Stephen David Beck (born 1959 in San Diego, California) is an American composer of classical and electroacoustic music. He received his musical education at the University of California, Los Angeles, studying composition with Henri Lazarof, Elaine Barkin, Alden Ashforth, and Roger Bourland. While a graduate student, he held a Fulbright Fellowship to study computer music at IRCAM, the Paris computer music research center.

Since 1988, he has been on the faculty of Louisiana State University School of Music, and now serves as its Director. In 2003, he helped establish the Laboratory for Creative Arts & Technologies at LSU's Center for Computation & Technology, a research group focused on the intersections of creativity, technology and human expression.

At CCT, he led the development of Nemeaux, a supercomputer for the arts. His research is in immersive audio, interactive computer music, sound diffusion, and distributed audio computation. His most recent project is the Laptop Orchestra of Louisiana.

In 2008, he was named Interim Director at the CCT, serving in that capacity until December 2010.
