From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Picacho is a spanish word meaning "Peak". Due to the historic influence of spanish language in the southwest place names, there is more than one summit in New Mexico, United States named Picacho, Picacho Mountain, Picacho Peak, El Picacho, Cerro Picacho and variations. Some peaks have been entered in United States Geological Survey - Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) with Picacho as the main name component and others as a variant name, such as Cookes Peak also known as Picacho de Mimbres.

"Picacho Peak" is redundant, as the spanish "Picacho" means "Peak". This is similar to Table Mesa, Cerrillos Hills, and Rio Grande river.
