August 2021[edit]

Hello, I'm Isabelle Belato. I noticed that you made a change to an article, Democracy in China, but you didn't provide a source. I’ve removed it for now, but if you’d like to include a citation to a reliable source and re-add it, please do so! If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. Isabelle 🔔 22:46, 8 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Request reason:

The administrator who blocked me was not uninvolved, and therefore based on WP:ACDS was not legitimately able to intervene administratively. For this reason alone, I believe that my ban should be overturned.

However, it is also the case that the alleged reason for my ban, "personal attacks and harassment", is simply not an appropriate accusation. I neither attacked the administrator who banned me, nor harassed him. I simply disagreed with him. I would like an uninvolved administrator to weigh in on this.

If uninvolved administrators agree that my banning was deserved, and if I am misunderstanding the "uninvolved" requirement for administrators, then I apologize for wasting peoples' time. However, I'm reasonably confident that I'm correctly interpreting the rules here. 73.33.168.206 (talk) 21:20, 5 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

The blocking admin commented that they had fixed a citation, cautioned you to stay on topic, and tried to correct a point of information. I don't think that's too involved. You said "I suspect that whoever wrote that section of the Wiki article had Ukrainian fascist sympathies", I consider that a personal attack. I am declining your request. 331dot (talk) 21:45, 5 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

@331dot: Respectfully, the edit in question was the phrase "there was never any fascism in Ukraine". That is a deeply inappropriate sentence to be inexplicably included in a history article. It is literally fascist propaganda. It is the very definition of fascist propaganda. Other people within that talk page were being accused of being ideologically committed communists or of writing communist propaganda, and they received no discipline, because they had reasonable motivations for raising those concerns. I sincerely don't understand why what I did is different, and I would appreciate clarification.

In addition, I went as far back as I cared to in the edit history for that page and could not find when that sentence was added. It was probably over a decade ago. Is it really a personal attack to make a reasonable criticism of literal fascist apologia, that was added over a decade ago by an unknown editor? 73.33.168.206 (talk) 22:09, 5 September 2021 (UTC) 73.33.168.206 (talk) 21:56, 5 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Please place posts at the bottom of the page, not the top, for proper flow. I don't agree with your interpretation, but that's just my opinion. You are free to make another unblock request for someone else to review. 331dot (talk) 22:13, 5 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the clarification. Sry for improper formatting

____________

/self I should probably drop this, I'm just gonna get my ban extended by raising a fuss, and it's not actually a big deal. But the injustice of it is going to drive me insane. Someone can write fascist apologia and have it stay up for decades, but when a Jew challenges it, I get banned? If there was never any fascism in Ukraine, I'd love to know who killed members of my family during the pograms of the 1920s. I'm absolutely apoplectic that *that's* what I did wrong. It was much easier to believe it was just someone who was angry at me for daring to disagree with him than *this*.

Take a break, cool off, then decide what to do about it. You're not allowed to continue this until after dinner. You're too upset

I guess this will be what I'm focused on here. Clearly this is a problem in wikipedia, since that nonsense has been up for as long as it has. And it's still up, despite trying multiple times to bring it to peoples' attention, and despite multiple administrators engaging with me about the issue.

I'll make this a positive experience by committing myself to rooting out anti-semitic and fascistic bs and misinformation, especially in history articles. I absolutely cannot tolerate this. I just need to learn to be less honest about it and to not call it what it is, since I suppose there's no way to call something anti-Semitic or fascistic without implicitly attacking the person who wrote it. That's a challenge I'll have to think more about.

Request reason:

I've been told that the reason I was banned was that I accused an editor of having fascist sympathies just because they included false Holocaust denial claims in an article that wasn't even related to the Holocaust. I'm sorry for this. I understand now that the unknown editor may have had other motivations for this inclusion, and regardless it was not productive to make such a politically charged allegation against another editor. I was emotional about the issue because I am Jewish and members of my family were killed by Ukrainian fascists, who this editor claims never existed, during the pograms of the 1920s that this editor claims never happened. If an administrator will allow it, I'd like to be unbanned so I can remove the Holocaust denial passage from that article. I will not make accusations regarding other editors again. 73.33.168.206 (talk) 00:44, 6 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Accept reason:

The reason for the block appears to have been addressed. – bradv🍁 03:01, 6 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, just dropping by to put my opinion here. I suppose what you meant by your comment was that there was clear bias towards Ukrainian fascism in the mentioned articles. It was probably too harsh of an admin decision to actually block you for a "personal attack" because of that and I am in favour of your block being reconsidered. However, to avoid this sort of drama in the future you might want to instead say something along the lines of "Clearly edit X and edit Y includes unnecessary bias towards Ukrainian fascist views". This would eliminate all (possibly personal) references to the editors themselves. You might also want to go for a softer tone. Just saying. Lankyliver🧠 (talk / contribs) 01:25, 6 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I appreciate your support and feedback. And you're absolutely right, I could be less abrasive about the whole thing. I wouldn't be in this situation if I'd found a gentler way of putting it, and I definitely will try to do that in the future. And I'm aware that even that unban request was a bit ironic in tone.
But in my defense, the Wiki page on Holocaust denial says "In some former Eastern Bloc countries, Holocaust deniers do not deny the mass murder of Jews, but deny the participation of their own nationals in the Holocaust". In the article in question, the claim being made is that there were never any Ukrainian fascists and therefore, by extension, that Ukrainian nationals played no role in the Holocaust. Therefore, the claim being made fits the definition of Holocaust denial, as we define it here. I don't think that what I said was particularly unreasonable in that context. There's not really an accurate way of saying that something is Holocaust denial that doesn't constitute a personal attack, lol.

Information icon Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, such as at Talk:Denial_of_the_Holodomor, (but never when editing articles), please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:

  1. Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment, or
  2. With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button located above the edit window.

This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.

Thank you. Ttwaring (talk) 20:21, 7 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! Sorry about that, still learning how all this works. Im not much of a coder. All I'd been able to figure out was that the SineBot added a signature for me sometimes but not others, and I've been very confused as to what determines that. There's no signature button on mobile, right? That's how I normally access wiki. I'll just stick to the tilde method then 73.33.168.206 (talk) 11:06, 22 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked[edit]

As you've been evading your block, I have reblocked this IP address for three years. --Yamla (talk) 11:42, 22 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

User:Yamla as I've attempted to clarify to you multiple times, I was not aware that one of the IP addresses that I have access to had been blocked, because I don't actually come on here that often. The edits I made prior to my unblock request were made out of ignorance. I again apologize for the one edit I made afterwards, which was an attempt to apologize for the post that I thought had been the one that offended someone. I had not understood that would be considered ban evasion. I'd appreciate it if you could at least talk to me

Once your block expires, you are free to edit. Please sign in with your account to avoid this sort of confusion in the future. I applied the block to your account matching the longest that any of your IP addresses were blocked, as (you are well aware) blocks apply to the person, as per WP:BLOCK. This is my final response to you. --Yamla (talk) 14:22, 23 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
