Self-Introduction[edit]

I'm Katherine Panciera, a Ph.D. student at the University of Minnesota. I work with the GroupLens research group which studies the social web, including Wikipedia, and recommender systems.

I am interested in finding ways to engage content experts on Wikipedia. Previously, Wikipedia started the Adopt-a-User program to allow new users to get to know seasoned Wikipedia editors. We are interested in learning more about how this type of relationship works. I am also interested in learning more about how new users adapt to Wikipedia and how a surge in users changes the dynamics in community contributed content sites.

We've done other work related to Wikipedia. Most recently "Creating, Destroying, and Restoring Value in Wikipedia" was published at GROUP 2007. You can find a copy of that paper here. In the past, other group members such as User:ForteTuba have conducted other wiki-based research.
