Can you check El Salvador national football team for copyright violation?

I was performing a requested copyedit of this page, and noted that that the VAST majority of the text is a tranlated copyright infringement of http://www.fesfut.org.sv/historia.php . I flagged the article. jsfouche ☽☾ talk 03:47, 6 November 2010 (UTC)

Yes, some parts are so closely paraphrased that it would at least be considered plagiarism. As a user has vowed to fix it, let's give them some time to. I am tempted to just restore this revision, which, at a glance, seems to be clean(er) than the current one. To be honest, this is giving me a headache. I will contact another user way more knowledgable in this area than me and see what they have to say. Thanks for catching this! Airplaneman 03:54, 6 November 2010 (UTC)
Airplaneman, do you think the article is now ready (free of noted infridgement)? Thank you. Jaime070996 (talk) 22:53, 6 November 2010 (UTC)

continued disruption from IP 50.9.160.35

I see this fellow has had a number of warnings on his talk page. Sheesh. His latest action was to remove the AFD tag from the article Bolo Na Tumi Amar currently under discussion at AFD. Considering the number of warnings he's received since October 10, might it now be time for a temp block of the IP? Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 05:22, 6 November 2010 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) They had done it on 2 other pages too. I've reverted and given them another final warning - but it appears they stopped editing almost 2 hrs ago so a block may not be needed now.  7  05:51, 6 November 2010 (UTC)

Hello, Airplaneman! Back in September you gave the page Black operation semi-protection for a month because of repeated vandalism by IPs. Things were very quiet for that month, but now that the protection has expired it has started up again. The page is getting vandalized an average of about once a day. Maybe that isn't a lot by Wikipedia standards; I'm sure many pages are worse. And the page has enough "watchers" that things get reverted fairly quickly. But please take a look at it and see what you think. Thanks! --MelanieN (talk) 15:47, 6 November 2010 (UTC)

Vandalism wasn't enough for protection four days ago when you asked, but it now is; I've protected it for one week. Airplaneman 22:26, 10 November 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for the protection - and thanks for the guidance about what is and what isn't enough vandalism to require protection. That page certainly did go crazy over the last two days! Hopefully it will calm down after a week. --MelanieN (talk) 01:37, 11 November 2010 (UTC)

Flight nurse

Greetings! Can you move Flight nurse to Flight nursing? I tried, but there were a couple of old edits on Flight nursing. Those old edits are incorporated into the Flight nurse page. The rationale for the move is to maintain consistency with other nursing specialty articles which list the name of the specialty following by "nursing". I am working on articles over at the Wiki Nursing Project. Thanks!!! jsfouche ☽☾ talk 17:01, 6 November 2010 (UTC)

Actually, it seems to be a mix of speciality and role title (eg Military nurse, Advanced practice nurse. I would have said the article deals with the role of a flight nurse, not the speciality of nursing on an airoplane. --Elen of the Roads (talk) 21:10, 6 November 2010 (UTC)
  • Most of the nursing specialty articles discuss the specialty and the role. The primary reason for the request is for standardizing the nursing articles, which are listed by the specialty. jsfouche ☽☾ talk 00:57, 7 November 2010 (UTC)
Yes, but this article appears to just discuss the role. Are you proposing to move Military nurse and District nurse also?— Preceding unsigned comment added by Elen of the Roads (talkcontribs) 01:40, 7 November 2010

