RE: GDP[edit]

Hi there ... no problem! It was just a matter of looking at the coding for the previous column and copying it over. However, I also suffer from such strabismus too and HTML coding can often be anything but simple. Anyhow, let me know if you've any questions. Fixed[edit]

I fixed it. Apparently the new (|) has to go on its own line in order for it to work correctly. That's probably not a html thing as far as a MediaWiki thing. You could report it on bugzilla.--naryathegreat | (talk) 21:29, 25 February 2006 (UTC)

GDP[edit]

How long did it take you to create that table?--naryathegreat | (talk) 05:59, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

GDP wrong[edit]

You currently are going over various countries updating the Information from the CIA factbook. Good work, but you overlooked one little thing: The CIA lists "The world" and "European Union" as two entries at the top of the list therefore the true ranking of everything below that is wrong by 2.

I fixed Germany but won't have time now to follow all your edits. Agathoclea 08:43, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

Agathoclea is right, by the way. Anyhoo, drop by over at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Countries for a discussion I started that you might find interesting.--naryathegreat | (talk) 16:03, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

GDP, et al.[edit]

Go ahead and mount a vote. I would provide choices for the following lists, listed alphabetically (and I would provide links to their Wp articles and genuine source information, if possible):

  • CIA World Fact Book
  • International Monetary Fund
  • UN: specifically, those found in last 2005 HDI report from 2003
  • World Bank

Let it run a week or two, and request simple affirmative votes only. You might also want to open it up to include any other variants:

  • GDP (nominal)
  • GDP per capita (nominal)
  • GDP (PPP)
  • GDP per capita (PPP)
  • other variants?

Hopefully, this will generate an appreciable consensus while not straightjacketing worthwhile efforts. (It doesn't matter if you can't get around to implementing the results of the vote ... that's what everyone else is for! :))

You might also want to take a glance at the HDI scheme, for which there was significant input, and see if there's any value in adopting notions used therein.

And don't get me wrong: I think efforts to streamline information in Wp are grand. However, peruse the edit history for the GDP PPP article (e.g.) and you might realise how wilful some users can be. Let me know if you've any questions.  :) E Pluribus Anthony | talk | 00:30, 27 February 2006 (UTC)

Hi there! Thanks for your note and for setting this up. I've tweaked the vote page a bit to give it more focus with a clear question; I think it's good! I've set it to last a week but nothing is set in stone. As well, we might want to advertise it on country-specific pages to garner wider input. Thoughts? Edit it if needed since, as with anything in Wp, nothing is set in stone. :) Thanks! E Pluribus Anthony | talk | 02:35, 27 February 2006 (UTC)
Great. I would only place a link to the vote/poll on appropriate talk pages (not in actual articles): e.g., the GDP article talk pages themselves, on the WikiProject Country talk page, the actual talk pages for GDP, etc. I wouldn't really place it on country article talk pages unless you're so inclined! I'll also do so in the next day or two. E Pluribus Anthony | talk | 03:18, 27 February 2006 (UTC)
