Great Wheel[edit]

I see you've got plans for a Great Wheel article. Interested in collaborating with someone who has almost every planescape sourcebook ever published? --||bass 03:59, 30 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure; I added that to my to-do list a looong time ago. Plus, you've got at least three different, conflicting but somewhat-similar versions of the cosmology (Gygax's/1e, Planescape, and 3e/MOTP/PlHB).
I'm not sure how an article like that would necessarily be structured, or that it would be encyclopedic. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 04:14, 30 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
It would be good if for no other reason than to have a place to merge all the current D&D cosmology articles (currently numbering close to 20). --||bass 05:28, 30 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Aieeee. Well, any ideas for a structure, then? - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 05:29, 30 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I knew you'd appreciate the benefits of a good article merge. We can start by laying out an overall structure of the great wheel cosmology and an explination of the 3 variant forms. Then we can proceed by giving brief descriptions of the various prime worlds. Next we can move on to give explinations for the various inner planes and merge the existing articles about the inner planes. Then do the same with the outer planes + sigil, merging the various articles relating to the outer planes (there are at least 10 articles to merge that i know of). Finally, we can end with a list of the various books published by TSR and Wizards that document the D&D Great Wheel cosmology. --||bass 05:42, 30 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds like you're a lot more on the ball with this than I am. @.@ So we're explaining the shared features, then describing the differences among the different settings, then launching into a list of each major plane/demiplane? - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 05:49, 30 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
That's basically the idea. If you want to see an example of the mergers I'm talking about, just look at the fact that Pandemonium has its own individual article as well as 10 other outer planes. --||bass 05:56, 30 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I understand exactly what you're planning to do. Take a look at User:A Man In Black/Cruft; I spend a lot of time merging articles that are cruft on their own into lists or other whole articles, to lend enough context to actually understand what's being described.
So, do you want to make the skeleton for the merges, or shall I? - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 06:42, 30 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Up to you. I won't have time to put the skeleton page together until Friday. If you get it done before then, we can get to work on the merger. --||bass 17:49, 30 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

CruftWatch![edit]

Amazon Trio potentially should be merged to Sailor Moon, as it claims that the three characters are a subset of another group. I lack the knowledge to make an informed judgment, though (for which I offer silent thanks, although as a railway modeller I arguably have no excuse for same) - Just zis  Guy, you know? [T]/[C] (W) AfD? 13:30, 12 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

(Un)fortunately, my Sailor-Moon-fu is also weak, and I can't find a Wikiproject to refer this to. Looks like there's a lot of more-or-less unmaintained SM cruft on Wikipedia.
Hahaha, it looks like a friend of mine from off of WP was the one who merged this article, though. - A Man In Black (conspire | past ops) 01:35, 13 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

A couple of possible merge candidates:

Twilight Princess is a large-budget game coming out at the beginning of next year. No merge target and clear expansion potential = no merge.

As for the Monsters list, I don't know where I'd merge it and it's a nice list on its own, but I'll keep an eye on it as a merge target if anyone makes a stub on a Lyoko monster. - A Man In Black (conspire | past ops) 06:33, 14 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Isn't Mario & Luigi the Super Mario Brothers? - Just zis  Guy, you know? [T]/[C] (W) AfD? 13:21, 14 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Well, yeah, but it's also the name of two games starring Mario and Luigi. - A Man In Black (conspire | past ops) 13:24, 14 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
See? I told you my ignorance of computer games was encyclopaedic :-) Seriously, I am well-known around my circle of friends for not playing games despite having an improbable number of computers in my house. Hey, don't worry about it too badly; one of those two games hasn't been released yet. I'd merge those two, but there's no point; they'd end up split again in a few months, when the second game is released in the US. - A Man In Black (conspire | past ops) 14:05, 14 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Does FreeWorlds qualify? It looks like gamecruft to me, but I'd burn all mods that sell less than a million. - Just zis  Guy, you know? [T]/[C] (W) AfD? 22:16, 23 November 2005 (UTC) Oh no! Site resources[edit]

