Welcome to Wikipedia from Jalexander[edit]

Hi, Ajadams94! I want to welcome you to Wikipedia and thank you for your edit! I hope you like editing here and being part of Wikipedia and that we will see you around for a long time to come. When you leave messages on Discussion pages (like this one, or the article discussion pages) you want to try and remember to sign your name using four tildes (~~~~); when you save the page, this will turn into your name and the date. If you need help, check out the Wikipedia Cheatsheet, Wikipedia:Questions or of course feel free to ask me on my discussion page. If you put {{helpme}} (and a note about what you need help with), someone will come by shortly to answer your question. Again, welcome to Wikipedia! Jalexander--WMF 21:41, 18 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your school article at Kincardine District Secondary School. It's great to get more set up. If you need any help or have any questions please feel free to let me know, it would be great if we could get some Reliable sources for the information on the page (usually thinks like newspapers, books, tv channels or magazines) and I'd be happy to help out with that. Again welcome to Wikipedia! Jalexander--WMF 21:41, 18 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of "Alexander Mackenzie (utility tycoon)"[edit]

A page you created, Alexander Mackenzie (utility tycoon), has been tagged for deletion, as it meets one or more of the criteria for speedy deletion; specifically, it is a blatant copyright infringement.

You are welcome to contribute content which complies with our content policies and any applicable inclusion guidelines. However, please do not simply re-create the page with the same content. You may also wish to read our introduction to editing and guide to writing your first article.

The article Allan Cameron and William Withers has been proposed for deletion because under Wikipedia policy, all biographies of living persons created after March 18, 2010, must have at least one source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't take offense. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners or ask at Wikipedia:Help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. A tag has been placed on Coombe Furniture Factory Company Limited requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. Getting started creating new articles on Wikipedia can be tricky, and you might like to try creating a draft version first, which you can then ask for feedback on if necessary, without the risk of speedy deletion. Do make sure you also read help available to you, including Your First Article and the Tutorial. You might also like to try the Article Wizard, which has an option to create a draft version. Orphaned non-free media (File:Cwossa.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Cwossa.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Kincardine[edit]

Please note that per Wikipedia's rules, the municipality always gets title precedence, because it's the primary incorporated entity. The individual community of the same name that is inside the larger municipality is allowed a separate article only if you can add reliable sources which are specifically about it separately from the rest of the municipality, which none of the ones that you retained were. For instance, you did not provide any legitimate source for the community of Kincardine having a population of 6,000; you simply hung onto the municipal population reference even though it failed to support your claimed number in any way. Wikipedia does not allow unsourced population estimates, and you are not allowed to claim or assert any population figure that is not taken exactly from the last official release of Statistics Canada census data — you must provide an exact Statistics Canada population figure or no population figure at all.

Without proper sources that are specifically about Kincardine-the-community itself, it is only allowed to be a redirect to the larger municipality and is not allowed to have its own separate article — and even if you can add proper sources, the municipality gets the title "Kincardine, Ontario" and the community gets a subordinate title such as "Kincardine, Ontario (community)". Under no circumstances does the actual incorporated municipal entity ever go at an alternate title like "Municipality of X" instead of just "X"; if there's a naming conflict, the municipality gets the primary title and the smaller community gets the disambiguated one.

Just to be clear, you are allowed to write separate articles about the individual communities within the municipality, if proper sourcing is available. But if you can write and source a proper article about the community of Kincardine, then it goes at a new, separate subtitle and does not get to replace the municipality as the topic of the existing title. Municipalities on Wikipedia go at their short form names (either "Name" or "Name, Ontario") with no exceptions; if there's a smaller community within the municipality that has the same name, it gets a disambiguated subtitle such as "Name, Ontario (community)" or "Name, Ontario (neighbourhood)". Bearcat (talk) 21:57, 8 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'd recommend that if you do want to write a separate article about the community, you work on it in your own userspace (e.g. at User:Ajadams94/Sandbox.) Then, when it is ready to go live, you can copy and paste it into Kincardine, Ontario (community). But the existing article must remain about the municipality as a whole, with the community's separate article as a supplement; the community does not get to replace the municipality as the main topic. Hope that helps. Bearcat (talk) 22:55, 8 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Kincardine[edit]

For the record, this is not the first time I've pointed this out to you: you may not rewrite Kincardine, Ontario to be about the village instead of the incorporated municipality that it's a part of; per Wikipedia's naming conventions, the municipality gets the Kincardine, Ontario title. If you can write a properly referenced article about the village, you may do so at Kincardine (community) or another similar title — but it is a subordinate entity to the municipality, and does not get to replace the municipality as the primary topic.

Please note, as well, that you can be editblocked if you don't start following Wikipedia's rules. Bearcat (talk) 01:15, 21 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Firstly, no, Toronto is not in York Region. Toronto is adjacent to York Region, but is not part of it. And the comparison between a community being inside a municipality and a municipality being inside a county is a false and irrelevant one anyway, because they aren't the same situation at all.
Secondly, I did not say that the community cannot have an article; I said that it cannot have an unreferenced article. If you can add proper reliable sources about the community as a separate topic in its own right, then it can certainly have its own separate article — but just like any other topic on Wikipedia, it is not allowed to have an article that does not cite legitimate sources. And whether it has its own separate article or not, you are not allowed to hijack an existing article either — you need to create a new one at the title I indicate below, and may not simply replace the current article.
Thirdly, Wikipedia has naming conventions which must be followed — namely, there are exactly no circumstances under which any municipality in Canada may ever be shunted off to a "Town of...", "City of..." or "Municipality of..." title. Rather, a municipality goes at "Place" or "Place, Province" with no exceptions. If there's a smaller community within that municipality in conflict for the same "Place, Province" name, then the municipality still gets precedence for the "Place, Province" title, because it is larger, incorporated and has a municipal government and statistical census data published by Statistics Canada, and is thus the more important entity. A community can have "Place, Province" if its name is unique — but if its name conflicts with another thing, the more important thing gets the plain name and the less important one gets a disambiguated title. Accordingly, the municipality gets Kincardine, Ontario and the community within it gets Kincardine, Ontario (community) or another title which is disambiguated to make clear that it is subordinate to the municipality. That's the rules on here, and there will be no further discussion on that point — our naming conventions are organized around the principle of consistency from one article to the next, not the principle of "one guy says this title should mean that other thing instead of this one". This is an automated message from MadmanBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Town of Kincardine, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://krassoc.wordpress.com/2013/06/10/kincardine-methodist-church-bruce-county/.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

If substantial content is duplicated and it is not public domain or available under a compatible license, it will be deleted. A tag has been placed on Allan Thompson (Canadian) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The article 7ACRES has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Not a notable company per WP:AUD. Only independent coverage is in the local Kincardine News.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. power~enwiki (π, ν) 20:19, 13 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Jon Barinholtz moved to draftspace[edit]

An article you recently created, Jon Barinholtz, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.
