A page for taking notes on editing archivist-related pages.

Pages to work on? Fedora repository? Dublincore compatible web-systems?

  • Big issue: Lots of very interesting Dublincore compatible software and web frameworks, many of which incorporate open-source as part of an 'open-access' philosophy. Very interesting, but currently not referenced or found - how to connect these to the theoretical pages? Categories? One of the appropriate general digital archiving theory pages?
  • Research and consolidate/list in an appropriate place different acronyms as they fall under different patterns of digital archiving systems.
  • Create "Comparison of Digital Archiving Frameworks" / whatever acronym is most common.

Below is a work in progress, it's a sort of "relation-mapping" of digital archiving ideas/concepts/organizations/pages/info, whatever. It's a sort of mind-map to keep track of the pages I've taken a glance at.

Metadata Standards

Dublin_Core_Meta_Toolkit
Maintained by DCMI (Note, DCMI is not under OAI, it grew with much help under OCLC and OCLC recently let it go off as its own entity)
  • EAC (called EAC-CPF when used with content standard ICA-ISAAR (CPF))
Maintained by International_Council_on_Archives
Creator, authority data. Often used in pair with EAD but also used to complement other metadata descriptors. DTD & XML schema.
Finding aids.
XML DTD as of 2002's v2, used. See mapping
Society of American Archivists and Library of Congress.
primarily allowed for use of MARC library catalogue data in an XML format.
new library catalog standard
made with collaboration with OCLC, OAI,
Not made to *replace* general archival metadata standards, meant to replace library cataloguing systems, conglomerating many competing MARC standards into a universal usable one to make it easier to bring library systems into XML age. Not in a position to really be a central tool for all archiving.
