VinFast is a Vietnamese car manufacturer established in 2017.  A subsidiary of Vingroup Real Estate and Construction Corp., it is widely regarded as Vietnam’s first “true” car manufacturer. VinFast mainly focuses on manufacturing electric cars.

At the 2018 Paris Motor Show, VinFast revealed its first two vehicles, a sedan named the LUX A2.0 and an SUV model, named the LUX SA 2.0. The vehicles are respectively redesigned versions of BMW’s 5 Series sedan and X5 SUV platforms, but have undergone revisions from major Italian design companies such as Italdesign, Pininfarina and Zagato. The powertrains were reused from the original models; however, the cars also come with several upgrades from Magna Steyr.

VinFast has plans for releasing other vehicle models, which include a city car, a battery car and an electric bus. Details on these vehicles are still not released;  however, VinFast plans to put the city car into production in early 2019. Aside from manufacturing automotive vehicles, VinFast also produces electric scooters.

Production and sales[edit]

VinFast aims to build its first car manufacturing plant in Haiphong, capable of producing 250,000 cars per year, within 5 years of the initial release of their first two car models. Currently, Vinfast produces 250,000 electric scooters per year.
