Message from WikiProject Punk music

Hello!

You may be interested to know that WikiProject Punk music has recently undergone a major revitalization. Please visit the project page to see our new look and check out some of our helpful new features, such as the Assessment Department and the Collaboration of the week. There are also a number of tasks on our Things to do page that you may be interested in helping with.

We are currently holding a roll call to help gauge how many active project members we have. Please visit the project's talk page and add your signature to the roll sheet to express your continued interest in the project. Also, if you have not already done so, please take a minute to add your name to the Participants page along with a brief summary of your punk-related interests, so that other project members will be better able to collaborate with you. If you do not add your signature to the roll sheet by November 30, 2008 your name will be moved to our list of inactive members. We may also take the liberty of removing the project userbox from your userpage if it appears there, to prevent you from automatically appearing in Category:WikiProject Punk music members. Of course you are free to rejoin the project and re-add the userbox at any time if you would like to become active in the project again.

Thank you and we hope you will continue to support WikiProject Punk music!

Wikipedia:Wikipedia Loves Art

First off, I apologize for the spam. You are receiving this message because you have indicated that you are in Southern California or interested in Southern California topics (either via category or WikiProject).

I would like to invite you to the Los Angeles edition of Wikipedia:Wikipedia Loves Art, a photography scavenger hunt to be held at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) on Saturday, February 28, 2009, from 1:00 to 7:00 PM. All photos are intended for use in Wikipedia articles or on Wikimedia Commons. There will be a prize available for the person who gets the most photos on the list.

If you don't like art, why not come just to meet your fellow Wikipedians. Apparently, we haven't had a meetup in this area since June 2006!

If you are interested in attending, please add your name to Wikipedia:Wikipedia Loves Art#Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Please make a note if you are traveling to the area (train or plane) and need transportation, which can probably be arranged via carpool, but we need time to coordinate. Lodging is as of right now out of scope, but we could discuss that if enough people are interested.

Thank you and I hope to see you there! howcheng {chat} 00:10, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

POV

Regarding this, is there some specific issue you would like to point out? Adding a disputed POV tag without accompanying discussion aimed at resolution doesn't move us forward.  ;-) //Blaxthos ( t / c ) 01:16, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

WikiProject Neutrality

I'm not sure that the project is active anymore. If you have concerns about an article, there are several things you can do. First is to broach your concerns on the article talk page and attempt to discuss your concerns. If that is unsuccessful, you can ask for a request for comments on the dispute, make a posting to biography of living persons noticeboard or perhaps open a dispute mediation if other efforts haven't addressed your concerns. I'm sorry, I don't have any specific persons in mind whom you could approach outside of this. Wildhartlivie (talk) 03:01, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

Question

Are you referring to me as one of the editor's with an agenda on the Criticism of Bill O'reilly talkpage? If you are (and you're probably not) I'd like to know what makes you think that. Ramsquire (throw me a line) 21:37, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

I don't ask questions unless I want to know the answer. ;) It's unclear whether you are directly responding to me, or stating a general opinion...that's what I wanted cleared up. FTR- It's been my experience that if you speak about specific problems, you can get some movement from the editors on the talkpage. I was able to reorder the article to at least have some logical flow. I know its not much, but it was a start. Most of the editors there will listen to any ideas you have for improvement. (I certainly will). Ramsquire (throw me a line) 21:52, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

Announcement

Hello! I'm The Arbiter, one of the coordinators for WikiProject Zoo. I am proud to announce the launch of a new portal: Portal:Zoos and Aquariums! ZooPro, ZooFari, and I worked hard to create a new portal for information on zoos, aquariums, and the associated projects and articles on Wikipedia. If you could head on over, take a look at our work, and maybe learn some more about zoos and Wikiproject Zoo, it would be great! Cheers and Happy Editing!

Turning Ten

On Saturday January 15, 2011, Wikipedia will turn 10 years and people all over the globe will be celebrating Wikipedia on that day. No event is currently planned for Orange County Wikipedians, so I am leaving a message with some of the currently involved editors listed in "Wikipedians in Orange County, California" & "Wikipedians in Southern California" to see if we might want to meet on that day, lunch, dinner, group photo or other ideas welcomed? I will start a "Turning Ten" discussion thread on my Talk page to see if any interest can be planned for and determined. I am located in Old Towne Orange off the circle.Tinkermen (talk) 19:59, 6 January 2011 (UTC)

Feedback

I have replied to your request for feedback at Wikipedia:Requests for feedback/2011 June 11. Crisco 1492 (talk) 02:08, 11 June 2011 (UTC)

I understand how that can happen and how it feels. However, people do get busy and occasionally need a reminder. It is a side effect of having people from so many different places working together; people are always sleeping, having dinner, or whatnot. You may want to read about Wikipedia administrators, especially about administrator failability.

"Administrators are expected to follow Wikipedia policies and to perform their duties to the best of their abilities. Occasional mistakes are entirely compatible with adminship; administrators are not expected to be perfect."

