AFD Organizer is a application that runs on Microsoft Windows, and was developed for the English Wikipedia providing several tools to participate in discussions, allowing you to save time by making it possible to debate more efficiently.

Overview[edit]

AFD Organizer provides you with a large list of the most recent AFD discussions, and allows you to open any discussion you like. After opening a discussion, several other pages will also be opened, such as the article in discussions, its revision history and a Google search. This allows you to immediately start researching whether an article should be kept or not.

It's also possible to quickly look up a deletion policy, such as WP:NOT or WP:V. Furthermore, after you're done researching all you have to do is select your recommendation (i.e. Delete or Keep), write out your reason, and click on the Send button, and everything will be done for you. You won't have to do anymore manual formatting or editing.

To make your message even more informative you can automatically insert links to several different WP policies (in case you've forgotten them or want to use the formal title) or insert links to various search (e.g. link to a Google and Google News search, or even all five main search engines).

After you're done with one discussion, you can easily go to the next discussion and the process starts all over again.

Feature list[edit]

  • Automatically retrieves a list of the most recent AFD discussions
  • Uses your watchlist to mark AFD discussions as done
  • Quickly load all necessary pages when opening an AFD
  • An inbuilt list of all the WP policies related to AFD discussions
  • Inbuilt search functionality on article names
  • Easily insert search engine links
  • Menu shortcuts

System Requirements[edit]

  • Operating System: Microsoft Windows 98 or Later
  • Internet Browser: Internet Explorer 4.0 or later must be installed
  • JavaScript enabled
  • Wikipedia Skin: Monobook

Please note: no official testing has been done yet, except on my own system, so I know for a fact that it works on Windows XP SP2 with IE6. There's no reason why it shouldn't work with a lower version of Windows or Internet Explorer, but bugs are always possible.

Download[edit]

(1) Register[edit]

At the moment you do NOT need to register to use AFD Organizer, however this may change in the future depending on community feedback and any abuse.

(2) Download[edit]

Use the link below to download the latest version (0.5 beta) from Jayden54.com:

Click here to download the latest version (0.5 beta) (The link is broken as on March 31, 2010.)

If you can't download the file please wait a few minutes and try again later.

(3) Extract and install[edit]

Extract the ZIP file you downloaded into a single directory, and run the setup.exe file. This will install the application and all the necessary system files.

(4) Run[edit]

After installing the application, go to the directory where you installed it (or use the start menu) and run the application. The main window should appear and a small loading window which loads all the necessary data, and checks if you're logged in. AFD Organizer uses Internet Explorer to browse pages, so if you're already logged into your account in IE, you should also be logged in with AFD Organizer. If you're not logged in yet, you will be prompted to login. After that a list of recent discussions and your watchlist will be loaded. You should then be able to use the application.

(5) Start discussing![edit]

Start participating in AFD discussions by clicking on an AFD in the list (on the left-hand side) and the discussion should be loaded. Refer to the manual to learn more about using AFD organizer.