Follow up on Protection Removed

Please be advised that since the protection on the Michael Welner page was removed, over 20 edits have been made by Mr.grantevans2, including adding a disproportionate section re: Omar Khadr, using unreliable sources and disseminating factually inaccurate content. Such an investment from Mr.grantevans2 is a subtle attempt to vandalize the page and strip it of its reliability as a source to the public – propaganda if you will. I appreciate your input on how to resolve this. Thank you. A few of the misrepresentations include: … "to testify at Omar Khadr's sentencing hearing in Guantanamo Bay. Welner testified he had spent eight hours examing Khadr, and 500-600 hours preparing his testimony." Erroneous. Dr. Welner testified that he had spent 500-600 hours researching this case, not 500-600 preparing his testimony "Welner called Khadr a 'Jihadi rock star'" No, Dr. Welner specifically quoted the Deputy Camp Commander as saying that the other detainees regarded him as a “rock star”. This is reflected in the trial transcript. …"and described the Qur’an as 'a criminal book that forces people to do criminal things.'" Dr. Welner specifically said that he did not regard the Quran as a criminal book and that if he had, he would not have recommended deradicalization. (The reference to the criminal book of the Quran is meant to create a threat and to inflame Muslims) "Welner called "political" Sennels assertion that Musims can not integrate into western societies." This misstates Dr. Welner’s testimony. He spoke quite openly about how Muslims integrate into New York, and further pointed out that Sennels assertion was substantively what German Chancellor Angela Merkel had stated.Stewaj7 (talk) 16:19, 8 November 2010 (UTC)

Looks like you guys are working it out. I'll keep an eye on the article. Don't go and make a ton more reverts again, ever, though; that's just a waste of edits and doesn't get anywhere. Airplaneman 22:02, 10 November 2010 (UTC)

Bill Gates Criticism

Hello Airplaneman,

A few months ago, I added to a section of Bill Gates page entitled "Criticism". In it, I discussed what is a fairly common criticism of Bill Gates, that he often closely mimics other's software, and used a source for one of the criticisms. My comments were removed, and I'd like to ask what you feel would be the proper way to address the topic.

I certainly do not want to vandalize any page, and was not intending to do so. However, I feel I was not vandalizing. Bill Gates has many good attributes, such as his philanthropy and obvious intelligence and skill in the world of software. However, like any human, has negative attributes as well. It is important to understand and be able to discuss and even refute criticisms to be able to understand the more positive attributes.

As of now, there isn't any criticism section on Bill Gates page. Surely, some criticism section is warranted. I thought I was summarizing the common detractments in a civil manner, but I must have been mistaken. What would be the appropriate way of making my remarks so that I'm not seen as vandalizing his page, but still mentioning criticisms that are often mentioned when he is discussed?

Thank you.

Dredlox (talk) 14:53, 9 November 2010 (UTC) Neal

Hi Dredlox. Here is the stuff I removed; sorry for using the "revert as vandalism" button on Twinkle, a handy editing tool which you may want to try out if you're not on Internet Explorer. In hindsight, your additions were in good faith and I should have noted that. The main reason I decided to remove them was because they did not appear to adhere to the neutral point of view policy. Also, they weren't reliably or well-referenced. This is critical, especially for biographical articles, so living people aren't adversely affected by their entries on the world's largest encyclopedia. In addition, criticism as well as successes are woven into the other sections of articles; therefore, a section solely dedicated to criticism is not needed. There's no "praise" section, for instance.
Those are my main points, and I know it's frustrating to have your work removed, especially when you donate time and effort to do it. Regards, Airplaneman 21:58, 10 November 2010 (UTC)

Hello Airplaneman, and thank you for participating in my RfA, which failed with 20 support votes, 34 oppose votes, and 11 neutral votes. All the feedback was much appreciated, and the concerns that were brought up are surely not falling on deaf ears. I will strive to listen to everyone's feedback in the days, weeks, and months to come, and I hope that I will eventually be able to gain the community's trust and receive the admin tools so I can further benefit this encyclopedia. when do you plan to become more active, similar to the summer months? Nascar1996 19:07, 11 November 2010 (UTC)

Speaking as a TPS, just like quite a lot of younger Wikipedians (like me) school really cuts down on time spent on Wikipedia, that's seems like what's happening to Airplaneman. Derild4921 19:39, 11 November 2010 (UTC)
Thats what I was thinking that it would be, but I was wondering how long he was going to be under this because I would like him to review some articles, but I can wait untill others can. Nascar1996 20:01, 11 November 2010 (UTC)

