I think it would have been more fair to contact me and to explain what I have to do.. (hylas@free.fr)

A Wiki where you need to spend years of study before knowing all the rules is not an usefull one..

PLEASE can somebody help me and explain me what I should do to stop an Editor who is using Wikipedia to make the promotion of one commercial product??

You can post where and whenever you want. BUT you may never post another user's personal information anywhere on Wikipedia. It is that simple. - auburnpilot talk 08:35, 31 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry Auburnpilot, if I did something wrong, I apologize..

But as my post has been suprest, I can’t go back and read it again.. but I don’t remember having posted another user's personal information.. anywhere..

Anyway.. I came to the “anchor article” to stop somebody who is very closely related to a manufacturer,(*) to use Wikipedia to make his owm promotion about his products.. My action is on a good way to succeed, so I have nothing more to do on such a complicated Wiki, and now you can indefinitely block my account..

(*) is that a “user's personal information” ?

RFC[edit]

Hello Alain. Thanks for your contribution to the RFC on Badmonkey. It might be better if you could sign your comment there as 'Alain POIRAUD', which I understand is your actual Wikipedia user name. Hylas is a bit obscure (the Greek word for wood?). One of your advantages in any anchor debate is that you are forthright about your real life identity. In that way you are well-prepared for any COI issues. EdJohnston 00:05, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Alain, click the "my preferences" link at the top of the page, I suspect you have Hylas entered in the "signature" field. Russeasby 01:43, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Alain POIRAUD 02:04, 24 April 2007 (UTC) Well.. IT WORKS..[reply]

Thanks to both EdJohnston and Russeasby.. I have been able to change my signature.. In a few years, I will become an expert on WP.. :0)
