Texas wine

I appreciate your edits, or should I say deletions, on the Texas Wine article. I see you created the article over 5 years ago and thank you for that. Unfortunately a lot has changed in the Texas wine industry since then. The two official sites you left as external links are organizations for which wineries/vineyards must belong. If they do not belong to them, they will not be listed in those websites. I read the blog guidelines for which you referred to in your deletions but these days blogs sometimes have more and better information than any official websites, and that is true in this case. The top two blog sites regarding Texas wine along with the factual information for which the guidelines you referred to, are VintageTexas.com and TXWineLover.com. I agree that some blogs can be a good source of information and if that is the case with these blog links then they should be added to the article as reference citation to actual content, not as part of a mass of links at the bottom of the page. I fully agree with Agne here. Blogs on subject X are not generally suitable as ELs in the article X. For wine region/country articles, EL would often be restricted to more-or-less official organizations in those areas, and possibly map resources. Tomas e (talk) 01:48, 6 January 2013 (UTC)

Article style point

Agne27, I noticed that in your most recent edits to The Racketeer (novel) article, you've put quotes in italics. This is not proper Wikipedia style: the double quotes indicate that the material is quoted, but the quoted material should remain in roman type unless italics were used in the original for emphasis, and then only those words that were italicized. Wine

Hi there! I had actually expected a call from you much sooner being our resident wine guru, I guess I should have asked for your assistance! Oh I've always been interested in things like vineyards and wines, your work always captured my attention I think you know this, but it's not a subject I am that familiar with writing much about on wikipedia, certainly and like many topics, music etc I really don't write near enough on them. Dunno, I was creating some articles on some lakes and reserves in northern California Rector Reservoir etc and I was looking on google maps and spotted the wineries, Silver Oak was one of the nearest to the reservoir I created. I also had a look around and started a few more like Palmaz Vineyards. The photographs I googled of the vineyards and that were amazing. I guess I wanted to prove to myself we could have quality articles on them all and was amazed by what I found in google books and highbeam and wondered why they were missing. It has sort of been an ongoing thing for me and trying to fill in red links and produce something worthwhile and I tried to produce decent articles on the blue links I started. I contacted them requesting images, they were a bit dubious (understandably over the CC thing), but have agreed to release images which is still pending in the commons as I think they're happy with the work I've been doing and can see that the images improve the quality of the articles. I get a very good response generally from requests and recently got people to change the licenses for the Clive Mantle images. As for flowery language, I tried to gather what I could but a lot of the quotes and things tend to be written that way. Even newspaper articles and the wine magazines seemed to gush about them, I thought the articles were accurate, but if you think it affects neutrality it is your right of course to tone them down, but I'm not really familiar with your wine guidelines. Anyway, if there is further work you want done on starting some wineries or whatever, let me know! Heh, my wiki activities been kind of spotty these past two years with off wiki wife. I've just recently this past month or so really got back to article writing. Your articles do look beautiful and, yeah, it is tough to find wine magazine articles and other sources that don't gush or use flowery prose. It is sort of the nature of wine that it tends to make people want to wax poetically :P Again, I can't say how much I appreciate your work and was thrilled to see you working on wine articles. Thanks for the positive words on the articles. OK, don't be too harsh on the articles though! Yeah with some nice images and some interesting history it really is a beautiful subject and I can see why you've dedicated so much time to it, although you being a winemaker as a career explains a lot. Out of curiosity, which valley/AVA are you based in? I'd be happy for you to draw up a list of really notable missing articles whether they are wineries, vineyards or biographies that are missing and try to help out some more, I've probably been putting too many eggs in the Silver Oak basket but I found Ray Duncan and Justin Meyer to be notable figures and one thing led to another in the blue link building! I just found a vast hole in coverage, and found numerous books which could be used to create a staggering number of articles, you and precious few others have done the sum of work to date but we could use so many more editors to build related articles.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 22:12, 2 April 2013 (UTC)

I live in Washington State and work with grapes from the Horse Heaven Hills AVA, Red Mountain AVA, Walla Walla AVA, etc. There is quite a bit more work that needs to be done. Cayuga White

Agne, Should the "white" in Cayuga White be capitalized or not? If not, I will make it lowercase in the winery articles that I have written. DavidinNJ (talk) 21:34, 22 April 2013 (UTC)

As far I can tell the "white" in Cayuga White is part of the cultivar name itself rather than just a color descriptor (i.e. the grape is never known as just Cayuga or there isn't a Cayuga Black, etc). So I would probably leave it as is. Agne^Cheese/^Wine 21:41, 22 April 2013 (UTC)

Oh I do enjoy Port and it would be wonderful to see articles created for Sandeman (wine) (my guess for the best dab since it looks like their name is officially just Sandeman and they do make some wines other than Port) and Ferreira Cellars. I'm currently working on a projects involving Grape varieties and French wine articles but if you start either of these articles I will try my best to find some time to contribute. Well as I said, it is a very thankless job but the work that you, BlueMoonset and others do is hugely important in keeping DYK running smoothly. There will always be the occasional hiccup that can blow up into Wiki-drama but what you guys do is appreciated even if it is not vocalized as often as it should be.