Being busy or late to reply is not a major problem, even for administrators. It takes patience, especially when dealing with stuff on talk pages. (Commons is even worse; one request for deletion can take months) Crisco 1492 (talk) 02:39, 11 June 2011 (UTC)
Yes one must, and it can be annoying. However, if they are busy they may not remember after reading it; hence why a gentle reminder is useful every once in a while. Crisco 1492 (talk) 02:49, 11 June 2011 (UTC)

RE: Status

Actually, I was out to brunch. I'll take a look. Crisco 1492 (talk) 03:52, 11 June 2011 (UTC)

You should add User:Xenocidic/statusChanger2.js to this page or your vector skin file, which will allow you to change your status semi-automatically. You should also create User:Lighthead/status, which will allow the script to work properly. (I'm not an expert, so I'm trying to get you set up pretty much like I am) Crisco 1492 (talk) 03:56, 11 June 2011 (UTC)
You're welcome. Hope it works. Crisco 1492 (talk) 04:01, 11 June 2011 (UTC)

IDM Tags

I did, way back, when it was a mess, have since tried to pull it together, to reflect accepted history of the scene (from a UK perspective), but cites are missing, and the overview is still POV until additional references are found for a few paragraphs that lack any significant support. If I had more time I would deal with it, but until someone pulls out enough sources to substantiate the version of events on the page, i would leave the tags there.--Semitransgenic (talk) 10:03, 11 June 2011 (UTC)

yes, if i see entire paragraphs, sections etc. that lack citations, i place a tag up top, rather than riddling it with fact tags. Like I said, I tried to give an objective assessment of the scene's, origins, but have not had time to root out the cites needed to support this view, so I tagged it. --Semitransgenic (talk) 10:33, 14 June 2011 (UTC)

well I'm glad you see it that way, certain editors consider the top tags "ugly," which I've never understood, because the idea here, is to present information that is as close to factual as we can get it, and at least here we can warn people that, actually, "what you are about to read could be BS," which is unfortunately not the case for the WWW generally : ) --Semitransgenic (talk) 09:54, 15 June 2011 (UTC)

In a world bloating with disinformation, the aesthetics of information delivery is secondary to the accuracy of said information, that's just how I see it, too many do not question the details of what they read, and wikipedia is increasingly a first stop, tags can serve to encourage critical awareness. --Semitransgenic (talk) 20:31, 15 June 2011 (UTC)

Hi! I'm the Wikipedian In Residence at the Smithsonian Archives of American Art and I'm recruiting Wikipedians who are passionate about art to participate in furthering art coverage on Wikipedia. I am planning contests and projects that will allow you access, no matter where you live, to the world's largest collection of archives related to American art. Please sign up to participate here, and I look forward to working with you! SarahStierch (talk) 00:14, 13 June 2011 (UTC)

subuser template?

not sure what that is, do you mean the creation of user sub pages?

No, unfortunately, as you can see, bling is not my thing ; ) --Semitransgenic (talk) 21:17, 15 June 2011 (UTC)

not that i'm aware of, I don't use them. Unless, the case is that you link to them from your user page using a banner, which I have seen guys do for various things, then there is something else required that I haven't ever used, haven't sat down to figure that one out yet. I saw one recently where a banner pops up when you go to edit user talk, I thought that was pretty cool, but didn't stop to work it out. --Semitransgenic (talk) 21:33, 15 June 2011 (UTC)

sorry, no clue, best sniff around, when you see things that you like the look of, click edit, borrow the code, and modify it as required. --Semitransgenic (talk) 21:55, 15 June 2011 (UTC)

Research survey invitation

Greetings Lighthead-

My name is Randall Livingstone, and I am a doctoral student at the University of Oregon, studying digital media and online community. I am posting to invite you to participate in my research study exploring the work of Wikipedia editors who are members of WikiProject: Countering Systemic Bias. The online survey should take 20 to 25 minutes to complete and can be found here:

https://oregon.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_cSHzuwaQovaZ6ss

Your responses will help online communication researchers like me to better understand the collaborations, challenges, and purposeful work of Wikipedia editors like you. In addition, at the end of the survey you will have the opportunity to express your interest in a follow-up online interview with the researcher.

This research project has been reviewed and approved by the Wikimedia Research Committee as well as the Office for Protection of Human Subjects at the University of Oregon. For a detailed description of the project, please visit its Meta page. This survey is voluntary, and your confidentiality will be protected. You will have the choice of using your Wikipedia User Name during the research or creating a unique pseudonym. You may skip any question you choose, and you may withdraw at any time. By completing the survey, you are providing consent to participate in the research.

If you have any questions about the study, please contact me via my Talk Page (UOJComm) or via email. My faculty advisor is Dr. Ryan Light. If you have any questions regarding your rights as a research participant, please contact the Office for Protection of Human Subjects at the University of Oregon.

Thank you very much.

Sincerely,

Randall Livingstone School of Journalism & Communication University of Oregon UOJComm (talk) 04:11, 22 June 2011 (UTC)

FYI

Hello. Regarding the recent revert you made: you may already know about them, but you might find Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace useful. After a revert, these can be placed on the user's talk page to let them know you considered their edit was inappropriate, and also direct new users towards the sandbox. They can also be used to give a stern warning to a vandal when they've been previously warned. Thank you. -FASTILY (TALK) 21:54, 22 June 2011 (UTC)

AIV

Thank you for making a report on Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. Reporting and removing vandalism is vital to the functioning of Wikipedia and all users are encouraged to revert, warn, and report vandalism. However, it appears that the editor you reported may not have engaged in vandalism, or the user was not sufficiently or appropriately warned. Please note there is a difference between vandalism and unhelpful or misguided edits made in good faith. If the user continues to vandalise after a recent final warning, please re-report it. Thank you. GorillaWarfare (talk) 02:36, 24 June 2011 (UTC)

Your recent edit to the page Acid jazz appears to have added incorrect information and has been reverted or removed. All information in this encyclopedia must be verifiable in a reliable, published source. If you believe the information that you added was correct, please cite the references or sources or before making the changes, discuss them on the article's talk page. Please use the sandbox for any tests that you wish to make. Do take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia. Thank you. Do not flag good faith edits as vandalism. This will not be addressed with you again. Srobak (talk) 05:49, 24 June 2011 (UTC)

Why do you keep reverting my changes on the 311 article? That page has the wrong information. Dammit! and Unity are not studio albums, they're independent releases and they were recorded independently but they're still not studio albums, so therefore they have released 9 studio albums not 11.
