A crappy stub article on realplane caught my eye as it was destined to get deleted via mob rule. So I made a basic attempt at making it better, as well as some misguided attempts at fighting its likely destruction.

Update 1: made some less misguided (perhaps) attempts at a slightly more fair trial for the stub.

Realplane is a modification for the computer game Battlefield 1942 (2002). It a partial conversion focused on adding a few new planes, realism, and improving bot performance. It was developed by a person who goes by the handle psychoslaphead. The latest version released of 2005, was the v 1.65 in 2004. It had started with beta versions in 2003. The mod is among the smaller ones, but is also of of the older ones and is one of the few to add a combination of new aircraft and realism, with a focus on the battlefield single player community. The mod was not limited to aircraft like Battlefield Dogfight, but also modified other aspects as well including mostmaps. The mod while notable in its hey day, has like even many notable Battlefield 1942 mods began a slide into obscurity as players migrate to newer games, especially Battlefield Vietnam and Battlefield 2 and the community shrinks.

The work on coding AI for the aircraft has earned acclaim in the general BF community, Gurki of Battlegroup 42, noted in a interview in 2003 that psychoslaphead would be improving their AI.

excerpt from Planet Battlefield interview:

Gen. Disarray: Thank you Gurki :). Speaking of bots, any AI tweaks in the next release?
[BG42]Gurki: Yes we have, Psychoslaphead tweaked his famous RealPlane AI coding to make air battles in single player much more exiting.
P-38J - RealPlane added a P-38 with historically correct armament and improved AI skills

RealPlane includes new, all-new unique aircraft modeled, coded and skinned for the mod, as well re-coding of existing ones. Some examples inlcude the P-38, Me 262, and Macchi C.205. An example of a change made, was for a version of the ME 109 to have proper weapons fitted: 2 Rheinmetall-Borsig MG17 in the engine cowling and 2 in the wings, and one 20mm MG FF cannon (200 rounds) added, firing through the prop spinner. This is quite different from the regular 1942, where it has just 2 generic MG's in the wings.