I don't know where to put this or who to ask, so I put this here. (I think you can answer me anyway) In your policy, there was something that says somewhat like "Personal sites have no one to check it" which was the reason why wikipedia does not trust personal sites. But really, most personal sites, in general do have some sort of contact, e.g. guestbook, shoutbox, valid E-mail addresses, and if people find errors, they can just contact the webmaster via methods listed above. On the other hand, some commercial sites or companies' websites do NOT have a valid contact, or mail box is always full. It doesn't mean that they have someone to check their work really. Some big sites do make mistakes and because of invalid contact, does not receive any complaints or suggestions. Moreover, personal sites may contain extra, specialised information, that group sites/ commercial sites do not bother to have. Rejecting links from personal sites is a great lose of information resources. Afterall, the Wikipedia policy does NOT reject totally about personal sites, it says "approach with caution". And the main reason is to prevent false/ made-up information. So in my opinion, as soon as the information on the site, no matter personal or group or commercial site, is correct and readable and does not contain made-up contents, the link should be used. On the other hand, if the information is incorrect made-up, it would be pointless to have its link regardless what sort of link it is.

If you are not the correct person to deal with this, please transfer this to the person appropriate, and please give me the username of that person/ group of people. Thank you. jynx 13:40, 1 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I don't feel I could maintain civility in that Arbcom case, as I think it's frivolous nonsense. Luckily, Sjkallsomething (can't remember the name, and I don't have the page open) is doing an able job of doing what I'd want to do anyway.

Yo, MIB:

Haven't seen you in a while. Got to wondering where you'd been, recently. Hope all is well in your world.

A couple months ago, you chimed in on my suggestion at Talk:Deadlands to trim away a great deal of game-mechanic cruft from the article. And I did, and the article was in good shape for a while.

Now there are those who are interested in restoring the cruft. I'm wondering if you have the time to drop by Talk:Deadlands and maybe chime in with an opinion or two.

All the best.

Note on Jewish lists bans[edit]

Hi. Somehow I missed you when I was letting everyone concerned know what was going on. Sorry about this. I noticed your message on User:RachelBrown's talk page, and hence, whilst I don't know your level of involvement, it looks like you got mixed up in this whole mess as well. I hope that you managed to get yourself unmixed up! What I saw of it was extraordinarily ugly.

As you may or may not know, 2 days ago 4 users, User:Poetlister, User:Newport, User:Londoneye and User:Taxwoman, the first 3 of whom were in some way involved in the whole "List of Jews" disputes and surrounding RfMs, RfCs and RfArs, were all indefinitely banned as "suspected sockpuppets of User:RachelBrown" by User:Mindspillage in a unilateral decision without evidence. I made a page to document the case here: User:Zordrac/Poetlister, which you will probably find is the best source for finding out what happened, since the banning admin has not provided any explanation for what happened.

This ban was lifted yesterday by User:Dan100 per "lack of evidence" although none of the 5 affected users has made a single edit afterwards. Also note how this affects Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Antidote especially, but also a lot of other related cases. You can read up about just how awful the whole situation is if you like. And if you like, you can send an e-mail to Dan100 as you might have information to contribute towards an investigation. Thought I should let you know. New Harvest Moon: Rune Factory[edit]

I assure you, AMIB, this game is legitimate. It is a spinoff of Harvest Moon. There are two spinoffs - Rune Factory, and the one on the PSP. The one on the PSP introduces adventure elements, while Rune Factory is set in the past, and involves RPG and fending off/capturing monsters that are attempting to attack your farm. - A Link to the Past (talk) 02:51, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Uh. Okay. Why are you telling me this? - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 00:59, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, crap, now I remember.
The game is actually titled Rune Factory. The "Harvest Moon: Rune Factory" name comes from everyone mistranslating a Jeux-France article on the subject.

