importance versus notability[edit]

Your advice was relevant but potentially misleading. One of the more common misconceptions is that an article can be speedily deleted if it does not demonstrate notability. While notability is required for an article to survive in WP, it is not a CSD criteria. The CSD criteria uses a lower hurdle of failing to "indicate why its subject is important or significant". That test is weaker than notability. IMP, the article failed to meet the weaker standard and was deleted. However, there are many cases where an article meets the weaker standard, but does not credibly assert notability. In those cases, the AfD (or Prod) process must be used.

As an aside, congrats on the barnstar.--SPhilbrickT 12:00, 23 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Okay – I'll keep that in mind. Thanks!  ajmint  (talkedits) 14:36, 23 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article Robin trocki has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Does not meet notability guidelines. Only appeared in a few episodes of one TV series (and the character is now dead). No significant coverage in reliable sources.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in youredit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop theproposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, andarticles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. ... discospinster talk 16:45, 23 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Need another crop done...[edit]

Can you take a crack at doing a crop of File:Jim Plunkett.gif? Need a facial shot for the infobox at Jim Plunkett. Plunkett is the guy on the phone in the 16 jersey. Thanks again! --Jayron32 02:57, 3 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on The Killer Underpants, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

the content has been moved to List of Jiggy McCue Books

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion," which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit thethe page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged forspeedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administratoruserfy the page or email a copy to you. Rcsprinter (talk) 08:34, 9 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

New Page Triage engagement strategy released[edit]

Hey guys!

I'm dropping you a note because you filled out the New Page Patrol survey, and indicated you'd be interested in being contacted about follow-up work. This is to notify you that we've finally released both the initial documentation about the project and also the engagement strategy, which sets out how we plan to work with the community on this. Please give both a read, and leave any comments or suggestions you have on the talkpage, on mytalkpage, or in my inbox - okeyes@wikimedia.org.

It's awesome to finally get to start work on this! :). Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 02:11, 3 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You may have noticed over the past few days that the MOTD that you link to on your user page has simply displayed a red link. This is due to the fact that not enough people are reviewing pending MOTDs here. Please help us keep the MOTD template alive and simply go and review a few of the MOTDs in the list. That way we can have a real MOTD in the future rather than re-using (This space for rent). Any help would be appreciated! –pjoef (talkcontribs) 16:05, 6 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
