Hello! Although I have already contributed on quite a number of topics, I often prefer to focus on one article and/or a few closely related articles at a time, making significant contributions over many weeks and months before moving on to another topic. My activity pattern and frequency are unpredictable, although I generally tend to be more active on weekends than in the middle of the week.

There are a few things in Wikipedia that are not being done enough, and I hope to make a just a tiny difference in those areas. I try to convert random lists within articles into useful, readable prose, in cases where it is appropriate. I also believe in the importance of well-referenced texts, and will often insert many citations at once into articles that I have been editting extensively. Lastly, I try to tone down peacock phrases (especially academic boosterism) with the use of factual summaries.

Toronto teaching hospitals

I don't like what you did with the teaching hospitals template, though I do like the formating/colour change.

The reason I had all the affiliated health centres is:

1. They are listed here on U of T's PGME web site.
2. Institutions that are not fully affiliated see all manner of U of T learners, e.g. North York General Hospital always has medical students -- as it is a site students do core rotations and, AFAIK, ditto for St. Joe's and the East General.
3. The division between fully affiliated and affiliated it is relatively minor (see above) in most cases. There was division on the template and the template "Toronto teaching hospitals" was titled to reflect that.

IMHO, the template should be changed back; hospitals that are not fully affiliated are still teaching hospitals and listed as such by U of T. Nephron  T|C 12:27, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

Hello Nephron, and thanks for your comment. I have already read the PGME web page you linked to, but I also used the university's research hosptial partners page. Although it is technically right that any hospital receiving at least one medical student can be called a teaching hospital, most people's idea of a teaching hospital is one that not only trains future doctors, but also has a strong emphasis on research and experimental techniques. Physicians in the ten fully affiliated hospitals are also members of the university's medical faculty. The previous template was almost turning into just a list of GTA hospitals, since it's not really unusual or special for medical schools to place students in partly-affiliated community hospitals throughout their region; Queen's University for example has three teaching hospitals but places students all throughout eastern Ontario, and most other schools do the same. Aside from receiving medical students, those hospitals are essentially regular community hospitals. So that the list is reasonably short and exclusive, it's better to stick with the ten hospitals that are actually considered fully affiliated by the university, and are thus involved with all major aspects of the faculty's activities. Michael Spence

He went to University of Toronto School. Isn't that a part of the University of Toronto? - Wisdompower

Actually, University of Toronto Schools is a secondary school and not a university. Michael Spence received his university education at Princeton, Oxford and Harvard. This is verified in the biography. Jphillips23 (talk) 02:58, 12 November 2009 (UTC)

Wisdompower, Spence did not attend the university, hence he is not an alumnus of the university and is not listed in List of University of Toronto people. That list is for those who received university education at the university. For the same reason, alumni of the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools are not the same as alumni listed in List of University of Chicago people. I understand that he is not an alumnus of the university and that the list is for those who received university education from the university. But, when we are talking about Nobel leaureates, we are typically referring to "affiliations" with Nobel Prize winners. In that respect, I think we should put him up just on Nobel leaureates section as a graduate of the secondary school. University affiliations, including Nobel prize affiliations, refer to those who attended the university or were members of faculty. Nobel affiliations are no different. It seems you really want to increase the Nobel winners count, but you don't have to do that at all. The University of Toronto already has plenty of Nobel laureates without needing to bend the rules. How the University of Toronto is called

Read what I've written for Freshacconci. I gave him/her a few 'proofs'. You must know pretty well how the university is called domestically in Canada. But I know how it's often called outside Canada. (I sure do, because I'm not from Canada) To me, how you don't recognize other people's contributions to the entry is 'ridiculous'. The University of Toronto itself, in a sense, doesn't know how it's viewed globally at all. (I think this partly contributes to, McGill being seen as the nation's top university, despite the fact that the University of Toronto has produced more influential figures and has been ranked as the top on virtually every ranking that exists.) By the way, my answer to the Varsiy article, "Does the University need to market itself?" is "yes, it sure does. I mean, have you read what I've written on her "talk page"? This case is more like the case with the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge. Universities of Michigan and Chicago have never been called "Michigan University" or "Chicago University". But Oxford and Cambridge are informally called "Oxford University" and etc. I gave him/her a few proofs didn't I? I have read some wikipedia articles of politicians who studied at Toronto and on some occasions, I did come accross "Toronto University", plus I have seen a painting which had "Toronto University" on it. I'm an international student and I've seen people referring the university that way. I can't change them. Think about it. Why would I want to waste my time doing this? University of Toronto's blue logo

Hey there, I was wondering if you could revert U of T's blue (current) logo to the coloured one. The coloured logo is actually the first and original shield that is engraved and coloured painted in the Great Hall at Hart House. By logo, I assume you are referring to the coat of arms. The newer monochrome version was uploaded recently by User:Dancojocari, not myself, although afterward I fixed the problems with transparency and image centering. Personally, I don't have a strong preference for one version over another.

Since you are a registered user, you can easily perform the revert yourself at the image file's page: File:Utoronto coa.svg. But perhaps it might be a better idea to start a new discussion about this on Talk:University of Toronto and see what other editors think. Jphillips23 (talk) 02:04, 17 February 2011 (UTC)

Hello, I saw the UTSC navbox you've put into UTSC. It certainly needs more developing, which I'll get to later as I expand on the UTSC article and begin articles relating to it. University Health Network

Hi, I guess I'm the one having a little edit war with you re: University Health Network. UHN is no different than any other U of T teaching hospital, other than it has multiple sites (heck, Toronto Rehab had multiple sites before its acquisition by UHN); there should be no reason why its page (as opposed to the other hospitals) should include the U of T template (or why the U of T template should include UHN). For the record, the above should be disregarded as retaliation by another sockpuppet of User:UrbanNerd, who has a long history of being blocked and was banned indefinitely last week. I noticed that you have contributed a lot to University of Toronto article and I thought it would be a good to reach out. Not sure if you have ever come across the University Canada West article. I’ve been in discussions with other editors, but we feel that we need someone with a little bit more experience in education-related pieces to help us improve the article.

I have a professional connection to the subject, but I am totally willing to work with the community to improve the overall quality of the page. There are only of couple of editors actively contributing to the page, so the article as a whole would benefit from different point of views.
