Milecastle 18 (Milecastle Name) was a milecastle of the Roman Hadrian's Wall. Its remains exist (describe the state of the remains), and are located (describe the location and update the coordinates). (Any other very general remarks about the milecastle, especially how it relates to others).

Construction[edit]

Milecastle 18 was a long/short-axis milecastle with Type XX gateways. Such milecastles were thought to have been constructed by the legio II Augusta/VI Victrix/XX Valeria Victrix who were based in Isca Augusta/Eboracum/Deva Victrix (Caerleon/York/Chester).[1] Ref to other similar MCs where appropriate.

The milecastle had internal/external dimensions of . . . . (other dimension details - gateways, wall thicknesses, rounded corners, etc.) Construction materials and methods. Other interesting construction facts. Internal structure details.

Associated Turrets[edit]

Each milecastle on Hadrian's Wall had two associated turret structures. These turrets were positioned approximately one-third and two-thirds of a Roman mile to the west of the Milecastle, and would probably have been manned by part of the milecastle's garrison. The turrets associated with Milecastle 18 are known as Turret 18A and Turret 18B.
