Delbert Belton was an 88-year-old World War II veteran who was allegedly killed at random by two black juveniles in Spokane, Washington on August 22, 2013. According to sources, "... two young men, between 16 and 19-years-old, approached Delbert Belton in his car Wednesday night outside the Ice-A-Rena as he was waiting for a friend."[1][2][3]

On the night of August 22, 2013, Delbert Belton was inside his car outside the Eagles Ice-A-Rena. Two teenage males allegedly approached Belton and then attacked him with multiple flashlights. Belton died from his injuries that night.[4][5][6][7][8][9]
Arrests and charges[edit]
A 16-year-old male turned himself to authorities on August 22, 2013. He was was arrested and booked on charges of first-degree murder and first-degree robbery. He was held on $2 million bail, and he will be charged as an adult. A second teenager wanted in connection with the beating was sought by police for four days, while his name and picture was published all over nation media. He was arrested on August 26, 2013, at an apartment in Spokane. Police also arrested three other people who were with the hiding suspect, on charges of rendering criminal assistance.[4][10]
Suspected motive[edit]
Police in Spokane have stated that the killing of Belton was a botched robbery. According to Spokane police Chief Frank Straub Jr., the crime appeared to be racially motivated despite speculation that it was not.[10][4]
