Polyporus varius is a species of fungi in the genus Polyporus. It is found mostly on twigs and slender branches.
Taxonomy[edit]
The generic name Polyporus means "many pores", while the specific epithet means "different" or "changing".
Description[edit]
Fruiting bodies are erect, solitary or a few together, centrally or laterally stalked, sometimes with two or more arising from a common base. Cap rounf, fan- or kidney-shaped, comvex to funnel-shaped, 1-10 cm diameter, 0.3-1 cm thick, margin sometimes lobed, thin, involute when dry, upper surface smooth, with fine radial lines, pale yellowish brown, then more reddish brown or ochraceous, lower surface white, cream- or straw- colored, pores 4-6 per mm, angular, tubes decurrent. Stalk 1-6 x 0.3-1 cm, upper part ochraceous, lower part black. Spores cylindrical, 8-11 x 2.5-3.5 µm. On attached and fallen branches of deciduous trees.[1]