I will be away for the second half of December visiting family (and yes, I will ride a plane to travel :D). My Thanksgiving doesn't look too hectic though. What articles did you want to to take a look at? Airplaneman 01:05, 12 November 2010 (UTC)
Mostly 2010 Sylvania 300. I believe that it is very close to FA-class, and it has been nominated fo GA, by myself. I just want to see how the main part of the article is. I have been basing most of it from FA-class Formula One articles. There are also four other articles that are nominated for GA, two of them that I am 99% that they will not be promoted. Also how do you think of this image as valued or FA (if you know)? Nascar1996 01:18, 12 November 2010 (UTC)

At a glance, Sylvania 300 needs work, especially with the prose, but it looks like a solid article. As for the pic, I don't think it's near VP or FP quality. Although I'm no expert, there are many things about the picture I could nitpick about, including the positioning of the main subjects (car and pit crew), which are a bit to the right instead of center. I don't want to say more lest I epicly fail and give wrong tips. That doesn't mean it's a bad picture; it's pretty good actually. I just don't think it's a VP or FP. You can always nominate it and see what others have to say. Airplaneman 01:25, 13 November 2010 (UTC)

About Page Restoration

My T. Michael Riddle page was deleted and the reason seemed to be because you believed it was for advertising purposes. I assure you the page was meant to be educational, informing people and sharing knowledge about who he is. You have a similar page for Ronnie Montrose at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ronnie_Montrose that was not deleted. My page was written in a similar way, but it would help if you sent a message asking about concerns you may have before deleting a page to see if they might be clarified.

I would like my page to be restored and am willing to discuss any concerns you might have had with it. The deletion would have had to occur between Friday and today (Monday, Nov. 15), if that helps. If there was something specific about the page that need be taken out, I am willing to revise and reword what I need to but I rather not go through having to recreate the whole page.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Best regards,

Holly

Done :). For future reference, it's a {{db-u1}} candidate because it doesn't contain talk history as a cut and paste archive, and it's part of your userspace. Airplaneman 01:57, 16 November 2010 (UTC)
I find it easier to contact you, but I'll follow your suggestion anyways. I have requested it like that before, but you do it a lot faster than others who have to read the category that has all of them on it. Nascar1996 01:59, 16 November 2010 (UTC)
Yea, CAT:SD has been quite backlogged lately. We need more admins patrolling it, especially the A7 nominations because it may take a few minutes to review a situation and make a good decision about what to do; if only one person is doing that, the backlog will go nowhere. Oh well. Airplaneman 02:06, 16 November 2010 (UTC)
Changing to a different subject, it is about time to get ready for next season: 2011, as though this coming weekend is the final race of this year. What exactly should I put in the background section on the 2011 Daytona 500, since there are no pre-race point standings. Maybe include some quotes from the Budweiser Shootout? Nascar1996 02:13, 16 November 2010 (UTC)

a couple of files of not-working Vector skin issues have no descriptions. I really don't have any use for them anymore, so I thought maybe you could delete them. Hi Zman. The band doesn't appear to meet our inclusion policy for bands and qualified for speedy deletion. I hope you understand, Airplaneman 04:43, 20 November 2010 (UTC)

State Of Liberty Online

Hi Airplaneman,

You deleted a page that I created earlier on tonight (its title is in the subject).

"A7: Article about a web site, blog, web forum, webcomic, podcast, browser game, or similar web content, which does not indicate the importance or significance of the subject"

I don't understand, the reason for deletion is about the importance of the subject, however, while that may be the case, the page bears no relation to any of those categories mentioned above. The closest is browser game, as it is a game, just not a browser game.

Also, any other tips you may have as to why a "Speedy Deletion" was prompted, I will endeavor to try again bearing those in mind - it would be greatly appreciated.