Hey, I'm glad I can help. I've got my (limited) Wiki time mostly sunk into an open-ended cross-fandom cruft cleanup project (User:A Man In Black/Cruft), but the Star Wars articles are dying for some cleanup, and a Wikiproject would be a good place to start, especially now that everyone's time isn't taken up dealing with Copperchair any more. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 21:27, 8 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Reverts on Tesla article[edit]

Please read what is said about the descriptions in the edit summaries and on talk. How is claiming that Tesla was "recognized among the most innovative engineers" any more "gushing" than claiming Euler is one of the greatest mathematican of all time, when both have significant support behind these statements? The wording IMO couldn't be edited to be any more prude than it is. Using "of profound genius" in an article is a common practice and has been used on Gauss, Newton, Einstein and many other articles due to the subject's pioneering of a field. "one of the greatest scientist of technological innovation" is nothing close to say "THE greatest" or even "considered the best", which would be bad POV. Stating "one of the greatest" is among the most commonly used terms for pioneers of a field on biographical articles. I will revert one more time in hopes that this explanation will show you why the information is fair and balanced. Also, deleted references were added in between and blindly reverted, so I will restore those too. If you wish to revert again, do so manually so these won't have to be readded. Hopefully we can find a compromise. Thank you. 72.144.147.32 23:30, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Come up with a citation before you reinsert it into the article. Text like "one of the greatest..." is POV. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 01:44, 15 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
There are literally dozens of books and online biographies that state this; most (though, I admit, not all) which are academic in nature and balanced in notation. I collected a small selection
  • [1] one of the greatest scientists in technological innovation (renowned academic book)
  • [2] one of the greatest electrical engineers (general) (PBS doc)
  • [3] one of the greatest mechanical engineers (specifically America)

Not sure how you want a source for "profound genius" Jatras, Stella L., "The genius of Nikola Tesla" maybe?

There are quotes by many scientists too: [4]

Nearly all the references at the bottom of the page make note of this too. I think it would equally fair to question some of the statements presented on other pages like Gauss's, Faradays, and Newtons, asking for sources. Anyway, tell me what else I can provide. I can't revert again until after the day ends right? 3RR? Thanks. 72.144.147.32 02:51, 15 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I removed four exemplaries ("one of the greatest," "profound genius," etc.) from the first paragraph of the intro; this is ridiculous puffery. Pick a single, relevant comment, and cite it inline, and please leave it at that. The facts should speak for themselves in this article, rather than relying too heavily on conclusions drawn from the facts. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 03:24, 15 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Deadlock...[edit]

There is discord at the Template:PokémonGames talk page. WikidSmaht and I are having a debate based on these merits:

  1. Whether Coloseeum and XD should be listed under the RPGs or not
  2. Whether the 1st/2nd/3rd/4th gen should remain or if it should be collapsed into one single category
  3. Whether there should be so many categories (i.e virtual pets, puzzle, TCG, Pinball, racing), and how they should be pruned if they are to be pruned

Thanks for any help you can provide. - Hbdragon88 06:45, 15 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Mewtwo Anime article up[edit]

Okay, so I implemented the Mewtwo (Anime) page I was talking about as a new page, link accessible from the main Mewtwo page. So basically, feel free to check out what's on there right now and do the thing you do (i.e. edit/condense for the better). Why, to tell you the truth, I would consider that a bit of an honor. By the way, is it legal to edit/replace one's comments on talk pages like this? Erik the Appreciator 22:37, 20 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

So now I have implemented all that I was saying I would edit onto the Mewtwo articles, and did a large, initial condensing job of both pages... I think both pages are going to be pretty static now, since apparently there isn't that much excess information to edit out that I can tell of. Tell me what you think about these! And thanks. It's not relevant to ESB in any way, and doesn't fit into the sentence. Sorry for reverting with rollback; I spent a couple of minutes staring at the edit page sort of blearily, and said fuck it and used rollback.

