(note, the examples have different heights than would be used in an actual fix that applied the styles directly to the images, to compensate for a rule that has img with a vertical-align of 'middle' that I cannot affect in wikicode. These therefore may not line up with the text in all fonts, but they should line up with each other.)

These will ONLY show up properly if the image alignment rule is disabled (e.g. with firebug), but the vertical-align on the spans is the one that should be applied via inline style to the img tags.
