History[edit]

Founded in 2020, the VES Business School (VBS) had its seeds sown 58 years ago, when the Vivekanand Education Society (VES) was founded in 1962 to infuse academic excellence. VBS is poised to become the destination for attaining knowledge and education necessary to succeed and excel in the contemporary world of business. The VES Trust was the dream of late Shri Hashu Advaniji, a philanthropist, who set out to serve society and the world of business and economy. He had realised the need for imparting quality education to people across classes and understood how illiteracy had a debilitating impact on the growth and development of the then young nation. This led to the citizens being denied the right of a dignified existence.

Even after more than 70 years of Independence, India continues to face several challenges. Shri Advaniji had realised illiteracy was one of the chief problems. He felt that a high rate of literacy is essential for India to make a mark, on a par with the other developed nations. He was inspired by the ideology of Swami Vivekanand, proven by his axiom: “A nation is advanced in proportion to education and intelligence that spread among the masses.” Moved by this ideology of Swami Vivekanand, Shri. Advaniji embraced education as the tool for Nation-building and Vivekanand Education Society (VES) was born.

From a humble beginning, when VES had 256 students, it has grown tremendously over the years. Today, it has come to be seen as a premier education hub in Mumbai and has over 25,000 students across its 23 institutions. Its portfolio of institutions include playschools, pre-primary, higher secondary schools, degree and post-graduate institutions. It also has institutions delivering professional courses, including engineering, architecture, polytechnic, pharmacy, law college, management, PhD. The trust had set up “Vivekanand Education Society’s Institute of Management Studies and Research” in 1994. Its courses such as the Post-Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) and Masters of Management Studies (MMS) are approved by AICTE and are NBA accredited since 2016. The PGDM course enjoys equivalence to an MBA, according to the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

In an era when the education sector has become a money-spinner, VBS will strictly adhere to the principles spelt out by Shri. Advaniji, who believed, that education is the ultimate route to building a strong and prosperous nation. It observes the principle of "no capitation fees, no donations, and no management quota" and it has realised the same across all levels and in all institutions.

New-age courses like Analytics takes centre stage at VBS as its courses are in tune with the needs and demands of the business world. Analytics is today integral to all functional domains including Banking & Finance, Marketing, Operations, Human Resource Management, International Business, Business Analytics and Entrepreneurship Management.

VBS with its intend to be a sought after destination for future leaders, keeps on striving in its different endeavour. In the years ahead VBS will always be in the hallowed lists of various awards and recognitions. The institute in its journey to attain global standards has become a member of AACSB. To provide global exposure to its students and faculty VBS has international tie-up providing global flavour to its curriculum. Students enjoy vibrant campus life, with ample extracurricular activities, and opportunity for industry interaction.