Hey, you might want to read this. Thanks, Περσεύς|Talk to me 13:43, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
Also, if you might say this, Wikipedia does not need quantity, but quality. It was not particularly notable. Περσεύς|Talk to me 13:46, 20 November 2010 (UTC)

Hi DECEiFER; I interpreted the A7 request as no indication of notability for web content in general; Perseus linked WP:A7 above, which explains the rationale in more detail. Indeed, the summary was potentially misleading. Mainly, the nominator did not see how this page passed WP:A7, and I concurred. The subject also does not seem to pass our website/internet content notability guidelines. I know this bunch of policies just spit at you is a bit much, but since Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, these policies help it keep a reasonable size and quality (articles with less notability generally have less things about them, leading to rather short articles - ideally, there should be substantial verifiable content within the article). I know creating Wikipedia pages take some time and the last thing I want to do is delete your work, therefore wasting your donated time, but I hope this explains why I did. If you have further questions, just ask. Regards, Airplaneman 21:08, 20 November 2010 (UTC)

Hi,

Thank you both for your replies. If I'm to remedy the situation, I'll need a copy of the article again. Is there any chance I can find it in my account or have it emailed to my account's email address?

Kind regards,
DECEiFER (talk) 00:03, 21 November 2010 (UTC)

I'm not sure it will survive here because of what I said above, but I've restored it to User:DECEiFER/State Of Liberty Online, where you can work on it in peace until it's ready for publication into the article space. As always, if you have any questions, just ask. Happy editing, Airplaneman 05:07, 21 November 2010 (UTC)

Hi,

Thank you for restoring the article to my user space. I will work on it over the coming weeks, and I do feel that if other articles of similar purpose can become published (eg. Multi Theft Auto), then this article can also make the cut with work put in to bettering the article, and with some time for the entity it represents to evolve a little.

Thank you for your help, again.

Re: Rita Davidson, accordionist

Hello,

I have just created a wikipedia page about Rita Davidson, I am a concert accordionist, National Editor of www.accordionusa.com and recently gave concerts and created an important website in memory of my music teacher, Eugene Ettore, an important composer for the accordion.

Please refer to www.accordionusa.com and you will see that I am the editor of the site.

Click on "Eugene Ettore" to see his website.

I also would like to create a wikipedia page about Eugene Ettore. Many accordionists and musicians around the world are interested in him. I would also like to create a page for him.

I just created an account this evening. This is all new to me and I appreciate your suggestions, corrections, etc. Thank you, Rita

(talk page stalker) Not to disappoint you, but can you read WP:COI and WP:POV before you start? WikiCopter (radiosortiesimageslostdefenseattack) 04:49, 22 November 2010 (UTC)

Hello Rita, nice to meet you. WikiCopter gives good suggestions. I am really sorry to say this, but I am not sure that the two subjects you mentioned above meet our notability standards for musicians. I think that's why a page on you was tagged for deletion before (it's nothing personal, I promise). If you can find significant coverage from multiple reliable third party sources that verify that these two individuals pass the notability guideline, a good way to go about making these articles would be to create subpages in your userspace where you can draft them and get feedback before publishing. I would be more than happy to help, although I'm on a sort of semi-break and may not be available consistently. Another good place to seek feedback is Wikipedia:Requests for feedback. Here are links if you would like to create drafts:

If you haven't already, Wikipedia:Your first article would also be a good thing to read. I know this is a ton of stuff to process. When I first came here, I created two articles (worse than yours, mind you) that were deleted. I certainly didn't read any of these pages; instead, I learned by doing, making lots of mistakes along the way. So dig in, and I'll be on standby, as will many others. Happy editing, Airplaneman 06:19, 27 November 2010 (UTC)

Article about the Uniform Prudent Management of Institutional Funds Act (UPMIFA)

Hello! I just posted this article on my subpage with the same name ("Uniform Prudent Management of Institutional Funds Act (UPMIFA)"). Hello Michael; you're not bothering me :). I am more than glad to help. It's a nice break from the trolls and vandals I sometimes have to deal with. Link for convenience User:Michael Leeman/Uniform Prudent Management of Institutional Funds Act (UPMIFA). The best name to move it to would be Uniform Prudent Management of Institutional Funds Act [1], once it's ready. I'll make some tweaks, which you can look at through the page history by viewing the "history" tab (more on that here). Overall, the article is good enough to survive out in the harsh article-space environment :). It just needs some formatting changes, which I will make. Best, Airplaneman 06:29, 27 November 2010 (UTC)