Hello. do you remember me? If not take a look at my user page. I have taken your advice and now have my own account (though I would still do most of my work as an unregisted user). (Iuio 06:37, 18 March 2006 (UTC))[reply]

SFEX Link[edit]

How come you keep getting rid of that Street Fighter EX link? It has information that KLOV and Moby dosent mention. (BackLash 14:57, 22 March 2006 (UTC))[reply]

Not sure what you're talking about, here. I generally revert external links added by redlink-names or IPs, though. What site is it, so I can take another look? - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 04:48, 23 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
This wasn't my link, though I thought it was intresting. Here's the link, thanks for taking another look. [6] (BackLash 20:12, 23 March 2006 (UTC))[reply]

A little bit surprised[edit]

Hi Man in black. I was a little bit surprised to see a speedy-delete tag on the template "User All Drugs". I put a hangon tag on it and wrote this on the talk page:

I'm not really current on this, but the tag says "It is a template that attacks or disparages an individual or group" and the template says "This user supports the legalization of all drugs for adults". I'm not seeing the connection there. I thought we were past this. I'm not saying or not saying that the template is good or bad, or that all templates like this should or should not be deleted, but can the person either please 1) get a policy in place under which this template can be deleted, or 2) put it up for AfD, or 3) if unable to win the day by either of those methods accept defeat gracefully and go on to something else?

I also then saw that the page history indicated that the template had been put up for deletion a couple of times fairly recently. I don't see that another round of deletion and review is going to helpful to the project. I realize that this may be a personal issue for you, as many of us have had loved ones damaged by drug addiction. But, dealing with emotionally difficult subjects in the course of editing is part of what we have to do.

Could I persuade you to reconsider that tag? Herostratus 09:33, 23 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I tagged it because it's staking a claim in an idiotic flamewar that has nothing to do with building an encyclopedia. If that isn't divisive, I'm not sure what is.
Policy isn't up for a vote. If T1 isn't policy, it needs to not be on the CSD policy page. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 05:16, 24 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A bit of a case of the cruft, dear. Could you place in a word or two..? -ZeroTalk 20:14, 23 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Writing about fiction[edit]

Hi, MIB. I've recently written an essay (similar to User:Uncle G/Describe this universe) about writing articles on fictional characters, species, and the like: User:BrianSmithson/Writing about fiction. I'd appreciate any feedback (heck, edit the essay yourself if you feel led to do so), as I hope to make this piece into a good resource for users who want to avoid writing crufty articles. Thanks, — BrianSmithson 18:21, 27 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Golden Sun Focus[edit]

Well, sorry to bother you again, but I thought I should notify you of the edits I’ve been making to the Golden Sun articles. They’re big story writeups like before, so if you end up with the time, you might want to read and comment on the new versions, because I’ll probably need the feedback to refine/condense them to their eventual best. Thanks. Erik the Appreciator 21:13, 27 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Islamophobia[edit]

please vote again here

Proposed deletion removed, as the article has been around for several months, and I'm pretty sure that pokemon deletions have not been uncontroversial historically. Gazpacho 11:03, 29 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject: Gamecruft[edit]

I've decided to create a WikiProject devoted to discussing what articles qualify as gamecruft, and what do not. Contact me if you are interested, or have questions. - A Link to the Past (talk) 07:58, 1 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cruft[edit]

* Mega Man character cleanup ** Dr. Wily (ideally getting it up to FAC quality) - User:A Man In Black/Dr. Wily draft *** Merge Enker and the other Rockman Killer bots into it ** Bass (character) ** Mega Man X (character) ** Merge Dr. Cossack into Mega Man IV * Finish rewriting xD-Picture Card (temp at User:A Man In Black/xDtemp) * (Someday) excise Criticism sections from articles and redistribute the criticism to the relevant parts of the article * Merge and/or replace with redirects any gamecruft character or object article

Knowing me, I'll never get it all done.

I finally got the time to scrupple with these nasty articles, and I've went and cleaned up all of them. As for merging, those articles are now too large to be realistically inserted into Wily's, but I've removed all the cruft and laudible information. As for redirects and the like, I've taken your lead and redirected such minor characters like Guts Man to the Robot Master article. Finally, I've also been making lists, such as this and this. Its taken awhile, and I hope you're pleased. If you've any comments, I would appreciate them on my talkpage. -ZeroTalk 18:14, 1 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
