Green Record Alberta Canada July 2010

Well being somewhat disabled since an early age due to a kind of stroke and near death experience, it's been somewhat of a challenge to do as much for nature and the environment as I would have liked had I been more able but here is my green record since about the 1960s to now in 2010

  • I built a solar log cabin in the foothills and a couple of solar greenhouses.
  • I studied a bit of organic gardening.
  • I set up a 50 watt solar photovoltaic system and battery storage.
  • I went without a car for 5 years ie Carbon strike
  • I was the official agent for the Green Party in Red Deer in the 2004 Federal Election
  • I helped reseed some natural grasses and plants in the area.
  • I grew some of my own food and supported the local farmer markets and Hutterites
  • I lived out at the lake when I could ( had a sail boat)
  • I hugged a few trees
  • I keep some house plants and had and cared for some pets
  • I feed the wild birds in the winter sometimes
  • I've volunteered for various nature centers
  • I've written letters and articles to the local paper and members of Government
  • I've bought many green topic books and videos
  • I attended and participated in city council environmental matters
  • I switched to low power and LED lights
  • I had a mountain bike and helmet which I used a fair bit
  • I used public transit and walked a lot
  • I reuse and recycle grocery bags
  • I don't eat to much meat
  • I try not to use airlines
  • I do some recycling and composting
  • I try not to litter
  • I drive very economically and defensively and green
  • I try to buy and use more natural goods and products and services
  • I try to use natural cleaners like vinegar and steam
  • I like to participate in Earth Hour and do my own green outs regularly

I suppose there's been other things I've done but can't recall much more at the moment so I guess despite my disability I've managed to do my fair part for the Earth.

Thanks for the opportunity to share