OK, some nit-picking: What is a model law? (add a link or define it). Otherwise, it looks good, and I will publish it. It's well-written and I enjoyed reading it :). It taught me something as well! Airplaneman 06:37, 27 November 2010 (UTC)

Also, I have removed/added some categories; please make sure they are relevant (if not, please remove!). Also, should this be added to List of Uniform Acts (United States)? Airplaneman 06:40, 27 November 2010 (UTC)

WikiProject Warriors role call

Hello Airplaneman. You have listed yourself as an active contributor of WikiProject Warriors, but as we are trying to see who is still active, we have put all active contributors under "status pending." If you are still active, go to Wikipedia:WikiProject Warriors and move your name to "Active." Move your name to "Inactive" if you no longer wish to contribute. You may always move it back. On December 27, 2024, all members who have not listed themselves as active will be moved to the "inactive" section. Thank you!

That was fast - we had an edit conflict on the editor's talk page while I was adding the speedy warning and welcome template! Thanks. PamD (talk) 08:50, 27 November 2010 (UTC)

No problem; the message I left on your talk page doesn't apply anymore, then :). Airplaneman 08:52, 27 November 2010 (UTC)

Move and history

A quick question, probably trivial, but it will save me digging around when I come back to it. I notice you moved Eritreum melakeghebrekristosi, and that you needed to delete the target. I assume this means there was more than one edit in the history, has that been restored or were the edits trivial? cygnis insignis 11:14, 27 November 2010 (UTC)

Hi Cygnis. Yes, the two edits were trivial. One was for creating the redirect [17:34, 6 December 2006 . . Isfisk (talk | contribs | block) (43 bytes) (redirect)], and the other was requesting the move [06:37, 27 November 2010 . . ErikHaugen (talk | contribs | block) (224 bytes) (trying to move to genus name)]. I'm not sure pages with one edit don't need deletion when moving, though. Hope this clears things up (if it doesn't, ask again :D) and nice to meet you. Airplaneman 18:33, 27 November 2010 (UTC)
Very helpful, thanks. 'Moving over a redirect' is possible, if there is only one edit, if there are two or more edits the software will offer to delete the target. Cheers, cygnis insignis 01:48, 28 November 2010 (UTC)
Ah, I have always wondered how people "moved over redirects" :). Now I know! Thanks, Airplaneman 02:53, 28 November 2010 (UTC)

Nastel Article

Hi Airplaneman,

Thanks for the welcome on the Nastel article. I am responding to your comment about appropriate license for the image I placed in the company box. I wasn't sure what license to specify. The image is owned by Nastel Technologies. It was created by their art department. I am an employee of Nastel Technologies and have full permission to place this image in the article. What license type should I specify? Thanks for your help.

Regards,

Charley

Hello Charley; it's heartwarming to see someone I welcomed over a year ago still editing :). That's what keeps the encyclopedia going. You used the right copyright tag. I deleted the older, high-res version of the image per WP:F5. I have also made some tweaks to the fair use rationale; I don't do this often, and it's complicated, so I'm learning as well. If you have any further questions, just ask. Happy editing, Airplaneman 00:54, 30 November 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for your help!

Airplaneman,

The page I wrote a year ago has never had the editorial comments removed. I believe I responded to the comments and fixed the page. Can you let me know if the comments can be removed? The page is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Business_transaction_performance

Thanks,

Charley

Looks like that was taken care of ;). Sorry I didn't get back earlier. Airplaneman 04:39, 5 December 2010 (UTC)

Page was recreated. JDDJS (talk) 02:20, 29 November 2010 (UTC)

I noticed. Let's give the user some time to fill it out. Airplaneman 02:22, 29 November 2010 (UTC)
Look at history of original page. Unless I'm confusing this page with a different one I nominated, the user changed from democrat to republican and the religion of the person. That seems like a bad sign. JDDJS (talk) 02:24, 29 November 2010 (UTC)
Yes, I did some research on it and it looks legitimate. I don't see a change in religion as long as the Cross Church in Springdale is Roman Catholic. It was changed from Democrat ro Republican, but that may just be from copying and pasting the infobox. I'm willing to WP:AGF on this one. I left a note on the talk page.
